    I found turning the hdmi black level to high to fix the tone mapping in dark scenes. You can clean up the HDR with some setting tweeks. Also turn your power savings to max also helps not blow out highlights and reduce noise considerably! I find it plenty bright in a dark room.

    The category of short throws with high-resolution is definitely an interesting one. While the projector category as a whole is slowly shrinking this category within the entire projector market has emerged as an easy to integrate front projector solution. This particular model is more upscale in fit and finish but is what I'd call prohibitively expensive for the average consumer. So if it is aimed at the well-heeled and informed A/V consumer I still think it's a bit of a fail overall at this price. Good review I think because I think I can read my own beliefs into it somewhat. Still it packs a lot of impressive tech but doesn't redefine the short throw laser/led category in a consummate leap of image quality that the price should be delivering. Just an opinion and certanly not technical or definitive in any way.

      @georgepopescu1327 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It means that the chip is only 1080p but the projector is doing some interesting trick in order to multiply those pixels. You will have 8.3 millions pixels on screen if you count them but they are basically obtained by multiplying 1080p pixels 4 times. Don't worry, the image will be much sharper than on a 1080p projector, if you don't have a native 4k projector side by side with a shift 4k, you won't notice the difference and even than only if you look carefully and you don't sit very far. Sharpness isn't a problem at all for those DLP projectors, other things are bad: native contrast, black levels, color luminance. They are ok if you don't pay more than 1500$. Don't be fooled by marketing, DLP projectors don't worth 4000-5000$ at all, none of them! If you can spend that much, buy a Sony 4k or better a JVC.

    the manual focus option is weird, its placement so that your hand is too close not to interfere with the laser source, and you need the picture to keep playing while adjusting, so it can't be equipped with object detect auto shutoff safety feature like on the other USTs. You want to know the problem with this UST projector? Hmm...uh..huh...It's 6000 DOLLARS!!!! The point of a UST is to try to replace a TV with big size. I'd rather have four 65 inch LG C9 OLEDS. A 77" C9 LG and save thousands. Almost an LG W9 77" wallpaper TV. I'd rather have a LG 86" LCD or a Sony 85" LCD TV for 2000 dollars. You can buy FOUR LG 86" TVs for the price of this. Oh, did I leave out: That's without the cost of a 100 inch screen? (A decent one = forget it) Did I also leave out that the 100-150 inch screen is permanently on the wall? So much for portability and 6 inches from the wall. A TV is on the wall. How cool USTs look. Still have multiple cables and a huge screen. This LG UST is also huge. Defeating the purpose. As a great projector yes. Not as a TV replacement. You can buy a 720P or a 1080P UST and save 5000 plus dollars. Then it's cost effective. You should be comparing this to another long throw or regular short through projectors. As in other projectors. Their are maybe two projectors on the market that have decent sound. That's like buying a flat screen TV and complaining about sound. This LG rivals most onboard TV speakers. The image also has to do with your inexpensive screen and I'm still trying to figure out what you are comparing this too. Black levels aren't great. Compared to what?? Interesting. It's a projector, projecting through light to a screen. -This is a decent overview

    What are your suggestions for a screen for these UST projector's? My living room has no overhead lights but the ceiling and walls are white. Retractable screens might be considered depending on price. Looking for 120" or 135" if possible.

    Hi Shane got a serious question i was going to buy a sony X9500G however i going to spend a bit more and get a UST Projector am looking at the Optoma P1, is this LG HU85 2200 dollars better in quality?
    all im after is vivid colors and good contrast to have blacks deep and HDR bright.
    The P1 sounds like my cup of tea however the true question is the LG85 worth 2200 over the P1?
    Cheers Bud keep up the reviews especially hte movie ones, im always buying the ones you mention.

      I have Sony's VZ1000ES, LG's HU85LA and Optoma's CinemaX P1. Yes, Sony's native 4K HDR VZ1000ES UST projector does deliver the best overall picture quality. Specifically, Sony's VZ1000ES delivers deeper blacks, a moderately sharper image and the best color accuracy. Sony just dropped the MSRP to $14,999. I nick named them the Good, Better, & Best choices in the UST category.

I myself am in the market for the 85 Q7d, but only because it will work out better over my fireplace than an UST, otherwise, I would get the Optoma... and I am still having second thoughts. I have a 150 inch outdoor screen being fed by a 1080p Optoma projector and it's a better experience than my friends 75 4K LG (not OLED). Yes, but where's the comparison to the OLED/LED? Title implies comparison, you even hint at it by mounting a TV behind the screen - yet.... no comparison. You mentioned it's coming soon, but I looked at all the video's since this one was published and nothing. I think a lot of people are interested in a head to head. Obviously the Sony you hung behind the LG/VividStorm combo will be better, but the question is how much better and does it matter, when you get such insane size? Etc... C'mon, get us some "vs" content :)

    As convenient as it may be, a short throw DLP should not cost above $2.500... or any DLP for that matter. The blacks are never deep and the rainbow effect makes the picture unstable even for people like me that don't see it. The brain knows. The laser source is a good thing though but not $6.000 good.
