This is very interesting. Actually, many of the Asian tigers like Taiwan, Korea, Japan and China did land redistribution too. According to the book How Asia Works, it's a primary reasons for their rapid economic development (along with manufacturing exports). I think all of India should do land redistribution as well.

As a man from Kerala, yes we are really proud about our achievements in the field of education and health. However, the biggest problem still exists, which is unemployment. Until we tackle that problem we can never be properly developed (we might be comparatively more socially developed than some other states, but calling Kerala a proper developed state is immature). And we also have to make use of our tourism sector more.

One of the prominent reason Kerala's high unemployment rate is because no body is not ready to do yellow collar jobs here most of us are focusing on going abroad and making money now . Now a days many of the middle class even poor are focusing on sending children to migrate to Europe or other western countries, just like in Punjab. What's different in Kerala from all other states of India is our rural and urban areas are equally educated and developed. There are lot's of things which helped kerala such as Large coastline beautiful weather, presense of Christianity (leads to schools within in 0-2 km ),Soviet ideologies, high wage,Land reform, public health care.Due to all this factors castism is at it's lowest religious riots are very rare .That's why religious politics doesn't work in Kerala even though many are trying to do.Ease of doing business and industrialistion it matters but education creates opportunity of going any where we want that's why we can see Malayalees every where. There are still many things needs to change in Kerala but i think many states in India can make kerala a ideal choice for development.

Hearing the word kerala is enough for right wingers to loose their minds. I need to point out some things here .
1.Most points mentioned here are quite accurate .
    2. If people are trading off their religion for a better life I don't see a problem in it.
Afterall these are mere myths. 500 years from now religion will become a thing of past . Also Christianity in Kerala is quite old . It's a unique version which evolved with the state .
    3. Isis / Islamic radicalism is an international phenomena. Many foreign fighters have joined Isis - it says something about the failure of intelligence in the state and country . Beyond that Isis fighters hardly indicate anything about development of the state . Germany has more Isis fighters than Congo . Does that mean Congo is more developed than Germany ?
I genuinely fail to see the connection between religion and development of a state .

The education rate excelled in Travancore and cochin was because of Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara. He ordered that all churches in Kerala should start a school alongside in church compound and allow people of all caste and religion shall be permitted to learn their. This order was issued to Syrian catholic churches during 1870. He also started mid day meal system to feed school kids. This project was later adopted by Travancore state government.

Travancore kingdom declare education free and universal in 1817 - this is about modern education but all over Kerala traditional system was available like Ezhuthupallis, (Pial Schools) Kalari (Military training schools) and Vedic (Sanskrit) schools - almost free . However real education to the mass happened after 1957 only - accurately between 1970-2010, once the state govt. succeeded over managements of schools collages started after 1945- put under the control of govt. (full list of the schools since 1872 avilable - can identify the number of schools by churches ) Not Chavara Rev. but Jospeh Mudaserry (CPM) should be respected. Now large amount of data available with much better analytical tools using data base would help people to explore what is the contribution OF state govts - and the issues & resistance from churches for free education to all.

@@technow7992 The plan of Joseph Mundassery was to take over existing schools which were running alongside churches. Erstwhile Cochin and Travancore, every church had a school. Such schools are either government schools or aided schools. Joseph Mundassery wanted to bring them under direct government control. Being a communist his intentions were based on socialist principles. But my point is, there were well established schools even before communist government of 1957. They were well maintained by the concerned management's. People of all caste were permitted there.

Kerala is no doubt topping the charts in terms of education and healthcare but Kerala is also topping the chart in high suicide rates, difficulty in doing business, unemployment and low happiness index.
As a Malayali, something I observed only in Kerala is resistance to growth and crab mentality due to which capable people who wish to grow in life, never settle in Kerala. People are surely evolved but their energy is never channelized in a productive way, rather they use it to pull each other down.
We witnessed one such instance with the Kitex Group's exit from Kerala where the owner was constantly harassed by intolerant Malayalis.

Business people might find it challenging to establish their Company because the Govt is strict regarding labour welfare. This is the only State where daily wages is Rs.1000/- Also the topography also should be taken into consideration. Otherwise, Kerala is business friendly with availablity of skilled workforce. The case of Kitex is different. This organisation was started in by MC. Jacob in the year 1968. They have been working well without any hassles, even after the demise of MC.Jacob his wife Anna looked into business matters. Once their son, the present CEO took over the business empire, his ambition to enter politics took things into murky waters. There was issues with workers being paid less, this created a stand off between him and the State Govt. To save his face, he left Kerala and is now busy trying to establish his Company in Telangana.

    • @00B13
      @00B13 ปีที่แล้ว

@@likhisuryan7201 The issue of workers being paid less in Kitex is grossly misunderstood. The garment industry is one of the lowest paid jobs in the world due to textile MNCs competing with each other using African and Asian countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam. Not only that Kitex provides highest wages by the industry standards but also one the top salary providing company in the state (Kitex is also a company holding the record for being the biggest employer in the state). This has been testified by the videos uploaded by the employees themselves.
The two dominant parties in Kerala makes big money from corruption in Kerala. These parties became furious with Kitex funded party "Twenty20" showing to public how much a place can change if there is no corruption. If public realizes that then these corrupt parties will run out of business. So they simply attacked the Kitex company and forced him to leave Kerala.
By the way, when you talk about labour welfare and wages being the best in Kerala, you have to see the problem here. Majority of the youth are depressed in Kerala and having one of lowest salaries for white collar jobs compared to other states in India. Kerala is now breaking the record for youth escaping from the state. The high daily wages of INR 1000 you talk about is due to demand from shortage of blue collar workers in the state. It is not because of labour welfare.

    Good points,
Just to add, Kerala unlike other states also didn't focus on a single city to drive its economy. By not putting all of its eggs in one basket and choking a city, it made sure the state had an equitable distribution of infrastructure and facilities across the state. So its true that we didn't create a Mumbai or Hyderabad, but it surely lead to a much lower urban rural disparityin the country. By which today we can identify Kerala almost to be a megalopolis of it's own, with anyone having basic and necessary amenities within the reach.
Secondly the land / environmental aspect of Kerala is not suitable for industries that otherwise functions elsewhere in India, especially the polluting ones. Having said that the state definitely need to focus mainly on Tourism and on Science, Education, Research, IT etc .Thirdly, Keralites (in general) irrespective of cast and creed have been living in harmony which is significant in terms of social progress.
Kerala does have its fair share of issues to be improved and is far from perfect. But the idea that Kerala or any particular state should follow the rest of India is counter productive.

I have a huge gripe with rhe Kerala model:
    1. This video misses to mention the rise of trade is what elavated Ezhava and Syrian Christian communities. Manu Pillai's book "Ivory throne" covers this quite extensively. It's economics that guided the social reforms not the other way around. The implication of this is profound.
    2. Missed to mention that remittances is what is sustaining the expensive health and education sectors. There is an inverse correlation.
    3. The nature of Kerala's heath and education sectors are not elaborated on. They are widespread and basic(literacy and first aid). They do not empower the average Malayalee to the same degree as rest of the country. We can see Mallus going to Uttar Pradesh(BHU and AMU specifically) for their graduation. 30% of Colleges in Bengaluru(my city) is Malayalees. Further, for specialized medication and treatment, they have to either rely on Amma's free hospitals or go to Coimbatore very specifically, not the state health infrastructure. This begs the question why this is happening if there is a government that "invests" into Health and Education? Shouldn't the flow be reverse, as in Kannadigas flocking into Kerala for education and Tamilians visiting Kerala for healthcare?
    4. This video much like the ideological research (researchers not the channel is to blame) skirts away from the strong correlation of communist/socialist govt and lack of jobs. If this was a right wing govt and the subject was communal violence, the correlation would be highlighted significantly( correctly in my opinion). Also, there seems to be inordinate pride that there are Bengalis and UP/Biharis coming in for manual labour and construction jobs. Let me rephrase, The state with the highest HDI is taking pride about migration not of talent, but manual labour.
    5. Drawing on the last point there is a huge ideological bias both with Mallus in their education stream and left leaning research which has especially picked up to contrast the Kerala model with the "Gujarat model". In my personal experience, Mallus are so indoctrinated by the education and society around them that they cannot differentiate between criticism of the way a state is run( an expensive basic system funded by Gulf remittance) and hatred for Mallus. They have made it a part of their identity to the point, asking why the most literate state is seeing a movement of talent to seek graduation and jobs to even Uttar Pradesh, is seen as Xenophobia or regional chauvinism. Not a question of efficiency of the model. Secondly, there is cabal of research that seeks to hype up the HDI achievement of Kerala model for ideological reasons without accounting for differences in the states of Gujarat and Kerala and their subjective paths. To elaborate, Gujarat has one of the highest(within top 3) population percentages of tribal and part time agrarian demographics, a tenuous border with Pakistan, a history of partition, severe water shortages and an upper class that values business over education. While Kerala is an extreme diverse mix, never had partition, has no international border, an upper class that had already experienced modernity and valued education due to it. The solutions are going to be different.
    6. This is an Indian problem(even in private sector) not limited to Kerala, that is metric gaming. Aka valuing metrics over impact. Kerala tops every metric but the effect of those metrics is not questioned. Most literate state but no world class education institute, highest ranked for healthcare but no world class research, not even a single best in class hospital even in South India. They even won the best startup program in India, why are all the startups located in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and even Gurugram ffs. Gaming metrics does not make a good employee, good marks do not mean a good student and good HDI does not mean a good governance model.

This is exactly what China have done and they have been very successful in doing so. But unlike China democracy should be embraced instead of authoritarianism. Kerala is in a phase we are transitioning from communism to capitalism although it seems to be taking much longer than what was initially expected. This is a state that is just brimming with potential, more so than any other state in my opinion, its just a matter of harnessing it. Hopefully, the ruling party at the center takes notice of this and tap into it, it would not only result in economic growth of both Kerala and India but also increase the popularity of the BJP in the state. Its a win-win for everyone.

Telangana doesn't have but they perform in business grounds. KITEX issue - Telangana promised shipping cost different state will pay - (Off course - Kerala's political stand in India Industrial growth won't be converted to social development but only good for rich. Only people intervention can change !)

Two things to learn from Keral model
-> Healthcare and education provides the best return
