- In this video I'll show you how I took these vintage glass building blocks that were found in a barn and turn them into really cool whiskey tap/decanter.
Two friends of mine sent me the same Crafty Panda Video where a guy takes a glass block and turns it into a whiskey tap. Well, One of those friends happened to have Vintage blocks in his barn for me to use. The video they sent me did not give specifics so I had to figure it out on my own. I show you how I did it with mistakes and all.

Its just perfect.. but can you please tell me how to clean inside of the glass box. after making 2 holes those tiny glass particles will be present inside the glass box after the drilling..
This is a good question. I have a follow up video coming out today and I did not include this. I might take it down and add it.
Anyway, I rinse it multiple times. Then I hold it up to the light make sure I don’t see anything. Just lots of thorough rinsing really
@@epeiusgarage yes please.. and when we drill the glass box i think we ll get a bigger round glass chunk .. m not getting how to take out from the glass box.. please include my doubt in your video.. thankyou so much
@@rachanaparmesh1394 that round piece comes out when you rinse it. I never have trouble. But yeah I might add this. Means I have to film it and edit it in today lol. I think it’s worth it though. How do you say your name?

@@rachanaparmesh1394 ok sorry I’m advance if I mess it up.
Thanks once again for sharing this information. I went out yesterday and bought some glass blocks and ordered some spigots and plugs. I hope to make a few along with some planters and have a woodworkers garage craft sale. I have no idea how to price whiskey taps but hopefully I'll make enough money to buy a drum sander by the end of Summer. I noticed in one of your short videos you were showing how to make a template, I hope you make a full video soon on how you mass-produce your whiskey taps. Again I want to applaud your kindness in wanting to help a small business, that is so admirable of you. You made a friend and a long time viewer in myself. I wish I could get back to doing my artwork, but I had open heart surgery and somehow they nicked a nerve and my left hand doesn't cooperate like it used to. I'm going to spend the summer in my woodshop being careful and again I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge. PS I really enjoy your opening vignette it is one of the most clever ones I've seen on TH-cam so far. Your friend, Jim Anthony
🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔 PSS Hi Andy, I just noticed that you have more videos. I'm going to Watch and study those videos also. Thanks again
Jim,
First off thank you for watching. Second thanks for leaving such a great comment. Comments like yours are the only reason I keep making videos. That’s the truth.
I just released a new follow up that covers some good info. Hopefully you see it too.
Feel free to message me in Facebook or email me both are linked in the description of the video.
Your friend,
Andy
This is an absolute BRILLIANT idea!! Thanks for the links to parts for it. Will have to give this a try. Thanks again!!
Thank you! Stay tuned for the follow up. I’m filming it now. I’ll cover all the stuff I’ve learned from trial and error. I’ve made about 25 of them so far
@@epeiusgarage GOOGLY MOOGLY!! 25 of them???? I don't want to compete with you on Etsy so will probably just stay local. I know of a few couples that would buy them if I made them for them.
This is a cool project I hadn't seen before and it shows the diamond bits from Amazon I ordered a while back in action.
Thank you! Yeah they work well!
Awesome stuff! Nice to meet you today!
Thank you! Really nice meeting you too!
Hi. On the stands to hold the block how did you fix.? Were they just glued.?
@@Resin__Designer hello, just glue and I clamp it down while it dries
Love the burnt version. I think I just found my next project
It’s a fun project. I did several follow up videos. Make sure to check those out as well
Just had a thought. How do you get the glass out of the frame for cleaning when the glass has those front and rear beveled peaks?
@@dulcimerjunkie8516 slides in and out. Inside of the frame is the same as those peaks.
Thank you so much brother for the awesome work you did on our project. The final result was amazing. My wife has other projects she'll be messaging you about in the future. Good luck and continued success in your endeavors. Semper Fi/Semper Gumby Highwater Bob
Thank you! It was awesome making this for y’all
Need some help. My glass block edge to edge is 7 5/8” long. My miters for the frame always come up short. What is the technique to get a square frame that fits around the block?
Make sure your inner corners of your miter are an 1/8” longer. In your case 7-3/4”.
Do this using some scrap wood cut in 1-1/2 wide strips. Once you get the fit you want keep one piece and use it to set up your saw every time.
This is what I did.
This is an awesome idea. Only thing I would change would be to use a food grade sealant. The JB Weld is not.
Once it’s cured it’s food safe. It’s even ethanol safe.
LOOKS LIKE FUN … DO YOU TAKE THE GLASS CIRCLE THAT FALLS INSIDE OUT OR LEAVE IT … JUST WONDERING 😉
I remove all glass that falls in. It goes through a multi step high pressure rinse and leak testing before I’m done
Is the spout held on by silicone only? No nut on back of spout?
Yes, silicone only. The silicone is very strong.
awesome work. like the Marine shirt
Thank you! Appreciate you watching
So cool. Thank you
@@ladymay27 your welcome
2 questions- how do you get the glass cut-outs out?
And do you glue the frame around the glass block? Didn't see that in the video.
Thanks loads! They look awesome. And I agree about the burn look -- incredible😎
I think I cover this in one of my follow up videos. I rinse with a fair amount of pressure larger hole pointed down.
The glass is not attached to the frame. Just sits in it freely
Love this. Great idea Andy!!!
Thank you
Question. Do you “glue” the block in (silicone) or just leave it loose
Thanks
Harty
Leave it loose. That way it’s easy to take out and rinse.
Love this! Mistakes often lead to innovation. I actually prefer the new design. I want one but can I have a copper or bronze spout versus the stainless? My small business shout-out goes to FLY BY NIGHT CATTLE COMPANY STEAKHOUSE in Cleburne, TX. Beautiful location, great views of cattle country and absolutely great steak. Worth the trip for a special occasion.
Hey Sara! Thank you!! Yeah of course I can get you one with the bronze or copper stopper. We will talk.😁
How do you clean out the glass brick after you drill it?
@@annaharder8288 I use a hose with a high pressure nozzle and flush thoroughly. I think I showed this in one of the videos I’ve covered on this subject
Such a good soul. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Are you glueing the glass inside the box with epoxy?
No, the glass slides in and out. You want to be able to take it out to rinse it. There’s no need to epoxy or secure it in the box
I would guess that the stopper helps keep it in place on top of the weight.
Hey. How did you fix the 45 deg angled legs to the frame? Just glue?
Yeah, just glue. Works great as long as the angles are good. Nice tight fit
@@epeiusgarage
Thanks!👍
They look very professionnel excellent
Thank you very much! I try lol
Hy. It's awesome. Can you tell me the dimensions in centimeters maybe? Thanks
Glass blocks are all different. You just need to go off the blocks you are using. This video is to give you ideas.
Thanks for sharing
What are you charging for them. I'm interested in buying one
I sell the ones I make on my Etsy page. They are around $130.00
Can I ask why you didn't use the rubber grommet on the spout? I noticed you just put the silicone directly against the back wall of the spout without the rubber grommet,, any reason? Is a a better seal without it?
I could not find an easy way to get the nut in the glass. Not without making a larger hole than I wanted. Go for it though. Let me know if you do. I’m curious
Just a little trick. Cut a round piece of sponge that fits inside your hole cutting bit. Soak it with water, then start cutting. As you are cutting, the water from the sponge keeps your cut piece wet.
Nice tip, thanks.
Hi, great work.
Is the glass attached to the wood or is it removable?
I'm afraid if someone picks it up and isn't careful it might fall out.
Hey,
Thanks you! Thanks for watching too!
The glass is not attached. You could add a stopper on the back but the dimensions I give for these blocks make a tight fit. I’ve had no issues with mine yet
Parabéns, muito bacana o seu trabalho. Acompanhando aqui do Brasil - Porto Alegre -Rio Grande do Sul.
Thank you very much! I’d love to visit Basil one day! Thank you for watching!
Hello and thanks for the video. I've cut two holes. One at 16mm and one at 18mm. The nut for the spigot does not fit through the 18mm hole. I could make it bigger but then I'm worried about the stopper. Suggestions?
I don’t use the nut. I use silicone. I cover it in the video and I have a follow up video plus another video that gives more detail on this subject.
@@epeiusgarage I just watched the follow up video and I realized that. Thanks so much for the response and confirmation.
@@mrfixitpa my pleasure! Hope it turns out awesome
Great project. Nice of your friend to provide you with the blocks. I see the ones you used are 6x6x4. Having seen what the finished product looks like (in person), what would you think of using 6x6x3 blocks? Too skinny? Would it look ok (and contain) the 750ml bottle of bourbon?
Funny you ask, I just ran out of those blocks. I’m now using the 6x6x3 and they work great. Holds one full bottle of liquor. I hat to adjust the thickness of the frame but other wise it’s great
How do you make sure that the hole for the stopper lines up between the glass and the wood?
It depends on your glass block size but for mine I measure 1”-1/4 in 1”-7/8 down on the wood frame. Then on the glass I measure 1”-1/4 down and 1”-1/4 in.
For me this lines up perfect. You may need to figure out your for yourself and then just write it down for next time. Thanks for watching hope this helped
Brilliant, Andy! Really fantastic work! 😃
It definitely looks much better with the legs like that!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
BTW, I'm from Brazil, so... I don't know any small business there in the US. 😬
Thank you! Hey, I didn’t specify what country😁
I wonder if a 18mm grooved grommet would work?
Only one way to find out🤷🏼♂️
@@epeiusgarage yep. I have tried twice and I just can’t get it to pass the leak test. It’s a great build though and I appreciate your answer
@@lacttech I’ve never had one leak yet. I test every one and have sold over 100 of them.
@@epeiusgarage I’m doing something wrong either in the cut and glass is flaking. Or, I’m not using enough of the JB weld silicone; but, there’s plenty of squeeze out. And, I let it dry overnight. I’ll figure it out.
@@lacttech you are using the 16mm for the spout and 18mm for the stopper right? The splints I link are for a 16mm hole.

How do you cut the wood going around the glass block
I use my table saw. I believe I show it in the video. Hope that answers your question
Hi! how did you fix the box to the legs? thanks and great work!
I just used wood glue on the 45° cuts and clamped it down for a few hours. Worked like a charm. Thank you and thanks for watching. Hope you find my other videos as interesting as this one. Cheers!
Is it standard size blocks 190x190×80mm? How much is the inside volume?
They are 5-3/4” x 5-3/4”. I don’t have a metric ruler. I know, I need to get one lol.
In my conversion app it says it’s 146.05mm.
Hope this helps
I know a 750 ml bottle fills it just above halfway. It holds quite a bit

Use super glue and a string.

No, they are thoroughly rinsed and washed before I apply the spigot and again after it’s applied.
