Thanks Marcus! Mad patience is right. This thing took many iterations to work out all the kinks with some tests taking upward of 2 hours. I think I spent 10-20 hours just watching this thing fly up and explode lol.

I believe it still counts, considering that the mods he used were only quality of life ones. He still used stock parts, physics, and solar system, which is perfectly fine.
NeedsMoreBoosters well the space craft doesn't need to carry as much fuel and stuff to weigh it down if you use a catapult. It would be a great idea irl if we could actually make a strong enough catapult

this is literally the single most KSP thing i have ever seen..... and i log my game hours in the thousands, and have been watching its content since the first months of its public access. equal parts insanity, over engineering, challenge, creativity, and excellence. Hats off to you friend, I would never have believed this was stock possible if i did not witness it with my own 2 eyes.
Robbie Callaghan same here, I was watching content WAY before I purchased the game, and played the demo version for I don’t know how long, and then came that holy day on the 10 of october, 2013, when I little 10 year old me finally bought the full version, which back then 24 usd was around 16 euros for me, I didn’t know of the existence of steam back then, but I do remember that the ‘now on steam trailer’ from KSP came out after I bought the game, so I have nowhere to actually see how long I’ve played this game, but well over 3000 hours is just a guess that assumes me literally playing everyday, and that was the case, for a few years playing probably at least 2 hours a day, sometimes maybe even 3 or 4, and I did that for a few years, and then came the end of 2016, after which I only really played for short times after new updates came out, but I’ve just recently picked up on the game again, seriously this dwarfs all of my accomplishments combined in all of my time playing...

Congratulation master, you always manage to make the perfect balance between craft design, flight skills and video editing. This makes you the only and true God of KSP, bravo.

This video still makes me a bit emotional. Everything up to the toss into orbit is just perfect, the music matches perfectly, how it all builds up, and the function of this machine isn't truly revealed until that one moment.. it's just beautiful

Thanks! Honestly, I'm not sure why more people don't use ion engines with batteries. They are the best way to get more TWR out of the ion engines (unless you run them for a very long time or use them in the inner kerbol system).

Ike's orbit is not precisely equatorial or circular, but Ike is so freaking huge in proportion to Duna, solar eclipses must happen often. Ike and Duna are also mutually tidally locked, so it's possible part of the planet experiences a solar eclipse every day. +1 reason to build a base on Duna.
As soon as I saw the insanely long pole and counterweight guessed what you might be planning, but I really didn't want to get my hopes up. I'm so glad you actually pulled it off, it was so cool.
Amazing use of the calm part of the song! Not only does it leave us wondering "There is half of the video left, what's he gonna do?" but it gives the viewer a good 5-10 seconds to just think about the incredible feat that was just accomplished! Not only is this a simply incredible craft, but the showcase video is a masterpiece!

Thanks! This project took a long time to make. Not sure when I started, but I've been working evenings and weekends on this project for ~2 months. It didn't help that each launch took ~2 hours to perform and I had a couple failures during the final spin up. So right there, thats 10-20 hours of watching it get up to altitude, then exploding and watching the debris pepper the KSC.
Pour one out for the launch mechanism which heroically sacrificed its self when it decoupled the manned primary stage. Instantly applying the full force of the counterweight (which is of course the same force able to send the next stage to orbit) to it and shedding itself. Also if you decoupled the counterweight at the same time would the quadcopter be recoverable??? That would send the weight towards kerbin where it could probably survive with just some parachutes (tho why you didn't use one on the return eludes me (prob just for the drama))
Bah! Rockets only need a way to heat up their reaction mass! Point a big enough maser at the bottom of anything at all, and it will turn into an electric rocket without you even needing to do any engineering work.
How'd you maintain rigidity on the booms holding the craft and what I assume to be a counterweight to the quadcopter potion? I'd think anything cantilevered that far would turn to spaghetti as soon as physics loaded.
Basically, Autostrut + Oretanks. The ore-tanks on the central column provide auto strut nodes for all the parts on the booms. Also, since the booms are made of a fairing and thus only 1 part, it is perfectly rigid and does not flex. I'll have a craft file uploaded sometime today if you're curious to look at it.
my first thought: Holy Crap! I thought I was awesome when I built a big honking Rhino engine powered Voyage look-alike monstrosity in Kerbin orbit, got it to Duna, landed 3 guys and got them back to Kerbin. well done, my friend, well done.
Both camera work and engineering are fantastic. This made me think how smart and creative a lot of people are, we only need to have a material and tool to do our best. (I also did some challenges and won a couple, but never went that extreme, let alone shoot a video like this.)
This looks even more difficult than the first time I finally got into orbit. Seriously though, this is the best KSP video I've ever seen. Just floored by it.
Literally the coolest thing i've ever seen. Not only is this a Kerbin > Duna > Kerbin interplanetary ship using nothing but Xeon, but you used a drone-copter and a catapult to get it there.
Dude, you just build an interplanetary rocket, launched by a freakin Space Catapult, wich is being carried by a Quadrocopter. This is beyond awesome!

How'd you maintain rigidity on the booms holding the craft and what I assume to be a counterweight to the quadcopter potion? I'd think anything cantilevered that far would turn to spaghetti as soon as physics loaded.

Basically, Autostrut + Oretanks. The ore-tanks on the central column provide auto strut nodes for all the parts on the booms. Also, since the booms are made of a fairing and thus only 1 part, it is perfectly rigid and does not flex.

I thought I was awesome when I built a big honking Rhino engine powered Voyage look-alike monstrosity in Kerbin orbit, got it to Duna, landed 3 guys and got them back to Kerbin. well done, my friend, well done.
Idea: 3 or 4 Astroids put together and build on them a spaceport and refuelling station to build ships and research and mine pls like so he sees it

Both camera work and engineering are fantastic. This made me think how smart and creative a lot of people are, we only need to have a material and tool to do our best. (I also did some challenges and won a couple, but never went that extreme, let alone shoot a video like this.)

Not only is this a Kerbin > Duna > Kerbin interplanetary ship using nothing but Xeon, but you used a drone-copter and a catapult to get it there.
