      Pete Johns what about getting a compressor with gate but only a little bit gate

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a gate can help with noise between phrases and with background noise. Perhaps a topic for another day.

      Pete Johns you should make a video about using GarageBand with voiceover turn on because I am blind and I'm trying to learn everything about GarageBand but sometimes there are things that are not accessible for me like automation because of the voiceover. If you need tips how to use voice over before you make videos let me know and I can show you the command so you can make the videos you can turn on voiceover with Siri or just go to settings then general then accessibility then voiceover also for me and other blind people if whenever you make videos. If you can try to explain where is the button located so we can try to find it since we cannot see . I really appreciate it.

      Hi Carlos. There are quite a few folks who watch my videos who are blind or visually impaired so this could be a good idea. I have never personally used voiceover with GarageBand but it would be interesting for me to be familiar with it. I imagine it would take a while to get familiar with using voiceover at first?

    When I tell you this guy is correct about everything he said! Man.... I totally agree! Apply every tip he said and you will definitely be in the best shape possible and he's right, it's virtually impossible to 100% avoid mic bleed for vocalists because they need to have the volume high enough to hear the music properly so they can flow with it and not lose their rhythm but you definitely wanna watch the volume because too much bleed can make a great recording sound good, a good recording sound decent and a decent recording sound bad. Apply every tip he just gave you and you'll be good to go. FYI I've even heard Grammy award winning artist's acapella vocals and there was some bleed but it was minimal, never heavy and that's all you want

    Another option that might work is acquiring the noise profile of the "bleed" in the vocal recording. Like hihat, snare, or whatever is bleeding.. Isolate it and reduce it. Be careful though, too much of this will make it sound like you're underwater

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True that! You can also use a noise reduction plugin like this. th-cam.com/video/vfRsZWmTuLc/w-d-xo.html

    Hi, Pete. I’m using my iPhone to record my guitar in GarageBand, and the metronome was picked up in one of my recordings, quite clearly, even when using earbuds. Due to the fact I was recording through an iRig 2, I assumed the sound bled from my earbuds into the pickups.
    As your video suggests, shall I try and record with the metronome set to a lower volume?
    Love the videos, Pete. You’ve helped a lot!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep totally. Unfortunately this is super common with the earlier analog IRigs. Turning down the metronome helps, as does using drums as a metronome instead as I show in this one / th-cam.com/video/szZINy13keQ/w-d-xo.html

      @@stephenrowe3079 this happened in all of my earlier recordings. I was using an IRig2 into my phone. I gotta say, the interface picked up alot of noise and hum, and the backing track was loud and clear bled onto my vocals. After I got a Focusrite, my recordings were crisp, clear and noise-free. IRig is not shielded enough and it's unable to do much, because it's low-power tech.

    I got a question about microphone bleed. The scenario I am currently facing is: me and a friend are planning to record a podcast through two mics. Each of them on a tripod clamped to a table (with an adjustable arm). One Mic is the internal mic of the h1 zoom pointed to my mouth (pop filter attached to it), the other one an iphone X pointed straight to my friends mouth (selfmade pop filter attached to it). We try to have at least 60cm distance between the mics but still there is mic bleed. With this kind of setup, would you think sharing a microphone (zoom h1) and recording into one audio track would be the better alternative for our podcast. Or is there something we could do to use both of the mics and having the bleed issure somehow reduced.
    It would be awesome if anyone could help me with this. I hope I described the scenario understandable and someone could give me some advice.
    Thanks so much in advance to everyone on this channel!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Kai. Interesting situation here my friend. The biggest issue you will have with this setup is both the iPhone and Zoom have microphones that are omni-directional, meaning they are picking up more ambient sound and not just the person speaking. This is why you see folks recording podcasts facing each other and often using dynamic mics.
      So yes, in your situation you might want to instead use the same mic and do some testing to make sure your levels are balanced and mixed correctly going in. This means less editing too which is a plus.
      What’s your podcast? Feel free to share a link. I’m always keen to hear what folks are producing.

    • @kaigatz
      @kaigatz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks soo much for getting back to me man ;)
      yeah you definitely right the mic's are probably not the best for the scenario. If it was possible to keep the current scenario which two mic's / recorders would you recommend us to produce our podcast by having an eye on the budget. Don't wanna go to high in pricing but I am happy to invest in some better equipment :) if this makes life easier. Thanks again in advance for your recommendation :)
      I am more than happy to shoot you a link once we ve got everything in place but today actually we had our first recording ever... so we just started and are still testing out stuff.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great stuff! Funnily enough, I have a video all about USB mics coming out soon which will probably give you some recommendations for mics. Things like the Blue Yeti and the new Yeti Nano are really good quality USB mics and allow you to record either an individual person or in omni mode for multiple people. Or you could get two smaller and cheaper individual mics. It even a mixer or audio interface.
      There are lots of options but what I would suggest is to start recording and see how it goes then upgrade the gear as you go.

    Hola! Thank you for your tips, you are definitely the best💪, but here is my problem... if I record my voice with the iPad internal mic (for reference track) I noticed that it doesn’t bleed other instruments, but for the final voice track, when I sing through my humble Shure SM58< with a pair of in ear pods and noise cancelling🎧 (street hammer jack workers type) the bleeding happens. Any idea why that happens? Hugs

    • @Ponk_80
      @Ponk_80 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Carlos Martinez if you have a pair of ear buds and a pair of the over ear headphones, then you can play the audio through the ear buds and isolate the audio from the ears buds by also putting on the over ear headphones, without any audio in the big headphones, that way the microphone won’t pick up any audio at all.
