    Hey Matt, I received my a1 yesterday as well + CF cards and reader. I had the same thoughts about the cards. If I am going with the A1 for frame rate, then it doesn't make sense to pull up short concerning the recording media, but $800 for two CF cards did slow me down for about 15 seconds. I was also glad to hear you mention Mark Galer. He is the most knowledgeable source/educator for getting the most from your Sony camera that I have come across. I use his PAL method on my a7mk4 and will set up the a1 similarly. I really enjoy your channel and Brian Matiash's, keep up the great work.

      Mark Galer's PAL setup for modes 1, 2 and 3 was so so useful, can react quickly to anything with a quick change of the dial, such a helpful channel for getting the most out of your Sony camera

      Sony went with those cards specifically because the slot is backwards compatible with regular SD, the cards are rapid, fast enough for the a1. The card prices will plummet over the years to come. Nikon/Sonys approach both have pros and cons

    I got my A1 about three weeks ago. The only drawback is not remembering the 30 fps and having to wade through a couple thousand pictures when you get home from the field. On the up side, you can pretty much pick whichever wing position you think looks best...

    I currently have four Sony full frame cameras. It is very tempting to trade them all in for the A1. I'm a hobbyist so very little reason to have so many cameras and it would reduce my personal item insurance. :p Since one of my cameras is the A9, I made sure to have lenses that could at least handle the A9 which is perfect for me with the A1 because I really want the lossless compressed raw format which is limited to 20 fps on the A1.

    • @MattKloskowski
      @MattKloskowski  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kristof. I'll always favor a fast shutter speed. Sharp before anything! I can always get rid of the noise in Topaz DeNoise, but blurry is hard to fix. And even if you can salvage it, it's never the quality I really want it to be. Sure, for some birds it's overkill and if I see my ISO getting up over 10,000 I may sacrifice some shutter if it's a slow moving bird. Thanks!

    Pretty insane, but this is when you ask why didn't Sony build a bigger body and use CFexpress Type B cards that are twice as fast as Sony's Type A considering both Canon and Nikon are using the Type B? Baffling really. I am not a Sony shooter, but am thinking of switching, not so much just for the A1, but the FE 200-600mm which I believe is arguably the best super zoom for birding out there given it is an internal zoom design. I never planned to spend $6.5K on a flagship body and was hoping Sony would bring out the A7R V this year. Ideally with a faster frame rate such as 61 MP at 20 fps. But, I haven't heard a word that it will happen this year. As a Sony ambassador, have you heard any news on the A7R V? If is still crickets, I think I might have to give the A1 some serious consideration as I don't want to wait much longer.

    • @MattKloskowski
      @MattKloskowski  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alex. As a Sony shooter I've never asked myself that question :-) I don't even know what type a or b or c is. I just know whatever it is it works great and I honestly have no idea what canon and nikon have on their cameras. I just don't follow other brands. As for future cameras, hopefully you understand any news I would have would be under NDA and posting it on social media would be a great way to get kicked out :-)
      But... I can honestly tell you I have heard nothing. Which probably doesn't help because before the r4 came out, I had heard nothing up until that day. Great camera though if you're a wildlife shooter. If not, I'm not sure I would pull the trigger as some of the other cameras should do just fine for less money. Thanks!

    • @MattKloskowski
      @MattKloskowski  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's as good or better than the a9 so far. Bird eye auto focus is what you'd expect. It works great when you can see the eye and when the bird is large enough in the frame. Typically we don't want just a regular BIF image with the bird flying and not doing anything. So the moment the bird tries to catch a fish, or squabble with another bird, wings go up and they cover their eyes. But since Sony AF is so good, it stays locked on the bird just like it normally does - which is the same auto focus I've always had, so I haven't noticed any difference.

    • @MattKloskowski
      @MattKloskowski  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Richard. As long as you use the auto focus settings that I outlined, you will get 30 fps... Whether the bird is in flight or not. Tony and Chelsea are great and I think they have a great channel. But there are already several videos (and info from Sony) that have shown that information is not correct. When you see the frame rate drop in his video, it's not because the camera can't achieve 30 fps for in flight, it's because the buffer is full and the fact that you still get 15 fps (with a full buffer for nearly as long as you want) is incredible. Again... overall they do great, but the info presented in the video you're referring to is incorrect. Thanks!

    • @richardbradley2641
      @richardbradley2641 3 ปีที่แล้ว

       I agree the buffer is the limiting factor and in their initial speel, Sony didn't mention the issue even tho they were aware that actually, you would get nearer a constant 15-20 and not the full 30. I know ALL manufacturers do it, it just bugs me.

    • @MattKloskowski
      @MattKloskowski  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Richard - I guess I don't understand what the issue is that Sony (or another manufacturer) didn't mention. Your initial comment said that you won't get 30 FPS in "different situations" which is not correct. You can get 30 fps in all shooting situations (flight, perched, trees, etc...). As long as you choose the right settings, the camera will deliver on 30 fps and Sony was very up front about what those settings are (as are most manufactures). So I'm not sure what bugs you, as they do indeed all deliver on what they claim. A full buffer is very different than a camera not achieving its advertised FPS. Thanks.
