    What is one piece of advice to a lead pastor to reaching the next generation? Steven Lawson nailed it. Preach the Word of God... and I would add, with confidence and unashamedly. I'm early in my walk and the Lord led me to a Gospel preaching and teaching Church which is small, strong and growing. A few other things I appreciate from our Church is that we go through entire books. When I first started attending, we were half way through Hebrews. Our Pastor wrapped up that book in 40 weeks. Then we covered Habakkuk, line by line. Now, in my second year attending my Church, we're in the Book of John, Chapter 19. In addition to the expository approach, which I love, we also open and close with worship in hymns and songs that are biblically sound, with singers and musicians who know and understand that our goal in our roles is not to put on a show to entertain, but to help our fellowship glorify our Lord. I'm in the Worship group and it is so glorious to look upon our fellowship, energized and enthusiastically glorifying the Lord right along with us. And last but not least, we're strong on prayer to our Lord and one another.

    What an era to hear a panel of Presbyterians talk about how they would rebaptize someone coming out of Catholicism. I see the divide between Presbyterians, Baptists, and non-denominationalists slowing disintegrating. I'm so grateful for these guys.

      When Calvin was asked if it was necessary to be rebaptised. He asked 3 questions: was water used? was the intent to baptise? Was it done in the name of the Father, Son. Holly Spirit? If you answer "no" you need to be baptised, not rebaptised.
      For Christians to not baptise their children is to declare them outside the covenant. Just as it was a for a jew not to circumcise their son.
      Baptist start in the wrong place in the New Testment they need to start with 1 Corinthians 10: and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

    • @Saratogan
      @Saratogan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThomasCranmer1959 , there is a great divide. Those that are "open brethren" are often, but not exclusively, Arminian. Those of us along the line that some call "exclusive" are not. Here is an excerpt from something that John Darby wrote which shows clearly where he stood on the issue. It is Victorian English so bear with it when you read. "This fresh breaking out of the doctrine of free-will helps on the doctrine of the natural man's pretension not to be entirely lost, for that is really what it amounts to. All men who have never been deeply convinced of sin, all persons with whom this conviction is based upon gross and outward sins, believe more or less in free-will. You know that it is the dogma of the Wesleyans, of all reasoners, of all philosophers. But this idea completely changes all the idea of Christianity and entirely perverts it." I stand with Mr. Darby. 😊

      @@ThomasCranmer1959, certainly not. If you google Plymouth Brethren you will find our history both the good and bad. There is no church merging. Christians do join us from other denominations but only person by person. There is no hierarchy to join. There is nothing above the local assembly body except the Lord Himself Who is Head over all blessed forever.

    Hodge was opposed by Thornwell. Thornwell rightly opposed Roman Catholic baptism and wrote a lengthy book against its sacerdotal basis, including the fact that papists mix holy oil with the consecrated water. Hodge was obviously wrong. 26:58 minute mark.

    God would that all man be saved, But that having been said, God does not sit around "desiring to be the God of my children" . He either is or is not their father. He either has or has not elected them. God is not bound to a covenant with my children simply because he has saved me.

    • @colbyharris7229
      @colbyharris7229 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I have heard from a Presbyterian friend that the reason we don’t see infant baptism is because it is the first generation. For example if missionaries went to an unreached place the first generation both Presbyterians and Baptists would look the same it wouldn’t be until children were born from the believers you see a difference.
      But I would agree with you, that baptism is not for infants but for professing believers. My belief for that rests on the new covenant, I do not believe the new covenant is a covenant of the flesh like the old ones were where the covenant is made with everyone in the church I believe the new covenant is a covenant of the spirit a greater covenant where the covenant is made only with those who have been born again which faith is the sign of. (Jer 31:31-34, Ezek 36:26-27)

      ....I too only believe in a Believers Baptism. But, that said, l've been searching for a great Reformed Church. The best l've found is an OPC... Orthodox Presbyterian Church...and Reformers are mixed on Baby Baptism. This church believes in Covenant Theology. They believe babies are brought into the Covenant by Baptism...but saved by the New Birth. The Pastor told me they go off of Acts 16:31 "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you and your household shall be saved." I am still confused by it. This weekend starts 3 classes after church for 3 weeks, explaining everything...and also preparatory if you are interested in joining the church. I am open to understanding because it's wonderful to finally find a church that doesn't hate the Reformed doctrines of Grace. Plus Creeds and Confessions...Canons of Dort and they sing Hymns and Psalms, not secular worldly music. They are there to worship God, not entertain. Them baptizing babies is not a deal breaker because it's not for Salvation. Hope this helps....📖🌷

    Know the difference between the tradition of men and Sola Scripture. Show me a single verse in scripture where one man can elevate and proclaim another man is how a “pastor”. Some people shout Titus 1:5, Titus 1:5. But please read the verse. God instructed Titus to appoint elders in Crete. Nowhere in the verse are there instructions to the newly appointed elders in a local congregation to continue appointing others in their congregation. Let us not add to God’s Word. Stay with Sola Scripture and reject the traditions of men.

    • @MrAntiOrdinary
      @MrAntiOrdinary ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1Whipperin I’m glad you recognize the connection between the word shepherd and the word pastor. If you can see that much, why don’t you recognize the gifts in Ephesians 4 as offices within the Body of Christ? And if you’re honestly asking where the title of pastor comes from, I’d say Ephesians 4. But it’s also the simple fact that the language that early church fathers spoke and wrote in has an impact historically. The word “pastor” has a strong root in Latin, not necessarily “Rome”.

    • @ralphdavis162
      @ralphdavis162 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrAntiOrdinary Thank you for your question. Regarding 1 Pet. 5 :1-4 the word shepherd is used once in v4 and it is referring to Christ. He is our only shepherd, not men. Regarding your second question, please watch the teaching series I recommended. It talks about church history and explains where and when titles such as reverend originated, starting as soon as the second century.
      Lastly you mentioned Matthew 23:8-12, these are verses people us to prove the false church system we have today.

    • @MrAntiOrdinary
      @MrAntiOrdinary ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1Whipperin Respectfully, that’s a strange question from where I sit. I believe that the Apostles and Prophets have already preceded us, that is, we meet them in the Scriptures and generally, it is through them that we receive the same as they (the prophets and apostles) were carried along by the Holy Spirit. I think most churches will recognize persons who may never preach in a pulpit but will teach because they are gifted to be teachers in a seminar or a Sunday school or other Christian education arm of the the church. But some traditions hold the office of “pastor” as “teaching elder” so, sometimes people fill two offices. An evangelist is not hard to envision and I know some denominations (primarily Baptist context) where an evangelist is someone who is not a pastor, but does preach the gospel, hence, an evangelist. In my experience, apart from Apostle and Prophet, I think most churches see their pastor as shepherd, but also evangelist, and as teacher. In some churches, those three roles are more clearly delineated. It’s not complicated at all.

      @Charlie J. Ray when you find a contradiction then show it.

    • @ThomasCranmer1959
      @ThomasCranmer1959 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Hear God's Word The contradiction is when Thomas said that the number of the elect and the number of the reprobates cannot be increased or decreased and then immediately after that he said that God changes when He enters space and time and now God suddenly desires to save the reprobate knowing that He has already decreed their destruction prior to their doing good or evil.
      If God has predestined everything it is IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD TO DESIRE SOMETHING THAT HE HAS NOT ETERNALLY DECREED. God has only ONE eternal, immutable, and decretal will. The moral law of God is PRECEPTIVE AND PRESCRIPTIVE and not necessarily how things will go in providence.

    • @ThomasCranmer1959
      @ThomasCranmer1959 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HearGodsWord My comment above clearly expressed the "apparent" contradiction. A desire is a volition. God never desires anything other than what He wills. His predestination of everything is immutable. There are no possibilities in God's eternal mind. He knows the exact future because He has predetermined all of it.
