I have been in an almost 30yr relationship that has entailed all the hurtful bs that you mentioned. There were 3 chances, it is done, and I thought I was doing my children and grandchildren right by staying and providing stability. But while having physical stability I was robbing us all of emotional stability.
I almost can't imagine what it would be like to sit across from a partner and be able to communicate on an adult level or even be able to communicate at all. Makes me want to cry just thinking about what a profound relief and comfortable experience that would be. It's something I've never experienced with a partner, a partner as a true caring and loving friend. EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING, you talked about is my life. I finally left him after 18 years and within one month I found who I'm really supposed to be with for the rest of my life. It financially drained me (he never worked) but I gave him our extra property, no child support and half of the sale of our house. Totally worth it though! My divorce of an 18 year marriage, was final on the 19th of September 2024. Just a few days ago. We had been separated for 9 years, but separated a few times before. I feel so much lighter. I have much hope. I have only had a relationship with him for 18 years! I am, like you say, not really looking for a relationship right now, but I did cross paths with a person I knew, a few years ago. Not in a relationship, just through a work situation.
