ALMOST a mile of rubbish and detritus has been dumped in Purfleet.
The sea of filth has been dumped on wasteland called Cory's Wharf across the road from Purfleet railway station.
It took the YT reporter almost twenty minutes to walk the full length of the fly-tipped mile.
Some of the rubbish contains correspondence and documentation from areas across the country.
It would appear that Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle Price is linking the fly-tipping with an alleged illegal encampment nearby.
A comment on her twitter feed which had a picture of fly-tipping attached said: "Hmm @EssexPCC thinks MPs are exaggerating reports of antisocial behaviour at unauthorised traveller sites?
A spokesperson for Thurrock Council said: "Thurrock Council is aware of the situation on land it owns in Purfleet and is working with partners in the police and the Environment Agency to tackle this issue, bring the perpetrators to book and recoup the clean-up costs - estimated to be in the thousands.
"The council will be investigating the site for toxic or otherwise dangerous material before any final decision on its removal is taken.
Wow what a load of rubbish.

Don't tell me the councils can't see this happening. There's just nowhere left for landfill for London's rubbish so they turn a blind eye.

These tippers must really scour maps or maybe use drones to find these areas. This one looks like a fly tippers paradise with built up ground all around it so from most viewing angles the general public wouldnt see it or the illegal activity. Snide.
They keep coming back and back until that whole area or lane is rammed. Hopefully councils are now more switched onto the modus operandi of fly tippers.
What a waste, all that wood and board, carpet, blocks, scrap metal. Could all have been useful to someone.
Hmm I think I drove out of the station as you were filming the sign at the beginning. I don't suppose you happened to film the spanner who saw fit to overtake me at high speed on the level crossing after I'd pulled onto the road?
