As a headhunter, I really need to say this to all those who say that they want to gain ‘experiences’ and completely ignore the salary section.
Your first job is very important. If you earned 2.6k on your first job, you should estimate your second job to be around 2.9 to 3K. If your first job is 3K your second job should be around 3.4K. Company will not pay you more than 20% of your current salary. This is if you change job.
If you decide to stay, get ready for annual raise of less than 10%. In this pandemic situation it’s even worse. If you start with 2.5 k, it would take around 3-4 years before you reach 4K. A person with starting of 3K would take around 2 years. So choose wisely.
I am a fresh graduate myself and I really wanna encourage all fellow graduates to please not lower your standard just because society or others decide so.

Typical fresh graduate mentality. Take it from someone who has had 20 years of work experience, that difference between 2.6K and 3K in the first few years of career means nothing at all in the grand scheme of your career which will last 30 or 40 years. Yes a few hundred difference might seem huge for someone who has just started on their working life but it is nothing as your career progress. The key thing is choose a path you would like to do (and not be obsessed by how much your friend is earning more than you in a different path) and be very good at it. Being very good and passionate in something is what will make you to that 50K compared to 15K when in later stages of career.
And as a headhunter I hope you would learn by now that it is not true "a company will not pay you more that 20% of salary" when you change job.

In 1989 my dad told me the salary for fresh graduate for Diploma is Rm900 while Degree would start around Rm1500... I was really shocked... Everything had probably cost tripple in price in 2022 if you adjust for inflation (housing cost is worse) and yet, some employer would still say fresh grad 'demand too much' for just Rm2500... This is why Malaysia is facing severe brain drain..

I live in China, after I finished Master degree, I instantly got a job in a giant company, the base salary is 12,000 Ringgit per month, after I worked one and a half years, my salary increased to 16,000 Ringgit. BTW, I fininished my bachelor degree in Nottingham Malaysia. I guess the decision I made, I mean balik China , is correct.

Mechanical engineering guy want 5k? 😂 In reality that's senior engineer salary. Fresh grad don't have any specialty in the company yet which is hard to make a demand. Employers prefer send their old employees for further training courses to be professional in their departments. I learned that hard truth in my 19-23. Then i had to change my field to broaden my knowledge in order to be different than the other employees. "Its easy to replace employee but its hard to replace a specialist" - my boss said as a career advice if im planning on 'makan gaji' in a few years still

@Comandante Antonio 4k is average throughout the country irrespective of your experience level. If you are a freshies, then 4k and above is offered in a few companies only, ie, PETRONAS, Accenture, Mckinsey etc. Average fresh grads salary would be significatly lower than 4k, maybe at round 2.5k only.

I am getting slightly over RM 6k nett as my current salary.. in mid 30s... this is tough...really tough... if you have entrepreneurial dna in you just try do your own business... else... just consider move to SG or Australia... good luck to all the young generations

Nepotism is rampant in Malaysia. Connection and ass kissing will get you far in your career, not how qualified you are or how good at your work. Don't get me wrong, nepotism exist everywhere but in developed country like Singapore, you will never climb the corporate ladder of a listed company without having any merits.

To the girl who said getting into big four is already an achievement and salary is just a side note. I hope you see this, coz settling for a low pay will eventually set the course of you getting the inadequate increment for the role you’re in in the next few years. A promotion or changing jobs usually will only give you a 10-20% increment based on your current pay so think twice when you accept a lower pay. The reality is that, this a cut throat industry so don’t ever devalue yourself for the reason they are big four. If you know you’re good at what you’re doing and that’s not the market rate for the role, exercise your right to negotiate and demand for more.
