Sadly it has come to our attention that scam CDL training companies have downloaded our video and are actually selling it to people and passing it along as their own. Jeff and Apex CDL Institute put this video on TH-cam for a reason, to make it available to anyone seeking to improve their safety and become a Commercial Driver. We want it to be free to all people, this was never about money. If you come across anyone selling this video to you for money, please contact Apex CDL Institute (913) 585-1120 and our attorneys will correct that problem. To be clear, we are not talking about legitimate schools that are actually training students. They are more than welcome to use our material as much as they want. We are specifically talking about scam schools that sell our material as if it was their own. If you are reading this and trying to get your CDL YOU CAN DO IT! I always thought I could never drive a manual semi/ or get my license but thanks to this video I passed my class A! Just put your mind to it and study!! Feel free to reply with questions but I will say thanks to this man I passed ! THANK YOU SIR !🙏🏽
Going to do my permit test next week then headed off to school going to Wil Trans in Springfield, Ms I just watched this for the first time and I’m gonna be watching it over and over for the next week and a half until my pre trip test I’ve already learned a lot from one time so I got a great feeling I’m gonna Ace it on the first try
@@CarlosGarcia-jl9dq good luck just study for the permit use your skip button if you need to and take your time for the drive test just don’t run a yellow light! They failed me right away for that one
Im 56 years old. I can only attend class 2x per week for 9 weeks. I got my clp permit with air brakes, combination vehicle, and general knowledge. i passed my DOT physical. The first week of school is getting the permit. Question: Do you thing i can pass the CDL exam going to school two times per week from 7am to 3:30pm for eight weeks. i want to attend 160 drive academy. im paying out of pocket.
You got to know what CDL stands for along with your ABC's CDL = Cracked Damaged or Loose (all metal parts) ABC = Abrasion Bumps or Cuts (all rubber and electrical parts) // I probably watched this video 10 times and aced my pre-trip inspection. I got my CDL 5 months ago. Just wanted to share CDL and ABC Good luck everyone!
I watched this video dozens of times before I even started my CDL school. My instructor was blown away when on day 1 of class I absolutely NAILED the entire pre-trip from front to back. Thank you for this video.
I just wanna take a lil time out to thank you. I passed everything today on my 1st try. Today I became a Valid CDL holder thanks to this Video. You’re a blessing to us trying to complete the inspection....🙂
Master of code 101 I just did mines like it was supposed to be done in ky. They didn’t care if the lights was working or not. He just wanted to make sure I knew what I was talking bout. I did in cab coupling an the trailer I got lucky I guess.
Watched this video over 7 years ago. Me and my Lil sis passed the test. I've been driving ever since. I lost my baby sis 2 years ago, (covid)she was a badass driver. but I'm still out here. I share this video with friends and my cousin. They are all driving now
Passed my CDL test today! Idk how many times I watched this video, but it was definitely my main way of studying! Got a perfect score on the pretrip section and this video is 100% the reason why!
@Jason Stephenson that’s why you have to listen to it over and over.. I was riding in my car listening to it… it’s all repetitious… so once you got it… you got it and you will breeze right thru it
This is the most in depth and detailed pre trip you will find. He doesn't just explain what to say so you pass, he teaches you the general functions of the part and how to know if it is actually safe for the road. I passed my test yesterday, thanks Apex!
Let me start by saying I really don't comment on these things but I have to say Jeff of Apex really did an amazing job performing and explaining how to properly perform a Class A pre-trip inspection and he probably took time out of his busy schedule to give this knowledge for free to so many out there so appreciate this video and his generosity ..Good job Jeff
Just wanted to say after failing the pre-trip twice, my examiner recommended I watch this video. I watched it 20 or 30 times, went back and tried again and passed! I now have my Class A CDL. Thank you Apex!!
Im not going to a CDL school, I’m needing my CDL-A to operate huge mining equipment. So I found out you can study and take the CLP, then two weeks later take the CDL preinspection on your own. I operated heavy trucks in the Military, and now all that experience and knowledge is coming back decades later.
It’s good to see that a lot of y’all didn’t have an issue with the order of which you started your inspection. I guess it all depends on the school but I preferred watching this video as it’s more informative and detailed compared to others ( my school lol ) so I have been watching it until I got told I have to watch the one my school has and do it their way otherwise I’ll fail….BS This is an awesome video!!! Good luck to everyone that hasn’t passed it yet and congrats to the ones who passed it already! Stay safe.
I agree with Chris! I watched this video about 15 times over the last month and aced my pre-trip. I got my Class A CDL today! Thanks Jeff and Apex CDL Institute!!
Jay, Thanks man! Rafael Degannes, From what I have seen, most trucking companies want 2 years of OTR experience. There are a few out there that don't have that requirement.
It's the other way around J....No experience,no job..They dont want to take a chance of you killing yourself or others, and not to mention fukin up the equipment
My husband watched this video to study for his pre-trip. The evaluator told him in 21 years he has never had anyone get all items on the checklist, until him. This is a great video, and if you want to pass the first time I would suggest watching it! We live in Kentucky.
I just got my CDL class A license. It was 5 months long. Worth it! Passed all my tests on the 1t attempt. Make sure to practice all your maneuvers as many times as you can as well as go out on the road and practice as often as possible. Be personal with it and make the Instructer aware that you are paying for this and you need the training. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Some of them are there just for the check. It’s your responsibility to learn. Good luck to al.
I learned so much from watching and studying my in cab and pre trip videos as well as all of the maneuvers. Trust me, it will pay off. I could have finish before the 5 months but I wanted to make sure I was ready since I had a really good job already. Graduation was a blast. Make sure you walk across the stage so you can feel the joy and celebrate with friends, classmates and family. I saw so many people fail.
I work for a city nd they help me get my Cdl but they got me practicing in a stick truck something i never drove before, never be behind a stick vehicle nd it’s really getting to me now. I have a feeling I’m going to lose my job nd I love my job. I have to pass my driving part to stay here. If you got anything I can use it
I watched this a million times. I was so nervous going through my class A and thought it was such a feat. Take it one at a time and remember we are all human. The examiner i had was tough but very generous. I was so nervous but looking back it was all good. In my situation the examiner knew I knew the truck. Stay positive and good day.
Jeff's tutorial is the most valuable 61 minutes you will ever spend before doing your pre-trip inspection for CDL. He is showing us how to relax and focus for the purpose of demonstrating professional familiarity with the subject matter. We don't have to be rocket~scientists. We just need to be safe. Jeff shows us here how and what to look for, how to be safe, professional drivers.
Anyone know how can open the hood with my small, frail body? Having difficulties. Eating only increases my small size lol don't want to get a round big stomach.
I’m 22 years old and I just got my class A cdl . I watched this video a couple times to help me out and I just wanna say thank you so much as I passed on my first try . Very detailed and great explanation . This video was from 7 years ago and it’s still going strong really amazing . 10/10
Thank you chris!whatched your video several times and aced it on the test, awsome brother! So how do you get a job? Everyone seems to at least want 3 moths otr experience to land a job
Years later this video is still helping people like me chase a dream! Watched the video religiously before my test and passed with flying colors 💪 catch y'all out on the road. thank you for all you guys do
Thanks Jeff you and Apex just helped me receive my CDL A today. I watched your video at least 25 to 30 times. Now here I am 1 hour after receiving my license and thanking you. Thanks
I must say that I watched your video about 50 times and including the older guy from j tech before getting into CDL school. I was so good that the instructor was mad because the students were asking me everything and said the last person who did the same thing failed! But guess what, I was at the top of my class of 15 students and passed all 3 parts like a champ last month to the point the person that was testing me was amazed at how good I was...thanks man!!!
Oh wow. I just started school a couple days ago and I too must have watch this video over 20 times and I feel like im better at it than my barely speaking English instructor. What company hired you
I know how you feel, I literally had to submit 3 corrections to an erroneous answer key provided to me at my driving school lol. I was probably the first and only person in years to spot the errors.
Still sitting at the test site to tell you all that I have passed and the examiner was blown away by how thorough I was and it’s all thanks to this. Make sure you say posted bridge heights, weight limits, and they will do a simulation emergency stop. Know when and where to put out your triangles. Good luck!
just passed my CDL test and license today. I was in First CDL of northern Virginia school.Every night and morning I would watch this video and the instructor said my pre trip was the best one he has seen in a long time. You was a big part of my success, and gave me a major edge in the process, thank you
I got my license three years ago in georgia at road masters trucking school, and this what I studied not the book from the school, this is what I studied 100%,and my score was the highest they ever see in 6 months, the dmv guy was very amazed by my score, he even ask me what did I study, and I answer him that this the video I have been watching, so anybody trying to pass the pre trip inspection test ,this is VERY IMPORTANT AND HELPFUL video
I watched this video a few times before my pretrip exam. I scored a 99. The evaluator was very impressed. Great instructional video. It goes above and beyond the minimum requirements.
If you are trying to get your CDL this is the video to watch. Very in depth and covers everything you need to know! I watched this multiple times before my test and the examiner said I nailed the pre trip part of it. Best video out there
Excellent job Jeff, I was a police officer for 30 years, 10 of those years I spent supervising the commercial vehicle , accident investigation bureau of our police dept. If every driver spent the time to do the pre-trip inspection like you did they would be far less collisions and out of service vehicles. Keep up the good work, you are a professional. Sergeant Ed Lepage, Ret.
Husband watched this video and passed CDL-A with Air Brakes - IL test. He said video was spot on and he would not have been as well prepared without the aid of this video. Method that the instructor uses to 'walk down' systems is logical, systematic and easy to follow. A huge thank you and shout out to Jeff and the APEX CDL Institute!!
It is not cracked, damaged, bent, broken, loose, it isn't leaking, there are no abrasions, bumps, cuts, and it's in good condition. It's free from any illegal welds. It's properly mounted and secured. Looseness is indicated by shiny metal metal shavings.
This video was extremely valuable to me. I used this rather than the videos from the school I went to. Just so happens out of 4 of us taking the road test that day from the same school, I was the only one to pass. The examiner later told me the biggest problem people have when they take the test is they’re not prepared…
As a seasoned CDL driver, I would advise all students to do a thorough and COMPLETE pretrip even if your instructor or examiner say its ok not too before you take a truck out on the public highways. In the event of a accident, incident or road inspection, you as a driver, even with just a permit, are responsible for a full inspection to pass the truck is safe to put out on the road. No examiner or driving instructor is going to take the blame if you didnt inspect the truck fully when it legally comes down to it. I have gone to job interviews where on the road test they tell me say the registration is ok and or this and that is good and I just say, that is good but I am going to see it with my own two eyes, as its your responsibility as a CDL driver to know the truck is safe and legal to do so. So remember newbies, do a full pretrip before every trip, have no fear in declining to drive a truck that is unsafe or has incomplete paper work (insurance, ifta, registration truck and trailer), it is your responsibility that you sign with to the DOT that you will complete for the safety of you and the other motorist on the road. Any time you are behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle, you and you alone are responsible that the pretrip has been fully accomplished. Stay safe my fellow drivers, see you on the road!
Joel Macareno If it was too long then I’m pretty sure we won’t be seeing you waste your time on some silly pretrip bc that takes even more time. The author of this original post has a very good point.
Kick ass information! Thank you! Also check that bill of lading or whatever it's called that specifies what you're carrying. Hauling goods for Walmart? How many car batteries can you haul before your state requires you to be HazMat endorsed? And my instructors told us to always weigh the wagon BEFORE you get to a port of entry
The guy in the video said to check everything if you’re going on the road but there’s a reason why you only do half of it during the test. They just want to know that you know what you’re looking for and not wasting their time if you do everything twice...
I just got my CDL in Connecticut. Whilst it’s probably not advisable I watched this video like ten times and then did my first ever pre-trip on the actual CDL test itself. The tester told me I did an awesome job. This video works.
This was fantastic!! The first thing I looked at was how long this video was and thought "ahh hell". I quickly realized the length of the video was directly related to the value of its content. The steps laid out with the explanations provided were really what every driver, even experienced drivers, could benefit from greatly. It's July 2023 right now and everything reviewed in this video is completely relevant today. There may be minor adjustments, based on your state, that would have you use a modified explanation to give to your exam or test administrator. But having the knowledge of how things are connected, identifying what's what based on how they're connected, and the overall wisdom provided to improve a driver's ability to solve a problem before it becomes a disaster is without question, priceless. Thank you for sharing your teaching skills with the rest of us. Steve
No lie...two guys helped me get my Class A CDL with no restrictions, one of them is this brother...big ya self up mate! And, another TH-cam, a hispanic brother from Florida. Mate thank you from the bottom of my heart
Just wanted to also thank you Jeff for putting together and sharing this video. I just earned my CDL Class A and I can honestly say that it wouldn't have happened without your help. I took written notes on what you said throughout the video and then rehearsed it again and again. On test day, it just flowed naturally and I had confidence in what I was saying. This is the definitive video on the CDL Pre-Trip and Air Brakes exam. Thank you and God bless you, brother.
he gets in the truck and then put it in gear and turns it off so it doesn’t roll then charges the pressure for the brakes (parking brakes) So that he can test the pressure and if there is any leaks. But what I don’t understand is why isn’t the parking brake already on when he gets in the truck and why do you need to put it in first gear to listen for any pressure leaks? Why can’t you just leave it in park re-pressurize it and then turn it off without putting it in first gear……….
So much to remember but I'll watch this many times if I have to so I can get that cdl and leave my crappy job. Update: Just finished the pre trip portion. Second attempt though since I missed the pass quota by 2 points. Depending on if the tractor has it, call out the DEF reservoir next to the fuel tank. As well if the examiner wants you to be specific on the gauges: Engine temperature: 165-185F Oil pressure: 30-75 PSI Voltmeter: 12-14V Transmission temperature: 180-250F Air Pressure in tanks: 100psi recommended
Good point about being specific about the gauges. When Jeff talked about checking the tire with a pressure gauge he said it needs to be at least 100 psi, but for the gauges inside the cab they just needed to be "at the proper operating level". The license examener doesn't know if the person being tested knows what those proper operating levels are unless you mention it specifically.
This man deserves a raise! Ive watched sooooo many pre trip videos of people just rushing thru a pretrip and didnt evem learn much from it. This guy is so thurogh, explains everything in detail. I cannot thank him enough. Best pretrip video out there hands down.
Never thought I'd say something over an hour long was 'straight to the point' but this is exactly that. Bookmarked for future study. Planning to go to school in the coming months. Thank you!
I watched your video all day yesterday and today before I took my test. I passed it all well conditions. thanks, now I'm able to drive a commercial vehicle
Thank you for this video. I've been driving 25 years and I learned some new things and several I'd forgotten or gotten careless about. Think I'll be watching it every so often from now on
OUTSTANDING. Every time I transition between desk jobs or trucking, I ALWAYS come back to this video. Thank you. The only thing they don't tell you is, once you get pulled into a random inspection at a scale house is, your 5th wheel setting BETTER be on point, because it can be the difference between a pass or getting sited.
Am watching it over and over again. The intention here is to know the parts of a truck..once you know the key parts you can inspect any model or make of trucks since you will be able to identify parts like alternator ...gear...Arms...Links...Rods...belts...pumps etc and their location in the compartment. Very important
this video helped me passed my pre-trip inspection on my FIRST try, i recommend eating and sleeping to this video lol, it helps soo much, this man is amazing. if your in trucking school and having trouble with your pre-trip THIS VIDEO HAS ALL THE ANSWERS YOU NEED. thank you for posting this video.
16 years otr and your the first instructor I've seen who actually showed people how to physically check the slack adjuster I rate this a 9 out of 10 although I know it is not needed for their test I think it would be beneficial to the students and new drivers to show them how to adjust their brakes but overall best one yet thank you
would of also liked to see you show new people how to check breaklights and physicaly look at blinkers and headlight but still A1 job side note you didn't mention brake fluid or blinker fluid lol
+stephen driver the problem with that is twofold. first most slack adjusters today are self adjusting and as long as you do a pumpdown the brakes should always be in adjustment. secondly most drivers today would most likely crank them down and cause a fire
He doesn't show that, probably because all vehicles as of 199? have automatic adjusters. No company you work for will have manually adjusted brakes on them. If you work for one, get a new job, the equipment is prehistoric, though I like the manually adjusted ones better.
I just passed my cdl a test in New York State 2 days ago !!! I passed mainly cuz of this video ! Every time got home from work I would be on my rowing machine listening over and over and over . It would be in the background as I was studying my cdl book . As I was washing the dishes I would be listening to it ... over and over and over !!! I passed my first time !!! Thank you for all your effort you made into putting this video together . :)
U want to pass your pre-trip WATCH THIS VIDEO!!! He is knowledgeable and explains the truck better than my instructors in my school. I pass my pre trip yesterday thanks to this man and his video. This the real deal people watch this video and study your sheets u will pass GURANTEED!!!
Thanks so much I used your techniques on my pre trip test...finished parking test and now starting shifting this weekend, watching your video on shifting. Your videos are so informative God bless you Jeff.
I watched this video a lot! I think leaning all the truck parts if a little tougher for us ladies. But I got it and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for such a thorough and detailed video! I would never have passed without it! I'm now the proud owner of a class A . This is something I have wanted since high school back in the 80's. Now I'm on to be a log truck driver along with my husband in north central Arkansas. Thanks again!!! Oh, my CDL tester told me I did a better job than half the guys. I have a case of the big head now! :D Yes, I am very excited. It was a long time coming!
With a baby on the way come September not to mention a wedding in June I knew I had to pass this test ..thanks to this apex driving video I was successfully able to pass the pre trip along with my texas road test on the first try ..congrats to everyone that used this material to pass your CDL
this is by FAR the BEST pre trip video I have seen. You really helped alot. No other experienced driver goes into detail and points out directly what it is were looking at and the surrounding components, its uses, and an up close camera view on each part. Everyone else quickly went over it but thats how you fail the test. Small detail is what you NEED to pass. I don't even have a class A license. I was looking for a Class B video but this helped me more than any other video could. Thanx bro
Just passed my CDL Exam today. This is the primary PreTrip video I’ve watched over these past few months and really made a big difference on the way I approached performing the PreTrip. Great job Jeff. Thank you!
For anyone who is studying for your road test, the best advice I can give you is to study,(which of your watching this you are) and stay calm!!! I had to take my road test twice because I messed up the brake test the first time, I knew everything but got so nervous I froze up and forgot several parts, so just show up to your test prepared, take a deep breath and remember what you studied, you can do it!!!!
Thanks for letting us know about the scam. I have presently finished week 2 of the 4 week school and passed my Texas CDL Permit. We (7 in the Grayson class) are doing our backups, pre-trips, and today we began road driving with our instructure. The way Jeff presented the CDL Exam is exactly the way our instructor is teaching this. Thank you for your support and I am looking foward to getting on the road and driving safely.
I watched you video and it help me passed my test now I have a class a cdl!!! Thank you so much for posting this video, I got a score of 81, thank you 😃
I've been watching this video 3 times a day since last Thursday and this week as well tomorrow will be my first day training in the yard preparing for pre trip test this video has helped me alot and I'm gonna continue to watch it til I pass wish me luck 🤞 Good luck to everyone else that's in the same position as me or even if u Bearly studying for your permit YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!! SI SE PUEDEEE!!!!!!! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 Finally got my CDL!!!!!;!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wow - I am absolutely amazed at how thorough this was! You make it seem so easy! I took 15 pages of notes, and will be sure to practice exactly how you taught it. Loves the methodical approach you had. Will come in very helpful. Well worth the hour watch. Thank you!!
I started CDL training under the modernized pre-trip. However I watched this too so I wouldn’t be missing any knowledge and I included some elements from this video in my modernized pre-trip. My instructor was pretty impressed when I ran through my pre trip before the dmv exam. And I heard he was raving about me to the office and his other classes. I think it’s a great aid on learning all parts and what’s necessary for fully inspecting the truck before I start with a company also. I will have 5 week “finishing” training and will be well versed with full pre-trip. Thanks a lot for your contribution.
Just came to say Thank you for helping me get my CDL! This video was what I was binge watching this for my pretrip inspection and I passed it easily..good teaching
Hello there : first let me start by saying you’re the only gentleman on the TH-cam who speaks clearly, explains everything the right way , as non native English speaker I can tell you that I understood every single vocabulary you said and every single part you pointed out, and I can tell that my eyes are following your hands while my ears listening, I got my CDL back in 2014 , and I didn’t use it , but I get online every now and then to watch the pre trip inspection to keep myself connected, and I am not knowledgeable in the mechanics field but I can say that your way of lecturing is way much advanced taking in consideration that most of CDL students are not native English speaking individuals. , Thank you again.
Great video! Two things I would add though for the brake test right after the "SALE" tests: 1) pressure build up test, (85 to 100 in under 45 seconds for dual air systems and 50 to 90 psi in under 3 minutes for older single air systems), and 2) air pressure governor cut-in and -out test (showing that the pressure increases to about 125psi then stops, then after fanning the brakes a whole bunch to drop the pressure to around 90 psi, the governor will cut-in and pressure will start increasing in-between brake presses.)
I'm in the process of getting my CDL. Not on the yard yet but I like to have extra time to learn as much as I can before I do. This video is very informative. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video and helping us out. I am so nervous, and your video is answering so many questions I had. I will recommend who ever I know applying to watch this video. Thank you.
I passed my CDL road test in Nj on my first attempt today! Examiner didn’t even have me do couplings, and fifth wheel, after mentioning everything on section B inspection! This video is gold!! Thanks 🙏🏼…
for all you ladies and gentlemen of California. The In-cab and brake test in this clip is great and bless this man (jeffrey-steinberg) for making it so clear and understandable but!!! In California there are a few ad-ons A. In your in-cab inspection you need to check the knobs of the trailer and the tractor that they are not broken and or cracked. B. In the brake test, you need to tell and demonstrate to the examiner the cut-in and cut-out points. You should say that the cut in should be no less then 100 psi and the cut out-out should be at 125 psi and no more then 130 psi. C. In California the warning light and buzzer should come on between 75-55 psi and the pop up point is between 20 to 45. And of course you'll need to demonstrate it all. Good luck
I'm in California..i noticed not big schools here, could that be cuz of all these fucking extra laws😂 I can't wait to leave this state & start somewhere else near my school..prob Arizona.
Is there anything that POS state does like the rest of the country? It's literally like a different world over there. They just HAVE to have everything so much more over the top in that liberal ass state.
Passed my CDL test yesterday. This video was so helpful. I highly recommend to anyone trying to get their CDL. Best of luck to everyone and thank you for this video.
Sharing my story like everyone else 3 months ago decided for my wife and kid that i was going to get my class A. Today that happened i got the entire truck and thanks to this video i passed my pre trip exam with a 100 percent. If i can do it anyone can. DREAM BIG
Man my friend told me to come to TH-cam to watch a pre check video.I had no idea it would be this is a nice detailed video.I haven't started CDL class yet but I can't wait and I hope my instructor is a very good like you went over every detail.Nice and calm and very easy to understand.I feel like I'm a step ahead before I start I will watch this several times again before testing thanks again man
I really like his organized and clear style . CDL: cracked, damaged or loose... ABC; abrasion, bumps, cuts. SALE; Static, Active,Leak, Emergency . - GREAT ways to remember these clearly and concisely. Nice work.
This video is the exact reason I passed my CDL test today! You guys do an amazing job at explaining how the pre trip is broke down and what things to physically touch and how to word it. My entire test went off without a hitch! Thank you for recording this and putting it out for everyone!
he gets in the truck and then put it in gear and turns it off so it doesn’t roll then charges the pressure for the brakes (parking brakes) So that he can test the pressure and if there is any leaks. But what I don’t understand is why isn’t the parking brake already on when he gets in the truck and why do you need to put it in first gear to listen for any pressure leaks? Why can’t you just leave it in park re-pressurize it and then turn it off without putting it in first geare
I want to take a moment to say thank you for going the extra step and properly explaining IN DEPTH of each part of the vehicle. The course i'm taking now just tells you what's on the exam without any explanation. This video is by far the best out here if you want to pass AND have the knowledge. Edit: Got my Class A first try!
I cant thank you enough for this Video. the info here the break down the full illustration of it and his explanation of the pre-trip is absolutely amazing, I watched this video at least 100 times and blow thru my exam with 100%. Terrific video for any1 who needs help, WATCH THIS VIDEO i cant express this enough. The best video by far. Now i went thru 160 Driving Academy and the DMV here in Las Vegas was stupid strict on the words used on our pamplets given but this video was still the go to.
I sustained a TBI and I’m currently working and studying for my CDL A permit. I hope I can remember all of this but this is an extremely detailed video and I’m so grateful for it!
I used your video to help prepare for my test today. Passed on the first try! Examiner said I only missed one item on the pre trip inspection. I told her about this video and she is going to pass it on to those who fail. Thanks so much!!!
I would like to thank Jeff at Apex for the video on the pre trip! Thanks to your direct and clear instructions, I aced the pre trip and the air brakes portion of the class a driving test. You and along with my instructors at the Sergio’s trucking school, were monumental in my success. Thanks again and folks! Watch this video as many times as you need!!! Trust me, it’s worth it.
Studying to get my CDL! I’m a Landfill Heavy Equipment Operator Caterpillar! I plan to Ace my test the 1st time, (I’m a Visual Learner)by watching this over and over! Thank you very much for creating this well informative video!
I just got my CDL Class A today thanks to this video I watch the video for one week straight and I passed my CDL all three test and I never Drive a big truck never been inside one so it really works thank you
Arian A I have my permit, took the written tests, now I just need to set up an appointment for the driving part to get my license... you telling me that I will pass it JUST by knowing the pre-trip?? Surely there is something else I need to be ready for? Like actually driving/parking/shifting the truck..?? Surely..
@@chrismoney1468 you will have to do a driving/skills test. The tests vary depending on your county. Mine only included my Straight backing, offset backing, parallel park and had to drive around the block.
Excellent job Jeff, I was a police officer for 30 years, 10 of those years I spent supervising the commercial vehicle , accident investigation bureau of our police dept.
How is that a problem when he is the one teaching and knows 😂 congrats btw
@@mikkey246 "Examiner" not teacher
Van Litespeed just here to say that your comment is to long to read
Joel Macareno
If it was too long then I’m pretty sure we won’t be seeing you waste your time on some silly pretrip bc that takes even more time.
Van Litespeed hell I drive my wife’s minivan doing postmates , even with that I check for leaks before I start it. Can’t be too careful.
The guy in the video said to check everything if you’re going on the road but there’s a reason why you only do half of it during the test. They just want to know that you know what you’re looking for and not wasting their time if you do everything twice...
This instructor is good I respect his professionalism I feel confident I will pass my brake test
I just got my CDL in Connecticut.
Whilst it’s probably not advisable I watched this video like ten times and then did my first ever pre-trip on the actual CDL test itself.
The tester told me I did an awesome job. This video works.
I'm planning to do the same haha! I have only ever checked the tires, oil, power steering, coolant until watching this video lol
So u knew how to drive?
Was it class b or class a? I got my class b two years ago too watching this video. But am now going for my class a
This was fantastic!!

Why can’t you just leave it in park re-pressurize it and then turn it off without putting it in first gear……….
can you pass me your notes?
I will recommend this video to new students it really helps I just passed my test yesterday
Thanks 🙏

So much to remember but I'll watch this many times if I have to so I can get that cdl and leave my crappy job.
Update: Just finished the pre trip portion. Second attempt though since I missed the pass quota by 2 points. Depending on if the tractor has it, call out the DEF reservoir next to the fuel tank. As well if the examiner wants you to be specific on the gauges:
Engine temperature: 165-185F
Oil pressure: 30-75 PSI
Voltmeter: 12-14V
Transmission temperature: 180-250F
Air Pressure in tanks: 100psi recommended
Same we got this lol
Did you leave your crappy job yet?
Same here
Thank you for the heads up 👍
Good point about being specific about the gauges. When Jeff talked about checking the tire with a pressure gauge he said it needs to be at least 100 psi, but for the gauges inside the cab they just needed to be "at the proper operating level". The license examener doesn't know if the person being tested knows what those proper operating levels are unless you mention it specifically.

+stephen driver what about headlight fluid..?
+stephen driver the problem with that is twofold. first most slack adjusters today are self adjusting and as long as you do a pumpdown the brakes should always be in adjustment. secondly most drivers today would most likely crank them down and cause a fire
He doesn't show that, probably because all vehicles as of 199? have automatic adjusters. No company you work for will have manually adjusted brakes on them. If you work for one, get a new job, the equipment is prehistoric, though I like the manually adjusted ones better.

Dude is one hell of an instructor.
My first day to CDL school is tomorrow. I'm ready, because of you ) Thank you very much for your video.
Got my CDL today! Thanks!
Hello there : first let me start by saying you’re the only gentleman on the TH-cam who speaks clearly, explains everything the right way , as non native English speaker I can tell you that I understood every single vocabulary you said and every single part you pointed out, and I can tell that my eyes are following your hands while my ears listening, I got my CDL back in 2014 , and I didn’t use it , but I get online every now and then to watch the pre trip inspection to keep myself connected, and I am not knowledgeable in the mechanics field but I can say that your way of lecturing is way much advanced taking in consideration that most of CDL students are not native English speaking individuals. ,
Thank you again.
Thank you.
I must have seen this video 5 to 10 times, all well worth it cause today I received my CDL once again. Thanks Apex!!
I passed my CDL road test in Nj on my first attempt today! Examiner didn’t even have me do couplings, and fifth wheel, after mentioning everything on section B inspection! This video is gold!! Thanks 🙏🏼…
If you're reading you're gonna pass EVERYTHING THE FIRST TIME‼️‼️‼️
Thank You
Thank you for believing in me. I received this message 2 years later.❤
This is from 2 years ago, I hope you still have the same confidence in me, I go this week for my test. LOL I hope you are doing well!!
@dockterp1 absolutely!!!! You got this!!!!
for all you ladies and gentlemen of California. The In-cab and brake test in this clip is great and bless this man (jeffrey-steinberg) for making it so clear and understandable but!!! In California there are a few ad-ons
Good luck
not surprised.
elaborate on california pretrip inspection
I'm in California..i noticed not big schools here, could that be cuz of all these fucking extra laws😂 I can't wait to leave this state & start somewhere else near my school..prob Arizona.
Is there anything that POS state does like the rest of the country? It's literally like a different world over there. They just HAVE to have everything so much more over the top in that liberal ass state.
It’s similar here in Washington state
Passed my CDL test yesterday. This video was so helpful. I highly recommend to anyone trying to get their CDL. Best of luck to everyone and thank you for this video.
*HORSE SOUNDS*
Sharing my story like everyone else 3 months ago decided for my wife and kid that i was going to get my class A. Today that happened i got the entire truck and thanks to this video i passed my pre trip exam with a 100 percent. If i can do it anyone can. DREAM BIG
Passed my class A pre trip on my first try thank you so much! I don’t know if I could have done it with out this video. Good luck and you can do it!
Man my friend told me to come to TH-cam to watch a pre check video.I had no idea it would be this is a nice detailed video.I haven't started CDL class yet but I can't wait and I hope my instructor is a very good like you went over every detail.Nice and calm and very easy to understand.I feel like I'm a step ahead before I start I will watch this several times again before testing thanks again man
This guy is clear, concise, and thorough. Excellent video!
I couldn’t tell you how many people I refer this video to. I passed my CDL test 4 years ago thanks to this video. It’s the best you’ll find!!
O my goodness you are so lucky
Remember this song!! Beat the pre-trip inspection !!!😮😮

This video helped me pass my pre trip, in-cab, and airbrakes. Thanks for the detail vid. Passed my CDL exam
I sustained a TBI and I’m currently working and studying for my CDL A permit. I hope I can remember all of this but this is an extremely detailed video and I’m so grateful for it!
Just wanted to see how you're doing with your training and that you aced it and got your CDL!
Studying for my CDL and could pass the written no prob but this video is a huge help for the inspection. Thanks for this lesson.. fantastic!
Brandon Roe thanks buddy, that is what it is looking like I'm gonna have to do here In central Texas. I'm mainly just concerned with pre-trip stuff.
@@chrismoney1468 Good luck, brotha! Did mine out of West Texas.
Brandon Roe drive around the block ? Lol that’s it
