Sand edges of where the button labels are fading, take a toothpick and dip it in the color of the label (white for the words, red/blue for the A/C, etc.) and go over where it is missing. Then use a toothpick for black. Once all colors are dry, use a clear coat of nail polish (or a similiar protective layer) and allow to dry. Cheaper, does the same job, and no replacing or ordering anything.
Excellent work, I see this could be performed on vintage/classic car radios where replacement buttons aren't available or if a multiple set of buttons need this repair
I have a 2009 Chevy Equinox and I can buy a new radio for 1/2 the cost of these kits from Superior Restoration. From the looks of this video it might also be less tedious to replace the stereo rather than apply vinyl to a few buttons.
Most older cars have used radios for sale with good buttons online or at your local wrecking yard so an easier solution. ;) My car I just painted the buttons over with black touch up paint until I can find a better radio.
Looks like you need real steady hands for this! A good five or six of the buttons on my GM radio are worn out like that, so I'm gonna have to keep this in mind.
I like the clear explanation with no bs. Just subscribed. And my '05 Prius has a peeling finish on the glove box button. Got anything for that? It's a dark grey mat finish.
Looks pretty tedious time consuming and expensive, but I guess if you’re a purist looking to restore your existing equipment rather than just replace it, this is definitely the way to go.
Replacing a $500 radio for a $2 button. Chooses to tear the whole dash apart instead of applying a sticker and using a hairdryer. And look, a whole bunch of people agree with you. 'Merica!
Riz Doogan You could order an entirely new button kit that fits your vehicle as well. Doesn't cost as much as a new head unit. Also a new radio doesn't do much for worn out A/C buttons.
i too would get a new woman if she didn't age to my liking. makeup or plastic surgery just hides a person's true appearance. alternatively, one could be content with hwat they have and not take a knife to something once it becomes unappealing.
I had a 2004 Volkswagen Touareg, and after 4-5 months almost ALL the buttons and switchgear was peeling and worn off. It was the main reason I got rid of it at 18 months 13000 something miles. Had this product been around back then, it would have been a different story.
would be easier to put an "info" sticker on it and paint the rest of the button then remove the sticker to reveal the white "info" underneath. Easier and faster. Then that fancy brush you showed us is really useful
How many buttons should I do at a time -- before I apply blow dryer? My radio has about 20 buttons. Should I do one at a time, a few at a time, or the entire face?
Definitely but I don’t think he meant to deceive anyone he just wanted to explain. In the end you see him do the whole process and it actually comes out pretty good
With most vehicles manufactured in the last 20+ years, Most switch panels, controls and radios operated using class 2 serial data, CAN (Controller Area Network-fast networks) or UART if older or on some newer "Peer-to-Peer" systems, like throttle actuated control. This makes door panel switches and many other controls more expensive and requires programming to share the VIN number, lines of code to tell it what vehicle it is in, as it may fit a lot of different models. Women do the most damage to switch faces because of finger nails. So, in short, replacing the button cover is way cheaper than replacement. P.S. Why do they use serial data to communicate? #1. Wire cost money and adds weight. #2. It allows for power control to shut off or turn on as it is a load to the alternator for fuel economy. #3. Most importantly, it allows a service tech, using a scan-tool to accurately diagnose the root cause of a failure, reducing diagnostic time while allowing "Flashing" or "Up-dating" a module, switch panel or other device to repair a known problem or change it's function for the better. Yes, this type of architecture is shared around the world, making the same repair, diagnostics and up-date in any county. Don't like it, blame the "Government" as CAFE number increase and emissions decrease. What is CAFE numbers? Google it! Retired ASE Master Tech / Ex-GM instructor.
I'll sell you my 2008 Chevy Tahoe with 250,000 kilometers on it for $150,000. Trust me you'll love it and it comes with a guaranttee you'll go to heaven when you die.
I bought the new buttons for my navigation 05 suburban, bought it used and cant read any buttons. I would never go through their fix with them little buttons. My thought is what can I coat my new buttons so they do not wear. Why does Chevy not fix their lousy buttons, not like cars are cheap then your buttons look like crap in a few months. What happen to pride in what you build. Does anyone have a suggestion on a coating. I am thinking of a good automotive clear coat???
I have a light dimmer switch that's needs to be restored. Are you for hire? These switches are not reproduced and hard to find ones for sale in good condition.
Jeff Kramer ohh now i understand lol well it depends if you have to order the decals and has to remove the radio you can charge 50...60 $. If the customer bring everything on hands you can charge 20$... If i was you i would think like a customer so at the time to give a price you know if its to expensive or cheap .. Where you are located its another fact ..here in Florida there are tons of places to fix everything...
Jeff Kramer I Know this was almost a year ago...But if you are into Trim Repair! I usually just add the touch up on buttons if the vehicle im working on Needs Interior Work such as Leather Dye, St.Wheel repair or rapairs on trim or Extract/Dye carpet/Mats Etc. Just as a curtacy deal! Most Dealerships just leave you the To Do Searching for Materials or replacement parts but others are more than welcome to search. For example the button vynil stickers and have you install them for a small fee or in my case i dont charge them so long as they order themselves. On a weekly basis they keep me busy so putting on some decals is worth while.
+Crazy Bro (BroStories) On a lot, especial GM radios like this, it's a pain in the rear to rip the thing open to replace the buttons. Replacing a lot of things like that is quite troublesome. This is a simpler option, and far less likely to result in a cracked radio, or a button that doesn't work right anymore.
Yeah 80 dollars is outrageous for 2 buttons on the heater/ac. Does all the tools come in the kit or you have to run around town looking for them? Probably not a good investment. Just throw some paint on them and move on. Letters not all that important.
FAKE the peeling is photo-shoped 0:26 compare the damage on the power button and 1 the bottom left corner peel has 2 points down, they both look exactly the same with minor edits. just compare the 2 buttons

Seems like the stickers would be much more useful if manufactured ready to install.
Following this video instruction was so much fun I did it to all of my cars and all of my friends' cars as well!
i did all that then i ran out of people so i simply went to parking lot and offered my services for free it was a blast!
lol@@e36fanatics
Cool now I just gotta practice on my patience and steadiness of a heart surgeons hands and I’ll be able to turn the volume up on my radio
The finished product actually looks good
Excellent work, I see this could be performed on vintage/classic car radios where replacement buttons aren't available or if a multiple set of buttons need this repair

EASY REPAIR??
Man now you gotta redo the aux button cause you got so close to it with the heat gun! LoL That looks like a good product you have there
Step 1: Do not mask around button to guarantee that you damage everything in the surrounding area when you sand down old button.
Looks like you need real steady hands for this!
A good five or six of the buttons on my GM radio are worn out like that, so I'm gonna have to keep this in mind.
takes work, the results are amazing
I am impressed!!! Great job
Wow...you are incredible, good job 👍🏻

Nice video & good idea! We've got a cameo silhouette, so this would be super easy!
Will it hold up in the hot desert cities of So. Cali or Las Vegas, Phoenix and so on where it can get up to 160° inside the vehicle ?
I'd rather buy the program they used to photoshop those buttons.
Oh you know, maybe it's called Photoshop
My god i think i will buy a new radio before i would go through all that .
My god, I think you're lazy as hell and piss away your money because of it.

You got that right.. Who has the time for all that?
I have a Sony Stereo that was aggressively scrubbed on the face. I wish I could restore it to full glory!
I had a 2004 Volkswagen Touareg, and after 4-5 months almost ALL the buttons and switchgear was peeling and worn off. It was the main reason I got rid of it at 18 months 13000 something miles. Had this product been around back then, it would have been a different story.
My 2006 VW Tourareg's buttons have the same problem.
?? you got rid of a car because of that? lol thats sad
here for a touareg aswell lol
here for toureg as well thinking of purchasing one but this is the case with all the buttons inside
would be easier to put an "info" sticker on it and paint the rest of the button then remove the sticker to reveal the white "info" underneath. Easier and faster. Then that fancy brush you showed us is really useful
I have finals in 3 hours... why am I here?
you ever pass those finals bro?
It's getting close to 2021 did you ever pass your finals?
He's still taking the finals.
How many buttons should I do at a time -- before I apply blow dryer? My radio has about 20 buttons. Should I do one at a time, a few at a time, or the entire face?
Who did the music? It's Awesome!
"Easy repair" lol this is the most tedious option out there. No thanks id rather go to the junkyard and take them off some other car
Nice job !!
is it me.. or the first pictures look like photshopped wear?
Definitely but I don’t think he meant to deceive anyone he just wanted to explain. In the end you see him do the whole process and it actually comes out pretty good
very nice idea men,,thank you.
Why not just have small decals to apply over it????
illumination is the problem
@@e36fanatics Leds emit little to no heat.

Looks good, but worried about what the price is
But would this application work with the white background that is lighten up
How are the original lettering on the buttons made?
looks easy, nice
Adorei essa ideia...
The car end off todos nós OK?
creative skills
Easy repair? This is harder than getting a tattoo.
I was cussing in my head picturing myself try that.
They look great, but the kit for my truck is $80. Considering I only have two buttons bad, it's not a sound investment.
wakko gn it's been 3 years. How many buttons bad now?
Right?????????? lol
You prob just buy another radio for 80
Where do I buy these premade button words?
Besos Amazon
That's amazing!!!
Wow ,really ,this guy and his transfer tape. ..
Yeah , if the buttons are trashed , I'm sure the car ain't much better ..... I'd toss in an aftermarket head unit ...

cindy Borgard The automotive clear coat you mentioned or a thin layer of clear nail polish
Website is confusing. Do you have these for steering wheel and dash radio buttons on a 2010 mustang with sync?
Don’t worry about your mustang itl likely fall to pieces before the radio does being the fact they’re a piece of shit
I have a light dimmer switch that's needs to be restored. Are you for hire? These switches are not reproduced and hard to find ones for sale in good condition.
Use electrical tape and exacto
What about sticky buttons like my Maserati has ?
I have a 2006 envoy denali. I am looking for a nav radio graphic kit?
Nathan, what do you charge a customer for this service? And how much does a kit cost?
Jeff Kramer you can do it by yourself
Right, I know. What do you recommend that I charge a customer?
Jeff Kramer ohh now i understand lol well it depends if you have to order the decals and has to remove the radio you can charge 50...60 $. What about turn stocks?
It would be less painful to burn my own eyes out with the heat gun than go through all that
What about concave surfaces? i.e. not a flat surface.
The vinyl conforms to the curve of the surface.
looking for a button repair kit for my 2007 JEEP grand Cherokee any leads??
Think I'll put wrong info on buttons like, #37, dirt, flat, prune, blue, aunt, wisk, shin, etc.

Or........ Listen to this... YOU COULD BUY NEW BUTTONS!
you can't by just the buttons, you have to buy the whole module.

All that work and the lettering doesn't match the OEM lettering...the font is slightly bigger.
yeah check ebay for these decals i found them for 15 bucks
what if I don't need to replace the graphics?
ok, no need to be cranky there terry. just askin a simple question! wow!
I left at the microscope.....
Fucked the CD/AUX with the heat blower, off to the next button!! 🤦🏻♂️
youtube says I can watch it in fullHD...
cool
easy. yes.
you can tell the scratches are done with computer its all fake!!
Photoshopped, the guy is dodgy!
Alessia Aiello noticed the same thing lol
Poor video quality yes. But the method is not fake. Thats how interior buttons with lights work.
Agree. Looks like photoshopped spots
Adrian Ochsner if people last longer than 3 minutes before bailing out and commenting they will see the real thing.
You would need steady fingers
Watch that isopropyl eat the paint at 1:37
It would be easier to build a new head unit from the scratch...
I really need this for my yahoo radio where do I buy this?
Nah dude, just get a radio from the junkyard that isn't as fucked up and change the switches
It looks like the white is added with a computer editor. LOL WTF
Yeah thats too bad they did that. It is the process though. How lighted buttons look before they get factory stickers or paint
I fell asleep watching this
Throw the piece outdated shit in the bin, new stereo, DONE !
155lb for mr Nate Diazzzzzz

More like cover up
why is there fake peeling on pictures? :DDD

Kkkkkkkkkkk right
Looks like a big waste of time for a oem garbage radio!
Why not just buy a new radio with Bluetooth and auxiliary instead of going though all that and still having the same old shit radio with nothing
What a pain in the ass
The scratches on the buttons at the beginning of his are photoshopped...shame on you!!! Hope you are in jail1
If they are photoshopped it would only be to make a point. All I know is that I could use that product if it works as well as the video shows.
In the end he shows the whole process and it actually looks good
you cant photoshop a video
😃👈
