    If you’re looking for a way to edit faster in Final Cut Pro, then you may want to think about using proxy media or optimized media. In a nutshell, these are different formats (or codecs) that FCPX creates that help you speed up your workflow while editing. While figuring out optimized media vs proxy media, you'd want to know that they both have pros and cons which are covered in this tutorial video.

    Thanks for this! So if you have optimized media, when you select “original/optimized” which does Final Cut Pro use for exporting? The optimized or the original? You had mentioned optimized was slightly lower quality.
    Second question is, when you are done editing in Proxy, and ready to optimize for finishing touches, how do you create optimized media for the whole project? Thanks so much! Great tutorial.

      @epidemicmediaco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tim. To answer your questions…
      1. It depends on what you’re using the project for. If it’s for a client, I export the master file (but the file size is huge). But for anything else, like uploading to TH-cam, I’d export either in 4K or 1080p.
      2. To create optimized media for your whole project…select your clips and then select “transcode media” and you will see the option for optimized media will pop up.
      Hope this helps.

    Which do you use more between optimized media & proxy media?...or is it a mix of both?

    What is render files, and is deleting them will affect my project?

    • @epidemicmediaco
      @epidemicmediaco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FCPX automatically creates render files and they allow you to have a smoother playback while working on your project. Deleting them will most likely cause jumpy playback when you preview your video, but won’t affect your exported file. Hope this helps.

    Hi! What if you don't tick the optimize and proxy boxes?

    • @epidemicmediaco
      @epidemicmediaco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! So if you don’t tick any of the boxes, you’ll basically just be editing in FCPX with your original video. So depending on how large that project is, your computer might perform a lot slower.

    • @epidemicmediaco

      Try deleting the render files from older/completed projects. That usually helps free up space.
