@@theonlyenicfanever5346 No, that might just be the lighting shining off the matte metallic surface. There was some minor odd reaction that occurred as I didn't wait long enough before applying the top coat, but no frosting.
I think the matt finish looks great out in the field, it looks more like a device you'd find being used everywhere like a pokeball. The glossy finish is pretty, but the gloss more reminds me of the pokeball toys.
For a nuzlock you could slowly fill a diorama with the dead pokemon and then have the ones that beat the elite four on a raised platform and be larger that the dead ones, with the dead ones surrounding them
That's a good idea! I was originally going to just make memorial statues of my fallen teammates but I might have to do the champion squad as well (those who survive lol).
I prefer the gloss! I love anything I can display that catches the light, and nothing catches it quite like a glinty candy paintjob! Plus it gives it that new car feel. The matte definitely gives you that brushed metal look, which I ALSO really like. It feels more anime accurate in comparison to the gloss. But lord my shiny brain begs for shiny
Also came here from reddit. The final product looks fantastic 👍🏼 The matte finish was the way to go, this is how I feel like the pokéball would look if it was taken straight out of the anime.
I like the mate on top, but I think the bottom would have been awesome staying glossy. Id be interested in a nuzlocke. Every time you lose a mon you could 3d print its final moment in battle. And for when you win the champion fight you print the final move they got you the win
Very nice video :) you could also show how the hinge thingy works. I've never seen one of them and it was very hard to make out in the video. Also maybe go over the file in blender first to smooth out the surface. You can see little polygonal squares all over the surface of the Pokéball. But all in all very well done - new sub!
Yeah, should have gotten a close up on it. I've never used Blender or done much of any 3D modeling, but that or sanding would have been an option, but I actually liked the polygonal pattern after priming and left it on purpose lol. Adds to the techy vibes. Thanks so much!
love it! kinda wish you sanded away the polygons as the paint really makes it pop. but as someone who also hates sanding, you did way more work than i would have done haha
Thanks! I noticed them after priming but it kinda looked good to me so I left them lol. Promise it wasn't a case of me not wanting to sand more, which often it is. Maybe next one I'll try the super smooth look and see how the paint looks on that!
@@AsimPaints an easy way to get rid of them without sanding is to just give the model a subdivision surface modifier in Blender, this will divide the faces and smooth the model.
Very cool! I've seen some others use this model in prints, and something cool they did is sand down the domes a little to remove the polygonal look, which is somewhat present on this one. I love the paint job you did on this, by the way!
Thanks! I actually considered sanding the polygonal texture after priming but i kinda thought they added a technological look lol. Plan on doing the same with the other balls in the future!
Love the nuzlocke idea, printing the fainted Pokemon could be like them coming to the real world to safety or something or they’d be like trophies of the Pokemon you used during the play through and a collection of all of them at the end would be really cool
I always thought it'd make more sense for the button of the pokéball to be connected to the top half rather than the bottom half, but it looks cool either way!
This is so cool! If you were to ever do a Nuzlocke, it’d be pretty cool to see you 3D print either every Pokémon that dies, or every Gym Leader’s ace depending on how it goes
so glad this got recommended to me, you’ve earned yourself a new sub. 😊 i love how the poke ball looks, would you consider making a beast ball? i think that would look cool. maybe put a light inside to give it that futuristic look.
Thanks, glad you found me! Hmm maybe eventually, if I did a video on all of them or something like that. I never played gen 7 or the beast balls. Good idea though!
If you do end up playing a unlocke, I suggest either Ultra Violet or AlteRed. Ultra Violet has all Pokemon from the first three generations, and AlteRed has custom Pokemon with new typing, such as water Charmander, fire Bulbasaur, and grass Squirtle
Thanks for the suggestions! My first nuzlocke ended up being Emerald Crest, as I love gen 3 but wanted some variety in Pokemon it provides. Video should be up next week! And while the custom Pokemon sounds super cool, I would need to be able to find existing 3D print models to actually print out for the challenge.
looks pretty great, but why go through all that trouble on a model where you can very clearly see that the resolution is too low? 😭 This could have looked amazing if it wasn't for the visible stepping of the faces
I actually thought it played well into the techy look of the pokeball so I left it in. I personally like it but I'll try smoothing it out completely next time.
@@AsimPaints Hmm, didn't consider that it could have been on purpose 🤔. In that case maybe going the other way and making the steps even bigger/more visible might be a thing to try, if you're going for that look.
@MrNordi999 that's kinda what I was thinking I would like to do haha. Unfortunately, the support marks on the back of the shells are so bad that the sanding also removes those patterns so it's a bit uneven. Idk, end of the day it's just for fun!

beautifully done! any tips on -how to mask and paint cos i have went thru uneven masking lines before -paint peeling after masking over previously done paint cheers and godspeed 🙌🙌
Thanks! You want to only mask after the paint has had enough time to fully cure. So if you're using acrylics, 24 hours should be good. Lacquer I'd give two days. And enamel I'd give maybe three or four. This will help preventing paint from peeling. You also don't want to use generic masking tape. The adhesive on those is too strong. Get some Frog Tape or Tamiya brand hobby masking tapes. Even then, some people will weaken the adhesive a bit by sticking it on and off a clean surface before applying it to the part they want to mask. And when removing the tape, either do it like ten minutes after you're done painting or wait the full day or so to let the paint cure. Don't do it in between. Then of course, pull it slowly, trying to angle it so that it's "cutting" the paint as you pull it. Also, consider using silly putty for weird shapes! It works really well.
It's a pretty cool model they made but... surely the button should be on the red half 🤔 it definitely was on the anime (it's a long time since I've watched it, but I was pretty obsessed as a kid). Anyway, nice video 👍
0:13 the pokeball is in fact more iconic than superman. The pokemon franchise is so well known in fact that it is the highest grossing media franchise of all time with a total of $88 billion USD while the first DC property is Batman, coming in 11th place at $26.9 billion USD with superman coming in 55th with $6.9 billion USD. And while yes, that is only the amount of money each has made… I think a gap that big is more than just about monetisation and probably has a lot to do with being iconic and popular.
Idk, I'm not trying to make the case the Superman symbol is more iconic necessarily... but it might be lol. Financial success doesn't mean too much. If you ask all those consumers of pokemon if they recognize the Superman symbol, they'd say yes. If you ask some random person from a third world country if they recognize either, chances are they are more likely to recognize the Superman symbol. I'm not dying on this hill lol, I'm just saying it's not as evident to me the Pokeball symbol is more "iconic".
