The story is actually kinda sad. Apparently the family who owned this Gundam went broke and sold the Armor parts to survive. So it was rebuild with whatever they had on hand when it was acquired. The Thrusters on its waist are made to compensate for the assymetry of the body. What's really cool is that this Gundam has an "Origin" version that's it's original design. I wish every IBO Gundam had this.
HGIBO is a kitbasher's paradise. I've got 4 kits from the HGIBO line and I've only built 2. 1 Grimgerde and the othe is a kitbash of the 3 Gundams. Will be getting this to add to that chimera of sorts.
The arm thing reminds me of Banshee It's such a nice design, just a shame it looks a little too toy-like with that intense blue. Guess paint can fix that.
This is personally the kit that got me to realize not all HG IBO were a floppy mess. My Barbatos was basically trash but this one was Solid and really looks great with panel lining. The giant unfolding sword is one of the coolest weapons for a Gundam.
They couldn't include the blue parts on the side boosters? The kit looks pretty dope. The asymmetrical look is just too cool and that sword is a great feature along with the sub-knuckle. I also love the amount of panel-lining this thing will give.
After 6 years of time, I just realise that the box art of the hg Astaroth features weapons from other hg iron blooded orphans kits in the background. Barbatos sword on the left, barbatos lupus Rex giant mace on the right, below the sub knuckle, the claw from barbatos third form(I think) and the giant hammer from Gusion.
Really wish we would get a MG or No Grade for the Astaroth since I enjoy the design, but oh well, a guy can hope. But imagine a 1/100 scale demolition knife, that would be sick.
I do agree with a good number of gripes in this review (needed to paint a few pieces to get accuracy issues to stop bothering me, the left shoulder looks really bad if the inside is ever visible, etc), but I think they may have switched switched a different blue plastic. It's still a bit easy to mark and is gonna need that extra care, but it's not that ridiculously bright blue that is seen in your video anymore. It could just be your saturation effects brightening it a lot, but I find that my own Astaroth's blue is actually quite lot of a softer blue than what is shown here, and I quite like it. Also, definitely be sure to tighten those arm, waist, and chest joints. That sword is substantial.
I remember when the first pics of the Astaroth leaked, and I thought it had a giant shotgun on his back instead of the sword. Oh well, a giant sword is still cool, I guess...
Great review. I'm on the fence on this kit after the review. The promo pictures major it look fantastic but seeing it in the review almost gives it a lackluster vibe. Did you panel line it? And if so does it make the kit look a little better?
Awesome review ! Thinking to get both of this kit For double sub knuckle custom . . . Awesome review! I'm thinking to getting two sets of this kit for a double sub knuckle custom.
LOVE THSI ONE! It's very simple but I love the design and I got it for like 12$ :D I would kill for a MG of this but you know Bandai, no risks whatsoever, only the main suit and the rest (If any) is PBandai
Jon Shaffer larger kits normally have more anime accurate details eg. no grade 1 100 barbatos and the HG 1 144 barbatos and usually use more intricate parts+more colour separation through plastic parts instead of stickers
gundam astaroth.... now we wait for a final fantasy custom build. Better idea for the sword (if the weight is a pain in the ass): get rid of half of it, keep the front half of it, attach it to the handle, and add aditional parts for more "meat" to the blade. And then a nice paint job of course
Mecha, I think your mic it's starting to malfunction because sometimes I hear some ¿Blur? when you speak. It's not a big deal, in fact, it isn't a problem for us but maybe for you will be a problem on the future.
Astaroth definitely lacks the awesomeness of Vidar. Vidar is a much evil, cool and stylized mobile suit than Astaroth. Yes Vidar does comes with a huge amount of stickers but IMO, Vidar is WAAAAYYY better than Astaroth.
idk if its just mine or something, but i just built mine, and he likes to fall apart too easily. not to mention he can barely hold his weapons but the gun securely
Nice work as usual @Mecha_Gaikotsu ! :-) Agree that somehow this model does not seem (from the video anyway) quite up to the production quality of previous IBO kits, which is a shame since this is actually the one I was looking forward to the most. Regardless I think I'll still buy it. Still waiting on that Gusion Rebake 1/144 review! :-p
was really excited for this kit but it just looks cheap. after some painting and lining could look amazing . weathering would really add to the main mash nature
gundam.wikia.com/wiki/ASW-G-29_Gundam_Astaroth gundam.wikia.com/wiki/UGY-R38_Spinner_Rodi The pilot, Argi Mirage reminds me of Sakata Gintoki from the Gintama series. LOL Yes. That top shoulder is taken from the Spinner Rodi as I mentioned in a comment before. That whole thing about buying 2 to have a more symmetrical look is typical of Bandai; especially with the IBO series. They want to you to buy multiples to scavenge parts for variations and making symmetrical, "complete" versions of certain units. So actually you would need to buy 3x of this HG to have a complete and a "standard" looking Gundam Astaroth. That knife is actually called the Demolition Knife. So I suppose that is a fair description. It's like calling a Buster Sword a large knife..lol
Am I the only one that prefers this original Astaroth to any of the variants? Origin is annoying to pose and Rinacimablahblah looks janky... Meh.. Gusion Rebake Full Shitty is my fave of all IBO kits, so I guess "to each their own" lol. Gunpla love! Keep building!
Demolition Knife my ass! That's a Demolition Greatsword! And I mean it's the proportionate size of an actual greatsword, not like what a video game would call a greatsword (which is really just a longsword on the longer side of the sectrum)
patrick bucoy oh that one! Tentative we have to wait till october for! But yes, it will be awesome. It even has that aile strike pack design or something akin to it.
VeryUnskilled a2-32 is an extra piece not used on the astaroth but included in the kit as it is usually used in other gundam kits that used the frame. ps. check the parts list in the instruction booklet
Has a special left arm. Check. Sword that is too big. Check. Is bigger and more menacing looking than the other one. Check. Astaroth is Gundam Guts
Rap Zalsos no that’s akihiro, akihero, akiheero Aki...fuck it you get the idea
Honestly more like Nightmare from Soul Calibur
@@fatbastard9147 That's obvious but he isn't talking about the pilot. He's talking about the gundam.
Space guts tho, gundam guts Cuz astaroth is a gundam (lol srry dont get at me forgive me-)
A Gundam that's built with random parts, but is still bad-ass, I like that idea.
It's like crossout meets gundam
PuzZleS agree kimaris vidar legs , barbatos chest , flauros head , full city and bael arms

beam rifle? whats that?
-kid living in Post Disaster 323
anti material gun
hes talking about how theres no beam rifles in ibo.
the sniper rifle of Astaroth is called Anti Material Rifle

Lol same. Planning to kitbash all three Astaroths together.
@@Gervaj79 perfect astaroth

mecha: it's not that much
This kit really benefits from panel-lining, especially the legs and the booster wings, they have a lot of lines that pop a whole lot more
got this one for my birthday now all I got do is build it
Get barbatos
Happy birthday bro
Happy birthday
Hope you had a fun time, bro
Happy belated birthday bro.....

thats not a beam rifle. IBO has no beam weaponry
That's not a beam rifle, it's a space station!
+GunplaRay96 said that out of absolute habit 😅
+Jerald Tham (Houka) lmfao.
now you can take your word back lol
GunplaRay ibo ms reflect beam weapon
They couldn't include the blue parts on the side boosters? The kit looks pretty dope. The asymmetrical look is just too cool and that sword is a great feature along with the sub-knuckle. I also love the amount of panel-lining this thing will give.
really like your review thanks for this xD especially my astaroth will be coming this end of june
I personally like this fundamental for the fact that it's so different from normal gundam.

Great review, man. Hope I can get one of these soon! Thanks!
+Thiago Monteiro you're welcome!
It feels like this is a kit that just gains sooooo much from just panel lining it.
+MrFlunkorg that would make a big difference!

I was thinking of buying this one, and then I hear about the RG sinanju, guess i have to saving up money from now
My older brother bought this, did some serious weathering on it. Never see this kit the same
Seeing this kit again after all these years...totally gonna be a P-Bandai if it ever gets an MG
You know they sell a whole separate thing for the hands? Like they sell that now(atm I'm in Tokyo) so idk if that's new.
I really thought hush middy gonna pilot this gundam back then
I’m glad that I got blood coating version it look so cool
This with good panellining and weathering could look super fine
Do you think are we going to see the same line of 1/100 like 1st IBO series?
I remember when the first pics of the Astaroth leaked, and I thought it had a giant shotgun on his back instead of the sword. Oh well, a giant sword is still cool, I guess...
+RiderSkullMan shotgun would be sweet too!
probably two of these one for dual weaponry, the other for punching stuff.
+Lester Buccat double swords and double fists! I like it!
Great review. I'm on the fence on this kit after the review. The promo pictures major it look fantastic but seeing it in the review almost gives it a lackluster vibe. Did you panel line it? And if so does it make the kit look a little better?
i am totally with you on this
I don't think he panel lined the kit, but I'm pretty sure that it would add a good amount of details in its visual.
+Actionfiguresquad I didn't panel line it in the end, it would make it look better, but it's still a bit lacking without some paint

+Vui Mann Yapp I was considering doing the same!
i cant believe you called the submachine gun a beam rifle, there are no beams in IBO, and the writers said that there never will be
+SilverWolf99 complete and utter habit! 😅
thats completely understandable with how Gundam normally works XD
this comment feels weird in this post- hashmal time we live in now.
chosenjuan yes, and it was revealed that if the tech was still around most large ships like the ones gjallarhorn uses could have one as well.
TheMemester439 thats just awesome!
A regular strike gundam(without any add-ons) has combat knives too :)
+paie85 that's they're the ones I was talking about, the armor schneiders
The only thing that disappointed me in this kit was the lack of storage for the rifle and the knife when deploying the sword instead.
I changed some color of the picture version of this figure from blue into red and I must say,.. this figure can pull of red frame.
My first gunpla
Mecha Gaikotsu I ordered an Astaroth and it has side to side movement in the waist.
Is there any storage for the gun and the knife?
I like the chest armor and would use that piece and maybe the armor of the left arm to customize another kit.
LOVE THSI ONE! It's very simple but I love the design and I got it for like 12$ :D
I would kill for a MG of this but you know Bandai, no risks whatsoever, only the main suit and the rest (If any) is PBandai
The dang Subknuckle arm side falls off too often, along with the subknuckle itself. Also my kit was too loose right after finishing the build.
TBH i love the head design.. and thats my opinion, but anyways tks u for review, love your vids
new at this, only built three, but what is the difference between the scales aside from size?
Jon Shaffer ask google bro. it will help you a lot
Jon Shaffer
I like using the word "Downsizing".
Jon Shaffer larger kits normally have more anime accurate details eg. no grade 1 100 barbatos and the HG 1 144 barbatos and usually use more intricate parts+more colour separation through plastic parts instead of stickers

Bought 2. And yeah the two variants look like 2 brothers hehe
that's just actually a submachine gun, since in the series so far, Beam Weapons haven't been introduced yet.
It's a pity that there's no gimmick opening up in the booster to store that knife
I kinda wanna get this so I can complete the astaroth line but at the same tome I don't feel like I really need it
What HG Gundam Frame it uses? I'm just curious xD
I want to make a Cloud variant of this. Advent Children pallete.
This is my first gundam
There's pretty much a history to it though
What should I do if I misplaced a part of my gunpla?
Now i have to read the manga.
Bandai:You want it cool? Buy that twice 😂
Uh can someone please explain? I haven't seen the Astaroth in IBO yet.
i love you dude.. i love you you're one awesome dude
+Kazuki Souji wow, thanks man! 😄
Definitely needs some panel lining
Can someone please explain? I haven't seen the Astaroth in IBO, Is it just a frame that isn't in the anime?
it's from the side-sequel IBO gekko Manga it's on-going just 4 chapters in present day.
Mecha, I think your mic it's starting to malfunction because sometimes I hear some ¿Blur? when you speak.
It's not a big deal, in fact, it isn't a problem for us but maybe for you will be a problem on the future.
What kit should I buy?
Vidar or Asatroth
Astaroth definitely lacks the awesomeness of Vidar. Vidar is a much evil, cool and stylized mobile suit than Astaroth. Yes Vidar does comes with a huge amount of stickers but IMO, Vidar is WAAAAYYY better than Astaroth.
What is the music in the beginning?
Can't help but notice but I heard you say beam rifle when it was supposed to be just a rifle.
The head, to me, seems to resemble the Hazel from A.O.Z. Slightly. I like that, but I'm going to skip this one I presume.
oh yeah do you also have a instagrame page?
Mecha ever consider buying astoroth origin?
idk if its just mine or something, but i just built mine, and he likes to fall apart too easily. not to mention he can barely hold his weapons but the gun securely
