Meningomyelocele may also be called myelomeningocele, lipomeningocele and spina bifida. It is also related to sacral agenesis. These are all spinal cord abnormalities affecting the nerves to the bladder, bowel and lower extremities. The most common presentation of myelomeningocele is as an opening along the lower back and spinal cord at birth. Sometimes the skin is covered and the child may present with a hidden, or occult, spinal dysraphism. This section topic will provide introductory information regarding these diagnoses and their subsequent neurogenic bladder and neurogenic bowel.
Meningomyelocele lesions are thought to occur about once is five thousand births. They can occur in both boys and girls. They can occur by themselves, but are also sometimes related to other congenital abnormalities, often considered other midline abnormalities, such as anus, heart, tracheo-esophageal fistulas, kidneys, arms and limbs.

My son's birth date is 24.09.2013 and he born with same same problem and operated after 22 days of birth. Now He is very active as normal boy but his right leg is slightly normal and sensitive to cold and hot. he sit with band both leg. He stand with support. Arif Khan ok as a doctor let me tell u...u have to done a mri scan this is very important...after the spina difida minengocyle there r more chances have a teatherd cord syndrome which can cause paralysis of lower body loss of sensation of urine and bowl

Treatment is in our hand. Pl do your best. My son also had meligomylocele since birth. Did almost 13 operation. By God's grace he is better now

Rekha Soni As a doctor let me tell u....baby having spina bifida need surgery immediately after the birth with in one week and surgery is necessary to repair the spina bifida and save the new born kid from further problems...after some the babies having spina bifida have much more chances of the developing teatherd cord syndrome and this condition need surgery too if surgery will not done at the time the baby will lose the senses of his urination, left leg will become week, bowl sensation become week and many more neurological problems. So a neurologist I recommend u a mri scan which is very imp for ur kid
