    Hoi!
    I live in The Netherlands for 7 months now. I'm totally positively shocked about this country and it's people.
    I love it here, I love all the people, I love how nice and relaxed everyone here is. I don't mind weather, because my country has got similiar weather and also I believe that one's attitude is more important than the weather, so with the right mindset you won't let weather affect you that much :-)

      Ah that's nice! I am also not worried about the weather because we have got about 5 months of snow in Canada so Dutch weather is really mild :)

    I think foreigners that think that the Dutch are rude are mostly people that didn't stay very long. A lot of people directly like it, some are taken aback by it at first. Those last ones get used to it and no longer consider it rude themselves. At least I have never heard anyone who has been here longer still can it rude. (though it is of course very possible that the ones that don't get used to it, just leave...)
    And of course we do have people who are not just direct but actually rude as well. It is not like we have a perfect society. And we need to complain about it to improve it further! (my head canon is: part of what makes the Netherlands the way it is, is that we complain without caring about status)

    Hi Kat....
    First I would like to thank for your videos, because those are very useful....
    I watched your all videos about Netherland,,,,Those are help to get some ideas about both countries Netherland & Canada,because I am interesting about these two countries.I hope to migrate to a country from these two....if you can,, do a video about "Monthly tax deductions, Health insurance etc " in this both countries. Thank you, Good Luck...!👍

      Thank you! Tax can be fairly complicated so the best course of action is to consult an account. You can get a general overview of taxes for employees in the Netherlands with calculations like these: www.blueumbrella.nl/dutch-tax-calculator
      For Canada, the tax depends on the province that you live in. There is provincial and federal tax. For instance, in Quebec the tax would be the highest in Canada but you would get some extra services for that. Something like this could give you an idea: turbotax.intuit.ca/tax-resources/canada-income-tax-calculator.jsp
      However, as mentioned, there are different deductions based on your income, income of your spouse, kids, whether you have mortgage, whether you work from home. I have an accountant in both countries so definitely recommend working with the professional who can point you in the right direction!
      I might make the video regarding this, we will see but can't promise at the moment :)

    medium rent for a 3 bedroom apartment is about 800 euro's bald , meaning without electricity and gas use included.
    i live in one of the villages in the province of utrecht.
    the big city's are in my opinion not affordable.

    Indeed, ordering an Uber or taxi to go to Schiphol airport is a serious waste of money. Even in the night, there is at least one train every hour to get there! But even then, there are things like Schiphol taxis which bring you there ate a seriously reduced rate (say, 60 euros or so) compared to a normal taxi. I'd still take the train though...

      Same same, I found the train to be the most convenient and affordable option! That’s the always my first choice when I travel to the airport

    Great, I was born here. Lucky me. About directness. Not all people like it and will call it rude. This is logical. In their eyes it IS rude. When I see they don't like it, I just adjust it a bit. Switch to a more pointless conversation actually. More small talk. The Brits are masters at this. And I must say, I do like that type of chit chat. But also here in the netherlands there are differences in the way people talk with eachother. Some regions(like the countryside), the people are more closed. When they start to know you, the directess will appear.

    • @katthinks
      @katthinks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! I really appreciate the directness, for example, in sales people. When I am looking for a car or for a house, I really love how agents are always straight to the point and will mention things that are defective or you need to pay attention to straight away. As a customer, I love that directness because it is so much more useful and productive than when agents, for example, in Canada try to "sell" me things I don't need or hide the defects. I feel much more respected in that sense in the Netherlands because I feel like people don't consider me a "fool" who can be taken advantage of.

    • @seinehakkers5607
      @seinehakkers5607 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@katthinks Salesmen (or women?) will try to sell you stuff. Also in the Netherlands. I think the blunt approuch is more accepted in the US and maybe Canada. They are trying to make a living. The liberal world pushing the boundaries. Lets don't talk politics.
      But I believe that directness is a way to be more efficient. A way to be on topic. But starting a conversation with directness is risky. And maybe the dutch are more likely to take that risk.

    the whole weed things is indeed such bs, i come everywhere in the netherlands and the weed smell is probably the highest in Amsterdam or some other bigger cities, most towns or suburbs have no weed smell ever.

    Hi i am a Dutch - Canadian ( living in Canada for 53 years ) what you are saying is so true in the Netherlands (for me it is still Holland ). The person talking about the trains is the same that i was living there , on time and fast. so the person talking about the Netherlands is a sick puppy. Love your way of thinking about for me Holland. You sound like a Ottawa person.

      Haha, almost :) Montreal! But I did my Masters in Ontario :)
      Trains are amazing and whenever possible, this is my preferred way of transportation. So fast, clean, and easy to use!

      Well we had this person in Amsterdam that was cycling wearing only a thong! I can assure you people frowned upon it at minimum, most of us where even quite shocked to see such crazy behaviour. Ah well it's indeed not forbidden like full nudity. If people want to be like that let them be, they probably get a kick out of it. Haven't seen him in years i wonder what happened to him.
