I lived in Brighton for 2 years doing postgrad studies. I know what you mean. When I was there there was no week that passed without being at the seafront.
I was a boy in the U.S. in the '60s, when Bossa Nova and related jazz became popular. This kind of music was used extensively in the spy movies and TV that were all the rage then, too. The clever, suave, and handsome hero spy would be in some lounge, playing cat-and-mouse with the enemy spy, or his henchmen or his assassin; and the music in the liunge would be the cool, hip, sophisticated sounds of Bossa Nova and smooth, syncopated jazz. Or he would be exchanging reparteé in the luxury flat of the enigmatic but beautiful woman who was somehow mixed up in all the intrigue, naturally as a prelude to lovemaking, and again, the romantic, seductive Bossa Nova and jazz would be in the background, gently moving events forward. Halfway between childhood and manhood, with the entire world beginning to open up before me, I adopted this music. Maybe it couldn't magically make my dreams reality, but it made me feel that it might be possible. And I can revisit those days at any time. All I have to do is play the music.

I was a boy in the U.S. in the '60s, when Bossa Nova and related jazz became popular. This kind of music was used extensively in the spy movies and TV that were all the rage then, too. The clever, suave, and handsome hero spy would be in some lounge, playing cat-and-mouse with the enemy spy, or his henchmen or his assassin; and the music in the liunge would be the cool, hip, sophisticated sounds of Bossa Nova and smooth, syncopated jazz. Or he would be exchanging reparteé in the luxury flat of the enigmatic but beautiful woman who was somehow mixed up in all the intrigue, naturally as a prelude to lovemaking, and again, the romantic, seductive Bossa Nova and jazz would be in the background, gently moving events forward.
Halfway between childhood and manhood, with the entire world beginning to open up before me, I adopted this music. Maybe it couldn't magically make my dreams reality, but it made me feel that it might be possible. And I can revisit those days at any time. All I have to do is play the music.
