Thank you for this video. I had a check valve go bad and my set up is pretty much identical to this. I had been putting it off because I really wasn’t sure how to do it but after watching this I got the project done almost immediately. I’m not a handyman but it ACTUALLY WORKS!
Hey Chuck. My sump pump in our new house has a continual drip-drip-drip all the time. I'm wondering if my neighbor's sprinkler system is causing this continual dripping into the pit. It's not much, but it's constant.
Question- my mother has a metal 1 1/4 discharge pipe that her 1/3hp pump goes into. We are replacing the pump with a 1/2hp pump. Can the new 1/2hp pump with 1 1/2” pvc connect to the old 1 11/4” metal pipe or is that to much pressure going from 1 1/2 down to 1 1/4?
What about a check valve in a sump pump discharge that goes up about 3 feet but then comes right back down into the concrete slab? I added one anyway, although there was no check valve present for 42 years.
Same here. No check-valve installed anywhere on my 27 year old sump pump discharge line. It never cycled continuously. I did have to replace the pump recently, and did install a cheap screw-in check-valve. No problems...yet anyhow.
So, I bought a new sump pump and bought a check valve since I learned you need one. I replaced the sump pump and added the check valve on top of the sump pump (at the very base of the pipe after being pumped). After I went through all the work, I noticed the coupler about three feet up. Tiny print on it says “check valve”. I realized, “Last time I saw that, I thought it was a reminder”. So now I have two check valves on my sump pump pipe.
Well done. This is what makes men heroes. Ask any woman and if she’s smart she knows the value of a man who fixes his own home . My fathers father taught him and he taught me and now I build homes 🏠 and heck we’ll do anything. The tough work is in commercial work because there’s so many different trades , it takes time and a lot of it .it’s just the way it is .
No. I’m a woman. And I will tell you if she’s smart, she will learn to fix her own home the way my mom taught me. The upside is if the man can also fix things in the home, things get repaired twice as quickly, if egos and stubbornness don’t get in the way. But even if he doesn’t, at least she can depend on herself to fix things any time she wants something repaired. I may not know it all, but with TH-cam, there’s no reason a woman can’t learn to fix things around the house.
I notice that after repair you pipe only goes up a few feet vert. from check valve. then goes hoz. & then back vert. does this help with clunking? mine goes up vert. 5 feet & then hoz. to the outside. I have a quiet check valve above pump. do you think if I only go a few feet vert. install elbow; go against wall & then back vert. will help with Loud clunk?
IS it OK to install the check valve on the discharge pipe only a foot above the sump pump threaded connection? In my case, this would mean the check valve is mostly submerged. Even it may work initially, should I worry about the lifetime of the valve when it operates submerged?
Closer has nothing wrong but I'm not experienced plumber but too far it will not work properly the water will fall back down and keep cycling the pump.

This was perfect. Followed the instructions given and was done in no time! Thanks for this!
No mention of a weep hole. Do you not recommend drilling on?
Why no weep hole before the check valve
Yet another awesome how-to video, thanks!
Install the valve above the tank to help prevent corrosion of the metal clamps.

Does it matter where the check valve goes. Also does smelly water come.the top if not sealed properly.
Bro you got enough keys?!?! Nice vid as always
Hi Chuck, great simple explanation! Thank you sir and Happy New Year!
You rock! Thanks for putting these videos on youtube. I appreciate the help.
High pressure pump
Can I do this without cutting?
Does the Zoeller M98 require a check valve?
Thank you Chuck your a life savor !!
why did you not install the valve where you made first cut ?
you want the valve low so less water backfills into the basin
That was exactly what I was looking for.
I tried your sawing method and cut my leg off! Gee, thanks for that!
Same
He was cutting from the outside thigh...I was cutting from the inside thigh. I didn't lose a leg...but I embarrassingly lost something else!

Nothing wrong with Globalists, Apu.

Can the check valve be placed anywhere convenient or does it need to be close to the pump like you have ?
Surprised you still have legs and fingers if you do this regularly. But you get the job done, for sure. Good explanation.
thanks
Enjoyed a LOT of your videos, very informative. Thanks for sharing!
question: does it matter how close to the sump pump the back flow valve is? and fine to be in the crock?
2 feet from the pump

Savas Kaya
It is in the video but I would put it higher so it's easier to work on in an emergency. But I'm not a plumber.

So helpful. Got the Check Valve installed on the first try.
lookin milfy, miss
GET THAT HOOD ON!
...black and decker, what ever ya got.
Ok
2 feet from the pump bud
