A military friend of mine, drove his Astro van from Great Falls MT, to Tampa FL, towing an older full sized Chevy pickup. Going thru the mountains had to be fun!

Astro van never was a typical mini van, rear wheel drive with a burly engine and drivetrain. He chose Chevy for all the right reasons. I'm a "car guy" and love that he knows every little detail of his truck.

(Honestly, I think she checked out his rig to get ideas for the replacement for the Wonder-Buggy. Will it be a VTOL Wonder-Jet, or the Wonder-Van? Even Captain America used a van to transport his motorcycle for a while!)
Very cool Astro van. My God you've done everything to it oh, that's a lot of time and work. I used to have a diesel Econoline E350 it holds two-thirds of my house in one trip, construction was trailer. Usually it would get better than 15 miles per gallon it also had an overdrive on the C6 hey, transfer case and was ready for front four by four diff. This was pretty much a bulletproof rig and you can buy them ready-made for about 25 or 30 k. He also had turbo on that 7.3, would pull any mountain with a load about 50. Lots of room yeah, that's the rig I would do again. Have fun love to see your adventures
I have converted a 99 Astro to a camper van. Mine is only 2wd sadly but I live in MI & it is still a work in progress! Would love to beef it up some day!! Love it!!!❤

Mike Z has good taste and thinking for minivan camping, great for single person camping! I had thought of buying a Chey 4x4 minivan like that! Ford Aerostar made a 4x4 minivan back in the 90s! I had a 1990 extended Aerostar Van with fold down seat to camp with and I camped all over the USA and parts of Vancouver, CN!

Message I'd for Minivan Mike. The van being that late of a modle, the systems (fuel, spark timing, transmission, all wheel drive, Yada Yada yada) will be controlled by an ECU. Some where in the programing of the ECU is tire size. Find a tuner / programmer
I did that - We were both in an altered state of mind so my MPG comment wasn't 100% accurate - Keeping in mind this is a heavily modified Astro with a 7" lift, 32" tires and a roof rack I got about 15mpgs from LA to Quartzsite, AZ - I get better on the east coast and worse in the mountains going up steep grades or in heavy head winds (just like any other vehicle)
Put a Lunati Voodoo 262/270 cam in it. Smooth idle & a nice torque boost. Works great on fuelie 4.3 engines. 🚚

I spent over 10 years of my life wheeling arounda Astro Van on a equipment service route in the SF Bay Area....Great vehicles one went 189,000 miles with only a transmission being an issue @ around 140K miles. GM made a HUGE MISTAKE discontinuing thae Astro Van when they did....They were selling over 100,000/year but, thats the past. The Hummer H3 was built on the Astro Van assembly line and I own one of these now. The H3 in 2009 could be had with a V8 and locking differential "Off Road" Adventure Package those are pretty good Expedition Rigs too.

Hey, I have an old ass 2004 Jeep Liberty… not super manly, you see a lot of woman and older people drive them, but I love it and have had zero major issues with it, just a few minor things that in total has cost me less than $1,000 over 19 years and it still runs perfectly!!

I have a 1985 B150 Dodge van all set up, and has tools, food bank, stove, bed run is fast van, with a 383 motor, gets 10 mpg in city, highway 14. Had it for five years, still working on some of body work, running, and transition all been rebuild. Hope you in joy pictures of my van

You need a short wheel base low top 4x4 diesel sprinter... I have the same but a 2wd 2006. It gets 24mpg, runs like new at almost 300k...
