Probably you just need the return line to dump it to the sump. Not the valve. The same as a post pounder, no restriction on the return line , otherwise damage will occur when you turn it off.@@ada-yw1bb
Good morning Sandy it is working out nicely I like the way it tilt side way almost like one of those you see on a tractor from plubic maintenance off road but there is more like a backhoe and it sure beats the heck out of brache cutters and pole saw and a lots faster lol have a great day
That is some beast Sandy, I can see you are going to have a load of fun with that monster, the smaller trees you can just put it over the top and just bring it down on it and the tree vanishes. Jim from Scotland.
Wow ! Sandy that is quite a set up :) I have watched you out there in snow up to your " " " & trying to chainsaw your way through ! Such a nice machine to reach up & get the ones that will just slap you next year or big snow, Awesome change for your work place :))
Man, your videos are making me wanting to spend money. Love your channel. My dad and I bonded over tractors when I showed him one of your videos before buying the tooth bar 🙏
Right on Sandy! Pretty happy for you buddy! Great demonstration and review! Would like to see how it is positioned from horizontal to vertical. Thanks for having us along Sandy! I always enjoy my visit! Take care! Cheers! Andrew from NB :)
Its a beautiful thing! Got to admit that because I am so used to a Bush hog, when you made your video on the LS4 I thought you were slightly out of season for Ontario. Then you come out and use it in winter. We have to maintain a very similar woodlot as yours and I can see the benefits of that tool. And actually using it in winter along the edges of the trails is perfect as that is when the branches come down to their lowest position. Lucky you got a cab ....thanks for sharing
Hi Yves! Yeah you're right about the ability to use it in the winter. Without that it wouldn't be nearly as helpful for me as it is. I'll be out all winter long with this as well as the summer I"m thinking. Really keep things cleared back. In the winter with the branches weighted down it allows me to see what branches are the culprits and take care of them. Hope you're enjoy the new year! See you on the next video!
Just got in and had to get to your channel, Masterpiece equipment you have now, the snow worked in your favor bringing the limbs down lower so it cut them where they would be higher up off the trail. You may get calls from your neighbors to come and cut their trails / roadways now. As I said before Awesome! Stay safe and warm we are in the teens here in N GA as is much of the country. John Toccoa GA Brrrr! 👍👍👍
Congrats Sandy, on getting the use out-of ur new Lane shark LS4 Brush Cutter. Have a couple of Beers on me when u get finished. Notice that i had seen the cabin that u had built. I had seen those brush cutters being used on an excavators.
This tool resembles what is used along the interstate roads in some states near me. Some states do not need it because they just don't have trees growing the interstate roads. The cleanup may be just a matter of mulching it up. That could be a good thing for the trails. Have good days!
Yes sir, that is a great implement to have year round !!!!! Thanks for bringing it to our attention brother !!!!!! Going to look into this for sure !!!!!
Sandy: "I'm gonna lift this thing up to pretty much head height." - proceeds to cut branches 15' in the air 😅 That thing is slick!!! Game changer for paths 😁👍
Sandy, it looks like you've got a winner there. I can testify that walking trails with a chainsaw, loppers or a hedge trimmer is no joy. Especially in the summer in Texas. Im going to have to do some research on your new tool. Ive got several miles of forested trails and a tool like this could really speed things along.
Hi Bob! Absolutely. Hauling around all those tools sure wore me out as I did that for years as well. I'm thinking this will help me get things done alot faster for sure. I"ll keep ya posted with more videos in the future with this
Well, that works slick! I can see where a tractor cab would be an advantage using that particular implement. You just have to be careful you don't poke an eye out on a protruding branch stub when you're walking down the trail. 🙂 Keep up the good work!
This lane shark is an impressive piece of equipment. It seemed to cut the limbs very easily and I have to agree. It is a game changer. I'm sure all your trails will be clear of tree limbs very soon. It's always good to get a new toy. That works this well. Great video Sandy.
Yes those brush cutters are impressive, and you will definitely be glad you got it. And you looked like a professional in stalling that 3rd function kit. Good job Sandy
been wanting to get one for the farm .they are great from all the research i have done with people that own them but i cant afford one rite now but someday i will have one on the tractor
Very nice. I have an inordinate amount of fence line and trails that are surrounded by trees and brush. That does indeed look like a real time saver. One thing I would do right away is put reflective safety tape on all edges of the cutter deck. Not just for the obvious, but also so there is no question where its edges are when in use.
Bush Cutter sounds like ¡Arriba!" ¡Arriba!" said by Speedy Gonzales to speed things up. Of course Speedy can't speed up this type of work. Nice video and a game changer when walking behind and slapped in the face with a snow covered branch.
Well Sandy, looks like you have your self a very handy tool. You may be able to hire out and make some side money. The set up you have what’s the cost to buy and shipping? That really looks like a tool to definitely have around. Glad you could get out and try it out. Great time to trim, less chances of disease getting in the trees. Great video.
Yeah up until this point I was going along with the pole saw which is fine and all but after walking for so long with the pole saw I had enough of that haha
Doing the trails for the first time takes the longest. Next year all you have to do is start at the bottom and drive up one side of the trail then back up the other side, then raise it up 3 feet ( You can go 4 feet but I think 3 feet leaves the sides cleaner ) and repeat as many times as needed.
You're right there Wallace. After years of growth and not being cut back it's taking time but about 100x faster than me walking haha. Once I get the hang of this I"ll be cutting back reguarly much faster like you said
Another great video. Just wondering if you could do a video showing how many positions the Lane Shark has and how to change them. At 450 lbs, you are not moving that by hand.
A super implement choice Sandy !!! Looks like it works excellently (the install video was great too). I was wondering whether it could be turned vertically for clearing along the sides of trails as well as lifted in the horizontal position for overhead branch clearing -- this video answers those questions perfectly.
Just need to watch the torque on the loader arms and frame, especially when low and to the side. Stumps! Loaders aren't made for side loads, just front to back, up and down. I just spent a month trimming my trails, flail mowe4, then chainsaw, polesaw and lopers. This would have been welcome.
For anyone who knows the feeling of snow landing on your head and going down your back they probably cringe at the sight of snow covered branches like that haha. I know I do
Pretty cool! Im curious how that blade holds up. Were there any knicks when you were done? And does one sharpen it like a lawnmower blade? Makes me smile to see you so excited! I see you having lots of fun creating constructive destruction with this. Have a wonderful week Sandy! 👋👍🥶
I saw your comments at the end about stability. Looks like you've got pretty flat areas, so probably not an issue in those cases, but wondering about slope potential. Of course it depends on the tractor setup, but I've got a DK45HSE, so very similar to what you're running
Hi Frank. Good question. they do make a LS3 which is a slightly smaller version of this with a lower gpm flow requirement as well. I'll be sure to keep you updated how things go for it as I keep using it. Thanks for coming along for the video.
Great idea right there Brian. I think for now the snow may cover everythig up before I get around to cleaning it but in the spring I"ll run along with my landscape rake to tidy up for now
I had those questions about the hydraulic oil temp, thanks for addressing that issue, I think that Gord Potter from GP outdoors should have one of those, I don't know how close you are to him,,he told me once he is north of Haliburton
Sandy, you answered one of my questions... the stability of the tractor with the mower offset, tilted vertical and raised to its maximum elevation. How's the stability if the tractors on a side slope, or did you encounter that? I would say to offset it when operating horizontal. That way the tractor remains on the road surface rather than the shoulder. It looks like you've got a pretty efficient new toy there, just be careful with it while you're learning to operate it. Has your tractor got hydrostatic, or manual transmission? The hydro would make it even more efficient with regard to maintaining a desired speed. OK... go clear some more roads!!
Hi Sandy!!😀😀 The Lane Shark is a really nice mower. I was wondering what it was going to do when you moved the loader and I was right. It stops flowing to the mower. But that's not the worst thing. You just have to get it positioned and let the mower catch up then move into what ever you are cutting. Overall I think it's a nice setup for the average tractor. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al
The poor man's forest mulcher! It looks for all the world like the blades on our 3 point hitch brush cutter, just attached to the front and extremely manipulatable...is that about right? I wonder if it can also cut fields like our brush cutter. I really like the idea of being able to have the cutter in front of me so I can see what I'm cutting, when to raise it up slightly due to abrupt elevation changes, etc, vs pulling it behind the tractor and bottoming out on dirt or rocks before realizing it. Might be worth selling the cutter to get one of these if it can do what you're showcasing here as well as roughly mow our fields and roads.
Hi Steve, great question. I've got a separate video coming up soon that will show the way you switch the different positions. It is done manually by getting off the tractor and raising up the loader.
Quite effective thing must admit 👍.. but maybe it would make sense to install a protective grill in front of the tractor's windshield .. just in case .. some flying branches can cause a lot of trouble.
Looks like it makes clean cuts. Some of the township municipality hire in units for roadside that don’t really cut. They seam to shred and it looks bad and probably more disease pests could get into the tree
That winding sound the hydraulic moter spooling up again? I could definitely use that up here. Have a great weekend Sandy. And without a counterweight.
Hey there neighbour! Yeah when I lift the loader some hydraulic fluid flow is directed away from the blades motor for a brief second so the speed slows slightly until I stop moving the loader
Goegeous property! I am on the fence with getting a adjustable flail mower or this lane shark. I need to clear some parts of my property. I want a flail mower instead of a bush hog (cutter) to bulky for my needs . I have a wr long 3rd function already on my branson 3520. I would need to add rear remotes to run the type of flail mower i would like. Any suggestions ?
Hey there Lenny! Thanks for checking out the video. I do find this property really beautiful in the winter as well. Peaceful for sure. I'd probably want to check that the third function that's on your tractor would work with the LaneShark and then depending on that that would likely give me some direction on which route to go. One thing that drew me to this was the ability to cut way up high along the edge of my trails as most of my trail work is overhanging branches.
Nice piece of equipment there Sandy. How hard is it to change positions from middle in front to offset to vertical? We sure get lazy in our old age, don’t we?😂😂😂
Hi Robert, you're right about that. As I age I look more and more to things I can use to get my chores done easier and faster. I'll put out a video before long showing how to do the position changes specifically but it's pretty easy overall. Have to lift the loader up and tile the cutter facing downwards and then there's a few pins to adjust.
This looks like an implement that would work well for me. Some concern because I run a DK5310 open station. Don’t want a face full of brush. Also, I have a factory third function. Not true third function. Would this work? Thank you for the video Sandy.
As long as your factory third function is an electronic third function and not a diverter valve, it will work with the Lane Shark. You'll need to add a return hose directly to the sump of the tractor for a zero pressure return. Let us know if you have any additional questions!
Nice piece of kit there. But I'm a number cruncher.... My thoughts on ANY piece of iron are: how many "sessions" will I use it for more than 3-4 hrs? Do i use weekly, monthly? Is it directly tied to production & revenue generation ? I forget how large your timber tract is, but just off-hand, I'd say rent one and cut primary trails for a week in summer, then use another week in winter to remove all the overhang, like in this video. For me, I'd have to use this on a semi full time basis (20 hr per week) for a year to justify a purchase; otherwise rent or hire out. Operations cost, depreciation, maintenance & repair is just too much for me on "specialty" equipment.
Hi Sandy.... My question is this... I have a John Deere tractor with a Deere third function kit. I wonder if i bought a Laneshark , would I have to change out the Deere third function to a Lane shark third function kit in order to insure hydraulic fluid not overheating? Anyway, it looks like you are having fun with winter for a change instead of struggling with it like most acreage holders do. Cheers!
Hi Lorne. That's a good question. I dont know for certain to be honest. May be best answered by Lane Shark just so I dont give you the wrong advice. Thanks for coming along for the video!
Great question. As long as your current third function is an electronic third function, you're able to use that to power the Lane Shark with a return going directly back to the sump of the tractor. The return going directly back to the sump of the tractor is what prevents overheating issues with your configuration. Let us know if you have any additional questions.
Hi Sandy Do you have enough oil flow?I think it is slowing down way too much to my liking if i had your model. I would assume that it need at least 60 liter a minute or 16 glm. But then if it dose the job and cut the branches nice and clean you must have a flow good enough for the machine
Hi Sandy. Is there my reason that you could not run this implement from a rear hydraulic port the same as you do for a backhoe? Do you have to use the third function valve? I have a kioti ck3510. Just wondering if that is enough tractor for the lane shark. Thanks, Charlie. P.S. , I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
Hi Charles, I'm not 100% sure on this one unfortunately. I'd have to double-check with LaneShark for options here. I appreciate you checking out all the videos each week! Have a great rest of your day!
Charles, we previously have used rear remotes (separate from the BH connections) but ran into too many issues with the possibility of losing loader functionality. The third function route, if plumbed properly, alleviates that issue. Let us know if you have any additional questions!
Yeah for sure. Since this was my first time out with it there's a few things I"ll button up for next time like tying up the hoses and putting a hose guard on
Thank you so much Sandy! If anyone has any questions about our products, we are happy to chime in.
Can I use this with my existing third function valve ?
Yes, as long as it's a true electronic third function valve.

Its cool, but not $7000 dollars cool!

I liked how this worked. Stick your landscape rake on the back and use it to rake up the branches...

Hi Frank. Good question. they do make a LS3 which is a slightly smaller version of this with a lower gpm flow requirement as well. I'll be sure to keep you updated how things go for it as I keep using it. Thanks for coming along for the video.
Frank, the minimum pump flow requirement for the LS3 is 5 gpm.

I think you need a 4th function so you can rotate the cutter from cab, that would be even better game changer to the game changer........

Nice piece of gear. It should help with wear and tear on equipment from the branches. Is changing from horizontal to vertical manual or hydraulic?

I am very happy with you Spending 7k!
Thanks for checking out the video Rob
man I like it
Thanks Rodney. I'm liking it as well
This looks like an implement that would work well for me.
Awesome tool , however you better keep the glass company on speed dial , I afraid. 🤣🤣🤣
Very cool!
I can understand what you're saying there Will
That’s the loudest rudest. Most obnoxious thing I’ve ever seen. I LOVE IT. Did any of the debris hit your windshield?
Might be a good idea for a grill quard?
Yeah for sure
I have the ls2 there are a few designs that could be better but overall a good product
Hi Sandy Do you have enough oil flow?I think it is slowing down way too much to my liking if i had your model. I would assume that it need at least 60 liter a minute or 16 glm. But then if it dose the job and cut the branches nice and clean you must have a flow good enough for the machine
Hi
Sandy.
Keep an eye on your HYD. hose..
Yeah for sure. Since this was my first time out with it there's a few things I"ll button up for next time like tying up the hoses and putting a hose guard on
