I live in Jefferson County on the Olympic Peninsula. It's been a really prolific year for mushrooms this year. After I've correctly identified a mushroom, I never eat more than one bite to begin with, and then I wait several hours to see how I feel. Fortunately, I've had zero gastrointestinal problems and have been able to enjoy properly prepared mushrooms without any distress.
Awesome video!! So much info and a great insight to the community that surrounds the foraging and research of mushrooms. I look forward to being more apart of the world of mushrooms!!! Lots of love from one of many of your viewers!
Found a ton of ringless honeys my first walk back in the woods yesterday. Then when I went out in the side yard I found another three tufts. And I really like them! I also have dehydrated a bunch. I always add a little garlic and onion powder. They crisped up nicely and we’re yummy ❤
I went in the woods after a long rain and identified 5 different mushrooms! All because of you! Thank you for these correctly identified mushrooms near my area! Are you ever concerned about cryptococcus metformin galeii? It is a fungus that grows on trees. Old growth for on eastern Vancouver Island. It can make a person very ill, one woman died from inhaling it. Originally from Australia. People there don't usually die as they have built immunity.
Love the macro lens for the phone ! And love the foraging pack ! Great foray, Would love to visit the west coast to explore the old growth forests. Mush love from the east coast and NJ 🍄 ❤
I did this hike in September, beautiful river hike. Went to where the damn use to be, pretty cool to look out over the valley. Did see some mushrooms but nothing I would eat. I wasn’t really looking, my son was with me and he keeps walking. Guess he’s tired of me looking at everything 😆 Now I want to go back and go much slower. Did you see the horse donkeys?
thank you for sharing my backyard. i brought to the peninsula fungi festival a specimen of what I thought was a honey mushroom. Thank you for this video because my specimen looked just like the ones you pictured. i'll return to my spot and use my microscope to make sure.
Dude, I spent the whole day through various parts of the Olympics yesterday. There was very little specimen that we're still in good shape, or hadn't been harvested. It was shocking.
I think I will head to Olympic Peninsula prior to NAMA to cycle around and look for mushrooms. Lots of places look great, there is a bit of a lack of easy mountain biking where the rain has hit though. Disque is one possibility.
Do you not eat honey mushrooms more often because you're worried about the possible GI upset? It seems like they're common and you like them and they kill trees, so why not eat a ton? (I do, personally.)
We eat a lot of Armillaria in Romania. First we boil the mushrooms in water (~10 minutes) and then we prepare a lot of goodies of them: risotto, soup, vegetable paste or meatballs, pickled armillaria... delicious! 😋

There are no guarantees in life but that's something that isn't worth worrying about. Suck up the fungus' in the forest.
You made quick work of this video already! Thanks for documenting

@@808humphrey where do I sign up!?
I'm up to like 500 photos and 60+ field data slips. We'll see how many make the cut. Crazy. Overwhelming lol.
Last year I found a lot of peaches Amanita in my state
Good morning guys
Graham is the only person I've ever heard pronounce "fungi" the way he did 😅
When he said “watery” I thought he said “lottery”-and the question had been “are they edible?”

Would you be willing to visit a college here in Yakima and do a presentation on what you know??
@@paygeprater418 If it were worth my while, definitely. It's pretty far drive.
Why are they called deer mushrooms? Do deer eat them?
@@spongebobsqueeze I've heard suspicions that it is the color of a deer hide 🤷
I'm a newbie. 😅 One day I will be educated then brave enough to harvest and eat.
