    This has always been one of my favourite of Dylan's 60's songs. 'And while everybody knelt to pray the Drifter did escape'.

      Really strong English from start to end, stuffed with iambs. To me it smacks strongly of the great originators, the Elizabethans.
      It's noticeably a rejection of absolutely everything between 1820 and 1915, whether he thought of it in those terms or not.

      Hi like you I share ideas and joy inside his song but we both understand thier a grain of truth. Have you heard his song about grace and grain of sand.

    An underrated album of Dylan's, for sure. That was inevitable, I think, coming on the heels of "Highway 61 Revisited," "Bringing It All Back Home," and "Blonde on Blonde," as it did. Regardless of its unfair legacy, it's always been one of my favorites by him, whatever the general consensus about its quality or importance may be. No other record of his sounds like this one; "John Wesley Harding" is a very singular, idiosyncratic and unfortunately, often overlooked little masterpiece that suffers in the shadows cast by its equally amazing immediate predecessors.

      "I asked Columbia to release it with no publicity and no hype, because this was the season of hype". Still, it has the immensely popular All Along The Watchover in it, so thankfully it has some kind of hook for some people to approach it, even if it will never be as celebrated as the threesome you mention... or the one that would come next for that matter, Nashville Skyline.

    • @victormorgado5318

      Underrated is right!, even when this is the album with All Along the Watch Tower, that so much blew Hendrix's mind

      I think he wanted to simmer things down. Also to zig when everyone thought he would surely zag.

      Many critics cite JWH as Dylan's masterpiece.

    • @woden22

      The minimalist, no-frills playing and imagistic precise Americana of the lyrics correlates with everything that went on in the basement, and yet, there's no crossover between those two projects. Very strange.

      Hi you
      This is my greatest song up to date. Like your comment. I think thier a grain of truth in every story he tells so well. He song in every grain of sand great too. This one tops it. I am sure you can place your self for a minute in his shoe. Hope you enjoy your day.

    • @dixonpinfold2582
      @dixonpinfold2582 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In every song, he turns you into a different person. He immerses you in their thoughts and minds and feelings to persistently surprising, potent and unexpected effect and drags you along through them for three minutes. Then it's over and you're not quite the same afterwards. Part of you is that different person, now that he's made you live as them. Not many people can do that at all, and he can do it in ways which one might remember.

      People people trying to get meaning from a song written by someone who may not even understand their music themselves is amusing as I was told by my musician uncle while explaining what I took from a Dylan song once that art is something that everybody can look at / listen to and take something different from it but this is not to say you should not share what you take from anything that is why I read the comments on songs on TH-cam but to say you know what Dylan meant is just funny

    absolutely great album I mean like INSANELY good but god damn I wish they mixed the harmonica down just a littttle bit lol. I mean the band is really tearing it up on these tracks and every time he stops singing its like an ear piecing freight train (in a bad way lol) coming through your living room and distracts you from the core of the song I feel like... It's not so bad in this version but on my CD it's ridiculous! I wonder if the vinyl record is the same?
