Geoff used to be their beatboxer before Layne took it to insane levels. It's so fun to see each of them in such varied roles in this.
Scott Porter was beatboxed before Layne though Geoff gave him some instruction.
Geoff beatboxed simultaneously with the bass as in this one.
Little bit of a timeline for you. The very first beatboxer in the group (before they were even called Voiceplay) was Scott Porter, then when he left Geoff would actually do the bass and beatboxing simultaneously during live shows, then Geoff taught Layne how to beatbox and now he's the permanent beatboxer
I've seen a video of him doing bass and percussion AT THE SAME TIME ... and my mind is blown by this man's talent and versatility.
This just goes to show how versatile each member could be.
Their Partworks series was based on requests from their patrons. Patrons suggested the song and who should participate. You'll notice that Ride is Geoff, Layne and Eli.
And Everywhere You Look is Earl and Layne! With Layne - the vocal percussionist/baritone - singing bass!
And "Love Yourself" was Eli and Geoff.

It's worth noticing that in a recent published interview with Layne, he simply said he started beatboxing at 15. I'm guessing they were all doing it.
This song (and the outro) are so so fun. I love watching this one when I need a reminder of "classic" Voiceplay. This is the stuff that they were doing that when they were really sinking their teeth into a whole string of different things to see what resonated and hit with their audience. Honestly, I think they nailed it! This is part of their "Partwork" series, just like Tennessee Whiskey...it was a series of songs where they handed the focus to a smaller group of their members, rather than the full 5-piece
This was so much fun on the livestream. Watching you break and get confused as hell when we let you know that it was just Geoff and Earl was possibly my favourite part of this reaction though... Thank you for releasing this one to the whole of youtube so we can watch it all the time...I mean, a normal amount of times... #HerdLove
This does almost have a "crooner" feel to it. It's so well done.
My favourite part is near the end - "how could I ask for more?"
On the word "ask", baritone Geoff goes up to a gorgeous high note.
Btw - Eli is behind the camera if I recall correctly.
I don’t know why, but that’s one of my favorite BTS. Yes I believe Eli was behind the camera . Because he was definitely there and there’s not a lot of lighting technology going on. Ashley is behind him boogieing because it’s shortly before the wedding. She looks so delighted pointing at Eli with a big grin.
Yep only Earl and Geoff...so dang amazing.
One of my favourites also. I love Earl in this. More than any other video with VoicePlay. It allowed him to shine. If you haven't yet seen it there is one with just Geoff and Eli: Love Yourself, the Justin Beiber song. And it's just as good.

One of my favorites that doesn’t get near enough play. I am in an age group that I had no idea about Panic at the Disco, at least by name. But I grew up listening to the rat pack and this just reminds me of those swingy jazzy songs that I just loved as a child.
I was impressed that they picked the high high tenor and the low low bass for this. Yet it still sounds like an entire group.
I think one of my favorite parts of this is Earl singing in a lower register than normal. He and Geoff got pigeonholed to a very specific range. So it’s nice to be able to watch/ hear them flex. (Sometimes when Earl hits those super high notes it hurts my ears. There’s a frequency that he and Austin Brown hit that make me wince. I don’t know if it’s just me or not. They’re incredibly talented - it’s just that sometimes it hurts my ears.😬)
Woo-hoo, one of my very favorites! (By the way, someone on youtube recently did a trombone(!) version of this, playing various trombones with separate ranges, and crediting the arrangement to Geoff!)

I wish they would do Partwork again. We know each of these men can basically cover all the part, and it's nice to see their range of talent. I've always thought, for April Fools they should put out a song with Cesar beatboxing, Layne on bass, Eli on baritone, and Geoff on tenor.

The reason this is only Earl and Geoff is this is the 4th in their Partworks series, which features focus on specific parts and vocalists. Earl sang high tenor and 2nd tenor, Geoff sang baritone, bass, and vocal percussion, and Eli shot and edited the video. Eli's then-fiancée, Ashley, also helped with the camerawork, and Kathy was doing her thing (LOL).
