M109 refers to the shop van on back,not the truck itself, the truck is a M35A2

Actually, I belive the proper nomenclature is "2-1/2 ton 6x6 M44A2 Series Truck", with this particular example being outfitted as an M109 Shop Van. The M35A2 version of the M44A2 series is outfitted as the more prevalent, cargo/troop carrier truck.

The M109A3 was built by Kaiser Jeep and Kaiser Jeep for the most part had slate grilles and their headlights below the hood near the bumper.This truck is probably a M185A3,which is the same vehicle,but built by AM General.
After 1970,they all look the same.
