Elon started talking about a 25k Tesla in 2018, since then the Dollar has lost 18% of it's value so it would be nearly 30k today.
Even if inflation calms down, it will never have the value of 2018 again.
So no, there will not be a 25k Tesla.

I don't believe we'll truly see the "model 2" (the 25k Tesla) for quite a long time. With the Cybertruck, Roadster, and Semi on the horizon, and the work being done for Optimus (Tesla bot), FSD, and so on, they seem like they have their hands full. Couple that with supply chain issues as is AND the sheer volume of sales they're swimming in, seems like a long, long wait.
I would love to see it happen though. Even the Model 3 has become increasingly expensive and has priced out a lot of people I know who were on the fence about getting one.

There's clearly room in the market for both a dedicated robotaxi and a more affordable small EV. As for eliminating the steering wheel and pedals, it's a good long term goal, but FSD needs to prove itself first. Eventually, the car's cheapest configuration could be without driver controls, and for owners who do want them, they'd cost extra.

The Tesla model 3 was unveiled in April 2016. Prices mentioned at that time can’t be expected to be held 6 years later. Average 6% annual inflation for 6 years on 35 grand would bring us fairly to todays price so the price is still more or less effectively 35 grand when adjusted for inflation. The 25 grand car first mentioned about 3 years ago with a higher average inflation rate since then would now be over 30 grand.

Really don’t feel like putting $40k plus down for an vehicle and I drive mostly in the city so don’t need larger range. I was personally holding out how for a Mini Cooper refresh next year with 200 mile range (but that looks to be delayed until 2024)as I think that is the sweet spot for most drivers. I also think the minimalist design of the Tesla is a little too aggressive for my liking but I have never driven in one so that is just from watching other videos.

They've prolly been taking 5~10% batteries from each and every model just so they can make more cars to ease the demand. This explains why EVERY model crosses the board all losing the range while prices are going up. So, let's forget 25, 35g teslas, ain't gonna happen, bro!

We could be oil-independent and we easily have the infrastructure to avoid the fuel crisis until we can get EVs mass produced. Biden made gas prices what they are by keeping us artificially dependent on foreign oil.
Corporations will get their profits regardless. Biden raises corporate taxes, they pass ALL of it onto us. They don't just "absorb" those increased costs.
Dealer markups are similar. Dealer sells 200 cars/month and makes 250k profit to pay rent and employees and bills. Dealer now only sells 100 cars due to supply constraint and has higher bills due to current environment. Now has to make 275k on those 100 cars to cover bills. Can't blame them for trying to keep the lights on.
Fix your car. Wait it out a year or so longer. It is what it is.

Maybe but I don’t think it will be what people think. If you look at Apple as an example their SE iPhones are old revamped models and are wildly successful. I suspect Tesla will go the same way - they will introduce new 3/Y type models with more advance batteries/range/performance and then relaunch the older models at a lower price later. My estimate is this won’t be for at least 5 years. In the meantime there will undoubtedly be cheaper models from China but these will be inferior and there will be unbelievable demand for a $25,000 (at todays prices) 3/Y as it will be a true Tesla. I think the Robotaxi will be a completely different line.

any company thats going to try and surpass tesla in making ev's is going to have to ramp production even more so than tesla is, gm may make more vehicles than tesla did in 2021 in 2025, but building to scale is hard, more competition is always a good thing however.

  • @roywells4321
    @roywells4321 ปีที่แล้ว

I understand tesla's/Elon's approach to scaling up and the feasibility of $25k ev. Tesla got a little caught off guard when companies like gm intentionally tried to supply constrain tesla early on (and somewhat continues), but tesla weathered that and learned a lot during the model 3 ramp. Good job tesla!!! One demographic I don't see being considered in all of this is college students. They are far more aware of the benefits of evs and are the much of the backbone of future car purchases. The biggest concern for my kids while away at school was the trips home and back. I would have felt much better if they had been in a tesla, hands down! My oldest and youngest developed brand loyalty based on their college cars. That is changing because we bought teslas; my oldest has now purchased a model 3 and loves it, and my youngest still loves her car but mostly only drives one of the teslas because of gas prices (she emotionally attaches and resists changing like many of us).
A $25k tesla (or cheaper) would be a godsend to many, many parents and young adults. A 300+ range (to minimize stops to enable avoiding more secluded tesla chargers when driving the highway at night), all wheel drive for the elements, ample trunk space and a solid autopilot would have saved some gray hairs and possibly a few of my lost life years from worrying.
My kids are grown and either joining or immersed in the workforce now. But I remember so clearly and vividly those trips to and from school, staying up all night, waiting on a call anytime they stopped for gas, a bathroom break, food, etc., or just to talk to them while they drove to make sure they didn't get sleepy.
I don't believe the current economy is conducive to a $25k tesla. But as we say, that too shall pass.

We won't see a $25K Tesla unless and until A) inflation cools down, B) Tesla's sales cool down, and C) they start facing some real competition from another auto maker. As it currently is, they are selling cars faster than they can produce them and selling them at (frankly) insanely high prices. So it makes no sense to devote production and design resources into a car that will be a huge seller, but at a lower margin while their higher margin cars are flying off the lot.
I'd love to be wrong, and maybe the combination of fully-ramped-up factories, full autonomy solved, and supply chain issues sorted would make such a low-price car viable. But that is a lot of things that have to go right.
