  • I discovered my biggest mistake after 2 years of using the Kemper Profiler Stage Amp. In this Kemper Profiler Stage review I show you how to setup and connect the amp the right way.
My biggest mistake was connecting a mono XLR out but not changing the setup from stereo to mono in the Kemper Rig Manager.
In the end of the video are some Kemper Profiles and sound examples of my Satriani and Vai rigs.
The Kemper Profiler Stage is the best amp I ever had. Now I love it!!!

small correction: there is no such thing as mono XLR. Stage has 2 types of outputs: XLR (3-pin) and TS (1/4" plug). Every individual output socket carries "mono" signal (just one channel). The difference is only in that XLR cables carry balanced signal, and TS cables carry unbalanced signal (but it is the same signal). When your Profiler was set to master mono - this means that L and R channels were summed together and the same signal was sent to both output sockets. You very well could have made the same mistake with balanced cables. Glad you sorted it out - Kemper is fantastic piece of gear.

thank you for that detailed explenation! Yah my default was that I just connected a mono cable but selected master stereo. Now its fine :)

One of the biggest problems with all the digital modellers etc. is, that many people don't tweak their sounds to the speaker system on the specific venue. They just make some presets at home and send it as a DI to the FOH no matter what speaker system it is. I have yet to experience an impressive and organic live guitar sound with any of the modellers. The modellers are also lacking in harmonic content due to digital processing. I have both Fractal and Neural DSP but always ends up with bringing my big pedalboard and tube amp to concerts.

yah that´s true, I love to practice and play with my kemper but it always feels like there must be a secret on how to feel like playing a tube amp. I think it´s a great opportunity but it can´t replace the good old tube

I've always used master stereo for main outs, with two XLR to the PA, and master mono to my Kemper PowerKab. To my PC I used S/PDIF, which is fully digital. But not all audio interfaces support it. I have not tried the new USB audio interface which came with OS 9... I am on Windows and they haven't created a native ASIO driver for it yet, and I don't need it yet...

I never tried SPDIF but heard that it should be the best connection

That´s great to hear! I hope it didn´t take you 2 years for realizing that!

Hi mate, just another thing, with your signal chain. It's much better not to run the outputs of the Kemper into a mixer, and then into the interface, from the outputs of the mixer. Go straight from the Kemper into the interface, using the XLR outputs. The reason is, that you are taking the Eq from the Kemper and then coloring it, and possibly phasing the two Eqs with the pots in that little Behringer mixer, (which are all very low-grade). Having said all that, I assume you are now using the USB Audio interface upgrade that Kemper did a few months back, in which case, your sound will now be a pure capture from the Kemper.

Thank you for your advice! I tested that and it was a bit better as well. The reason why I use a mixer is because I have skype classes and all these videophone platforms doesn´t support 2 channels of the audio interface. I can only use imput 1 for microphone and kemper :(

@@austrianpickingpower yes and the kemper is not a plug and play unit😁 Hear some soundsamples on my channel. For example: th-cam.com/video/F0rfUjca3dQ/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks again
    But I wanted to add
You don’t need a computer to make those adjustments
    Go to:
Kemper profiler Tutorials- Profiler Stage Overview (English)
At 12:17 in the video it explains how to make the output adjustments on the board screen and you do not need to hook up a computer
    Peace brother

Thanks for the advice - that will help a lot of people! For me it´s easier to set at the computer because there are so many knobs on that pedal board :P
