Beshar Al-Azzawi is a highly acclaimed Iraqi singer composer and musician. Born in Baghdad, he started playing the guitar at the age of sixteen and joined the high school band. Though he graduated from the college of Engineering in Baghdad with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, he chose to pursue a career in music where he established himself professionally through his distinctive performances ranging from Spanish gipsy songs to old traditional Iraqi music. Feeling restless, Beshar moved to Europe where he infused different music genres into his music, to create a unique style called "NuName". Beshar released several music albums, and performed in world-class music festivals and was involved in several intercultural music projects in Europe and the USA.

Very true Chris. If you think about the tradition and history of those civilizations, imagine what those people lived through in the thousands of years, lots of empires, wars, loss but also rebuilding and hope. Everything has influenced the culture and even the music.

I am currently writing a research proposal to publish a guidebook/manual for western classical guitar composers, arrangers, and performers to learn how to use Arabic music in their creative work AND how to arrange and play established folk/classical repertoire. Currently I am researching Abbasid classical performance practice but I know I'll expand to contemporary music. Would love any access to any resource if possible such as: books, articles, stories, music scores, and if I get the grant, a possible 1-1 meetings and lessons.

This is beautiful and soulful. I got goosebumps from this. Peace to the Iraqi people and other neighboring middle easterns. Hope things one day will be much better for the Iraqi people. And people stop the stereotypes of middle eastern people, we are all one.
My Iraq was a very nice place to live in, all the things changed with flick of fingers what we can say 😔😔😔
