My dad had all his records, and played his music. Dad bought a 1955 Martin D-28 that he gave to me on my 16th birthday in 1971. Unfortunately, the guitar didn't make the journey with me. It was smashed by Eastern Airlines in a baggage compartment. Even though I was 19 years old, and in the Navy then, I cried like a baby. I was sick. Anyway, dad and me, and then my brother would play his music at get-togethers. Dad eventually bought a D-35, a D-35-12 string, and then the ultimate D-45 that's still in the family.
Absolutely the greatest the one I listen to most of my life and I still listen to him every week just because of the records and tapes that I still have I’m 87 years old Jerry Mcdonogh
Way down in little old New Zealand back in the 50's, my father played Hank Snow records all the time. I grew up loving his music. I'm 73 now and nothing has changed.....Rest in Peace Hank.
I AM AN ULTA ARTIST IN MANY WAYS AND RESPECT WHAT IS TRULY GOOD. HANK SNOW WAS ONE OF MY VERY, VERY FAVOURITE SINGERS. HIS VOICE RESONATED THE TRUE FEELINGS OF HIS SOUL. HIS VOICE WAS SO UNIQUE, SO BEAUTIFUL. HE WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF, IF NOT THE MOST PLEASING VOICE IN SONG . I DON'T EVEN HAVE TO HEAR HIS NAME.....IT'S HIS UNIQUE SINGING VOICE THAT I HEAR. NO ONE YET EVER HAD A SINGING VOICE LIKE HAND SNOW.
Oh gosh in the late 60’s we enjoyed Hank’s music here in Sri Lanka Actually he would speak to us on air during Christmas for many years wishing us Christmas greetings ! We from that era miss him dearly and continue to enjoy his music even now! May he RIP
I saw Hank Snow at Dorton Arena at the North Carolina State Fair when I was in high school fifty years ago. He has been one of my favorites ever since. I'll never forget him.
Been a big Hank Snow fan since I first heard him on a transistor radio singing "The Face on the Barroom Floor" about 1968. He's my favorite story teller, and he had a bunch of great story telling songs. I didn't know he ran away at 12 and worked on a fishing boat, and that makes me appreciate his music even more, he's got some serious cred!
A remarkable man. Saw him at the Opry, a legend. Thankfully he never lost his voice. Rip Hank. Picked up a large collection of his albums in a charity shop in Birmingham. They are brilliant.
In1960, I was an English man, working in an Auto trim shop in Toronto with two guys from Nova Scotia. They had a cassette of Hank Snow, that they played at least two times every day. An introduction to country music, which I’m so thankful for.
Hank's amazing determination and lovely music and singing gave all the folks I knew great joy listening to him and his group. One real hero of the Country Scene - and a Hero to all nationalities - Thank You Hank you gave wonder to the music scene........
What a great video detailing Hank's life. And the TV News tributes at his passing. I have the book and what an interesting read for any Hank Snow fans. Not mentioned in the book is that Hank lived with my ex's family in New Brunswick when he got the job playing 1/2 hour daily for 2 years on CKNB in Campbleton. The story goes that uncles John & Charlie McGarvie introduced Hank to station manager Stan Chapman. Two year old Jimmie lived in Liverpool at the time. I have a photo of Hank with John & Charlie outside their house. A treasured possession of mine.
I listen to all kinds of music. Hank Snow was true art. Like all good lyricists (Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits etc), he paints a mental picture in your mind with his lyrics.
Love The Singing Ranger. Great Tribute Video 👍 what a Life He and his family lived. One big takeaway from watching this-Hank Snow was a Salt of the Earth Humble Gentleman❤️ RIP Hank. -I Still have his 1st 4-5 Original Albums and -a framed 1950’ B/W 8x10” RCA Promo photo signed by the singing Ranger himself in my Music Room--one of my Treasures 🇺🇸
A message for anyone who has experienced the same type of abuse and poverty as a child, look at what you can achieve if you put your mind and body into it.
When I was a young guy, the guys my Dad's age would say when someone kind of left suddenly, "He pulled a Hank Snow. " I remember asking my Dad about that and it was because of the song " I'm moving on". I thought that was so cool.
Just saw the Elvis movie. It was good but he was portrayed poorly by a director who clearly didn't have a decent knowledge for the music of Elviss time. Snow was an energetic performer and a ground breaker in country music. Not some throw away hokey carnival act.
Great life story and he did not want to be a victim how nice that sounds, now everyone claims to be a victim and proud of it even rich and famous people claim victim hood and they use it to do anything and get by with it.
@Samuel Nowe Stompin' Tom wrote that Snow treated him like dirt. JP Cormier says the same thing about when he met him in Nashville. And those are both guys who came up pretty damn hard.
1 of the greatest singers and guitar players of all time and song writer

In 1968, I ran a light show for Mr. Snow when he played at our high school. I was very fortunate to meet him. He was an absolute gentleman.

I remember when he died December 1999 WSM played his music all day.
A Canadian country music pioneer, thank you for posting this valuable archival footage.

This is wonderful. Enjoyed the clip of him and Wilf Carter talking about their careers.
I think he married a Carter!
Hank Snow is awesome.
A message for anyone who has experienced the same type of abuse and poverty as a child, look at what you can achieve if you put your mind and body into it.

I'll have to get that book. I didn't know he authorized an autobiography. Fantastic.
God bless Hank Snow❤️
As a Nova Scotian, I knew less than I should have.
When I was a young guy, the guys my Dad's age would say when someone kind of left suddenly, "He pulled a Hank Snow. " I remember asking my Dad about that and it was because of the song " I'm moving on". I thought that was so cool.
Great story!! Thanks for sharing this with us.
such a colorful character
C.E. Snow, only one Hank Snow. Legend.
Just saw the Elvis movie. It was good but he was portrayed poorly by a director who clearly didn't have a decent knowledge for the music of Elviss time. Snow was an energetic performer and a ground breaker in country music. Not some throw away hokey carnival act.
Words fail me! "Train songs" will do, Id love "One More Ride"!
Very cool
Great life story and he did not want to be a victim how nice that sounds, now everyone claims to be a victim and proud of it even rich and famous people claim victim hood and they use it to do anything and get by with it.
Interesting that Ray Charles started doing country because that was where the stories were.
It never really touched a note but in his autobiography Hank described an encounter with aliens. Seems trendy now...
Aliens lmfao
From what I have read, he was a great performer, but a real miserable so and so with his band members and even at time his fans.
Katon Robert's was with him near 30 YEARS. Chubby Wise was with him a long time as well. So your info is hearsay?.
@@packingtenNothing I can substantiate. He has been mentioned in biographies of other musicians as being a little hard to ge t along with.
@Samuel Nowe Stompin' Tom wrote that Snow treated him like dirt. JP Cormier says the same thing about when he met him in Nashville. And those are both guys who came up pretty damn hard.
