That lead piece with St. Andrew looks like half a mold maybe for making small statues? The bottom looks like where melted liquid would be poured in?
Thanks Terry, definitely looks like a mould but the suggestion is maybe it was for clay? That would make sense as any metal would melt the mould! Best wishes
@@thescottishdetectorist yes, I wondered about that, too. Maybe if it’s poured plaster or wax?
@@terryt.1643 some new suggestions tin could be poured in and not damage the mould, maybe to make pilgrims badges 🤩
Thanks for a good start to a dreary Sunday in Texas. Very apropos to find St. Andrew today! Love the tiny trivet.❤
18:20 - A half mold for figurines (?) You can see the half of the pouring funnel at the bottom. If it's made from stone, it could withstand molted lead or tin. If it's made of lead, wax or liquid clay.
Just going to comment say the same ,then read your comment 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I did a google and its perfrctly possible to cast tin in a lead mould, tin being also used in pilgrim badges .👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow wow wow 🤩 amazing!!! That’s fantastic!!! Thanks so much for the great help!!
Raymond !! Amazing!! I couldn’t understand why a mould would be made from lead as it would melt but yes, to pour tin of that doesn’t melt…. I think you’ve cracked it! What a star!!! This could be incredibly rare!!! St Andrews pilgrim badges are rare but a mould for a pilgrims badge is almost unheard of 🤩 thanks so much
it would be amazing to find a tin pilgrim badge made from this and match it with the mould.
Simon wants a refund 😂. Great outing, nice to see you having some company.
At about 7 minutes in, the metal object could be a child's antique miniature flat iron stand.
Just spotted your post having thought the same in my post. Wasn’t trying to steal your thunder 🤣
@@user-yr9vc3wc5c LOL no problemo. I often add a comment before reading others. Just too many to read through.
mud mud glorious mud what ever is hidden it is in the mud , a great day John good to see Simon and Marty good finds and artifacts thanks again cheers
Hello my friend. First of all, I'll have you know, that we Americans are entertained by your lovely Scottish accent! Furthermore, metal detecting over there is the ultimate dream for any metal detectorist . The oldest artifacts can only possibly date back to 1492 here in America. So, keep up the good work! Thx dmg 14:40
How did you not piss your self with laughter when Simon let rip ,top man 😅
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friends.AWESOME to see you all out together again. I can’t wait to see your beautiful finds. Oh John…another double silver day…awesome . Blessings, from this old man in Tennessee.
Another new subscriber from the US. Love the videos and I could listen to you talk all day!!! That accent 🥰
Welcome to the channel and thanks for subscribing. Hopefully you enjoy the back catalogue
New subscriber here from the US, though my husband and I have been watching your every episode for quite some time. I get chills when you find the hammered coins. Our recorded history is so young compared to "The Fields of Perthshire." I could never hope to hold something so aged, so I live vicariously through you. Great episode!
Brilliant John!! Amazing relic. That’s a conversation piece. Yikes!!
The st Andrew Cross l99ks like a early day printing plate...love your work . Keep it up
I have a feeling that, that lead saint Andrew was part of a mold for casting, two small notches either side for tying and looks a larger hole on the bottom for pouring in molten metal maybe there's a top to it somewhere??
Just a thought 🤔
Many thanks. I did wonder about a mould but because it’s made from lead it will have a very low melting point so If you were casting bronze or copper, silver, gold or even lead the mould would melt? What do you think?
@@thescottishdetectoristmaybe for pottery pieces which would be fired aftwr molded and dried? Also could be for a one sided figure that would then be stuck to side of a pottery bowl or chalice before firing...
Nice sound effects Simon 😂 love the St. Andrew weight great dig John🍻
Good to see the three amigos this Sunday morn. Glad today improved for you. A few lows and it makes the highs more appreciated. Cheers! 🥰💕❤️👍👍
@thescottishdetectorist, I just saw the St. Andrew find. St. Andrew helps find lost things. Perfect find for a Scottish detectorist!
Oops, 😊 wrong saint, St. Anthony finds lost things, but it looks like St. Andrew sure helped today!
Another cracking video 😮
Take Simon’s phone, take a photo, expand the screen, read the button. Great video and as always, thank you!
Great to see Marty back out, and some great finds. The St Andrew relic is exceptional, and your history lesson outstanding as well. Can’t wait to see what the museum has to say about it. Simon well…charming as ever 😂 🫣
Aww thanks Jennifer, glad you enjoyed. Really looking forward to learning more about it!!
A fine compliment of detectorists and finds, great silver stuff and I really like the St Andrew weight
Watching like a caged bird from over the pond. Well done, as usual
That lead "weight" with St. Andrew on it is actually a mold for pour material in, you have one half of the mold, there is another half to it but what is weird about it is that it is made of lead, but it might have another metal alloyed with it and that it was used to make lead molds of St. Andrew. You can tell it's a mold because it has the little cut out at the bottom of it, which would actually be the top and the other half would have the same cut out in the same location so when you put the two halves together, and then tied them tightly to prevent any metal from leaking out the sides, the would pour the molten metal in through that cut out and let it cool. That is seriously cool item you have there, it's too bad you haven't found the other half, you might be able to pour a St. Andrew figurine from a very old mold. It might be Victorian, or it might be older, I don't know the history of such things, but it is certainly a very cool Mold for making Figurines.
Many thanks!! Yes many other have said the same as you. The suggestion is as it’s lead it was easy to cut the shape as it’s soft and pilgrims badges were poured with tin and tin wouldn’t melt the lead. If it’s for making pilgrims badges it could be 1400’s and would be ultra ultra rare…. As you say…. Need to find the other bit!!!
Perrrrrrt Simon in the background 😂
Loving your videos. Congratulations on the triple silver 👍 Great St Andrew history facts. I didn't know any of that. Cheers John, you are educating me.
John, aka the luckiest detectorist on the planet....grats man
Much appreciated David. Triple silver AND an ancient lead ‘thing’ amazing 🤩
That lead mould is an absolutely stellar find. I honestly think it could have been used to cast wax figurines that were then melted away by pouring in other metals in a reverse mould or whatever they are called. That seems most likely to me as i think any molten metal like tin would run a risk of ruining the finer details of the impressions in the lead or sticking to the mould itself upon cooling. I would much rather find that relic than a hammered silver coin any day. Outstanding and I hope you share the results in a future video when you hear from experts at a museum. Cheers mate!
Great to see you guys together hi Martin hi Simon
Great finds! The St Andrews relic looks like half a casting mold with the pour/sprue at the base.
Amazing Geoff!! That’s what other have suggested for pouring tin…. Making pilgrims badges 🤩
Another riveting video ...many thanks xx the heart shaped trivet reminds me of a flat iron stand.....smaller than usual, but then they did have tint flat irons for fine work ??? Please please keep us updated on the St. ANDREW mould xxxx
Great finds, John! Greetings from the Caribbean.
Nice finds! I’m so happy for you all. And where else could I go where there’s so much eye candy, lol…..
Now that's how to get out of a slump! Excellent day in the field with your fellow Scottish/Spanish detectorists! Well done, John. That piece of lead with the Saint Andrew pressed into it is an epic find, not to leave out three silver coins and the rest of the cool finds. That heart shaped item may have been a wee trivet for a table setting. I'm glad that you were the most active detector of the field, since the other two have been jammy swines in the past.
Good luck on your next excursion, now drink something warn, as it looked rather chilly in the field.
You may be @50k by the new year!

Yes, here’s hoping I dig up a £2.3million bottle of whisky and 40k for 1st January would be amazing wouldn’t it! Thanks Toni. Maybe I’ll use the lead mould for making ice 🧊 cubes 😂
The wonderful St. Andrew could be made of a lead alloy (Portable Antiquities Database) and then, it would be rugged enough to have been used as a seal matrix or a stamp for making pilgrim badges, for example.
Thanks Susan. That seems to be the suggestion from a few and I’ve looked it up and it makes a lot of sense. If it is I can only find one example with St Andrews in existence 🤩 and 1400’s sounds likely 🤩
I think this is one of your most interesting digs in a good while. No gold, but the relic is awesome. It will deserve its own follow up report from the museum I think. Cheers from Texas.
Amen David. Could be a real rarity!! Some suggesting maybe a clay mould?
I think the three amigos need to go to spec savers! Perhaps you could carry a lightweight magnifying glass to see the dates? I love the St Andrew relic, no wonder you got so excited. Great finds John.
Haha 😂 old age coming gracefully 😂 I do actually have a magnifying glass and forgot to use it 🙄
Your a joy to watch and have done since you started, the way you roll your R/s when saying Perthshire and worm are awesome and give me a chuckle but can you say purple burglar alarm on your next vid for us please. Daus 2 locks, don’t be to hard on Simon as I’m sure he trying 😂 Russ from Bristol
Nicely done great finds I enjoyed the video

I found this channel below quarter holder video, pretty cool detectorist. I subscribed and added all videos. What I like the best is his vast knowledge of his finds and compares it all in valve to pints of beer food. 🍺
Awesome hunts for you all. Looking forward to seeing what you get. That totles tells it all.
BRILLIANT Digs!! Congratulations!!
Well done gents!!!!
The three silvers would have made a great day. That weight is over the moon!!! What an incredible find!! I had company watching football when I first saw it. I had the sound turned off for the game. I was going nuts waiting for these folks to leave so I could find out what you had. Very, very good on ya!!! Cheers and all that!! Thanks!!
John try using a L.E.D. flashlight lay it flat on a table beside your coins so they cast a shadow on the coins and relics to side light them gl🍀
I would say you have found part of a Mould, it seems to half of a pouring entrance at one end. Great finds with the silver coins. Love the video's, Cheers from QLD Australia.
Thanks for the video. Nice finds!
Looks like one half of a lead mould for casting St Andrew figures, nice find.
@@thescottishdetectorist it’s a good chance it could be pilgrim badges.
The heart-shaped thingy with feet could be for standing hot pots or pans on? Fantastic day!
I bet the museum will want that lead!😂
Rare artefact, and a triple silver day. That sure makes up for the bad days. Nice one John. Always good to see some of the boys out with you. All the best to you all and HH.
Could the heart shaped item be a pointer from a Ouiji board? Shock and horror! 😮
Cracking find, can't help with the ID other than to say that the way St Andrew is depicted looks medieval in style, strikes me as odd that the design is incised rather than in relief though - I would be thinking mould or seal matrix if it was not for the fact its made of lead. The brass claw/paw looks like decoration from the foot of a table leg, someone probably had a bonfire of some old furniture 80 years or so ago
Amazing thanks! Some suggestions st Andrew is a clay mould
Oh wow again! What a fantastic lead relic to find, along with your little silver stash and other coins and things you had a great day all three of you - inc Simon! 😂. Amazing interesting historic commentary you give to John 👏👏👏
So glad to see you enjoying the company of your friends and finding fun things.
I’m going to think of Simon as “Gassy Simon” from here on out. 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Great silvers John and the Saint Andrew carving was truly something! Gassy Simon!! 😂😂😂
Glad you enjoyed it…. Simon is on a yellow card…. Next time he’s suspended 😂
@@thescottishdetectorist hahahahahaha By the way, I’m very much enjoying your tours. I never knew Scotland was so beautiful! Next trip to Europe I’ll be heading that way. Lovely.
I think everyone in Scotland has holes in their wee pockets to drop so much stuff.
Im glad you've broke that dry streak. Well it seems you may have passed it on to Simon😂 . Keep the videos coming. Buy the way I believe the heart shaped item is a trivet. It's to hold the cast iron clothes iron. Would be from Victorian era. My grandmother has a few of these. Some are small and some were quite large.
Oh wow .. that lead weight of St Andrew is a great find John … keep us informed of what the museum has to say about it …
Certainly will Chris possibly a mould for making pilgrims badges is a good shout which would be made with poured tin? Certainly could be 1400’s
My thought too was something to do with pilgrimage, but could find nothing like it. @@thescottishdetectorist
I feelnlike the St.Andrew is a mold. Maybe for wax figures? It seems to have dents on the sides that remind of mold clips.
The little heart looks like a child's toy iron (for doll clothes) trivet. Very sweet :)
What an amazing relic! Congrats. And, it seems we share the same middle name. LOL
A great start to my week. Another amazing video, this time with the 3 Amigos. Awesome finds 🥰
Congratulations ! We're looking forward to the Museum's
thoughts on approximate date, info, etc. for the Saint Andrew weight (?).
AND 3 shiny coins as well. A very good day.
It appears that the moist/wet soil conditions help the sensitivity.
Definitely wet ground helps!! It seems it could be a mould for making tin pilgrims badges and 1400’s as thought which would be incredible! I’ll update when I know more!
The heart! What a treasure mate! Just wanted to let you know your show has made us look seriously at moving from British Columbia to the UK. Detecting is pretty tough here in the mountains where we live.
Anyways, back to the heart. This will sound crazy maybe, but possibly it could be a Ouija gane/board pin? Some potential witchery there maybe.
We will be in Scotland in 11 days for the first time (Edinburgh). Cannot wait! Love your show. Wife and I watch daily and daydream of gathering permissions to enjoy putting treasurer’s on the surface. Thanks John for the amazing show you work so hard to share with all of us.🍻
Great video john 👍
Awesome a heart trivet....maybe for a small teapot?
Thanks Debbie. It seems really small, maybe a mini teapot or for a stylish espresso ☕️ drinker on the fields of Perthshire beck in the day 😂
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friends. Your climate, there in Perthshire is similar to our climate here in northeast Tennessee…maybe a wee bit colder, where y’all are located. Our temperatures are below freezing, some evenings, but no snow yet. Our days are a little chilly, but not bad…16C to 20C.
I think the St Andrew thing is half a mold. It has pour spots.
Great day. You'll have to sow the Spaniard a few pennies. 😅
That is Good find👏👏👏
very interesting, looking forward to an update!
Another bonus day! Sad that the boys did not get anything spectacular.
I love it when the guys get together. It is so obvious you really enjoy each other company and I love the banter. I really appreciate it when you can tell us what the coins would buy in those days. Anothet great day John. Well Done!
That tripod thing is an iron stand, 100/150 years old. The pilgrimage token is much older.
Looks like it might be 1400’s which would be amazing and if it’s for making pilgrim tokens i think there’s only one complete one ever found in Scotland of St Andrew 🤩
The heart shaped trivet reminds me of a plant pot foot. There would have been 3 or 4 setting under a pot to keep it off the carpet or flooring. Probably not what it is but it’s what it reminds me of
What about a coaster ? Something to place hot objects like pots or cups on , on a wooden table ?
I'm pretty sure that it is an iron rest. Just search 'antique iron rest ' on google and you'll find enough examples...
The relic is amazing can’t wait to find out more info on it, well done.
Your knowledge is amazing! Love the stories that come with the finds.
Sweet! Love these finds. Especially the St Andrew relic. I look forward to seeing what the museum has to say.
Great finds, love your channel
Much appreciated! I think the lead mould/weight is something special 🤩 thanks for watching
Your level of knowledge never ceases to amaze me, keep it up bro, great episode
A shout out from the States… another incredible journey! I love hearing your accent, as my mum was born and raised in Falkirk. She lived across the street from a big park, I forgot the name of it (I’ve been there as a wee lad but the name slips my memory) but she says there was a great battle there… battle of Falkirk? But would I love to lay my coil on that site! Thanks again for the great hunt…
Memorial Park! Yes 1298 the battle of Falkirk, though we lost!!
Glad you enjoyed!! Many thanks
Hi,not finished watching yet, at 7.16.that "thing" looks like a ouija board pointer! You may be going to get a visit, so near Halloween too!!!
Hi, I'm from Canada. Enjoy both your shows. Do you ever put together tours around Scotland for foreigners? I'd definitely be interested. Have done walks there and like scotland.
Thanks,

The St. Andrew looked like a mould. It would have had another piece and you would pour the Molten metal in that end which has the notch.
Looks like a good time, gents. 🍻
St. Andrew relic is an amazing find and your historical info is brill ! ...😊
St Andrew lead looks like a mould for casting metal
Other agree with you, apparently tin wouldn’t melt the lead and would allow the manufacture of pilgrims badges 🤩
Well done on your triple silver makes them other days that wasn't so good a distant memory.well done you 3 👍
Amazing isn’t it. The XP DEUS 2 is a silver hoover…. It’s an unbelievable machine and sensi FT is now my go to programme!!
So true - if you never worked you woudnt know what a weekend was- what a wild thought that would be
Excellent finds!! 🎉Looking forward to what the Museum says!!!
Absolutely love the St. Andrews relic. WOW! congrats John!
I didn't see anyone else mention this, but I think your Saint Andrew relic may have a scratched drawing on the reverse. See around @39:50 tto @40:01 - there are lines that have a definite diamond pattern like some sort of robes, and a "swash" from upper right to lower left that looks like a sash or something. Which makes it even MORE interesting, It's either decorated, or scratched naturally but the scratching looks distinctly intentional. The more I look at the still at that point in the video, the more I see and am convinced there's more art on this than the figure on the reverse. Am I nuts or is there art there too? (those aren't mutually exclusive options)
Nice showing today John..
Martin, Simon.. Much better on the next dig we pray.. Good Day..
