Inspector John Gadget is a famous cyborg policeman with a seemingly endless amount of gadgets he can summon by saying "Go-Go-Gadget" then the gadget's name. The word "Gadget" is actually part of the name, as hinted at in some episodes. Although he has all this equipment, Gadget is ultimately incompetent and clueless (in a manner similar to the Inspector Clouseau character of the Pink Panther series), and overcomes obstacles and survives perilous situations by sheer good luck, with help from his faithful niece Penny and intelligent dog Brain who both must secretly help him solve each case. Even his gadgets often malfunction, which Gadget often deals with by exclaiming that he needs to get them fixed.

This song means a lot to me because weeks before my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and died a few months later, I walked in on him watching reruns of this late at night laughing and loving it. I then not only loved Inspector Gadget for childhood memories growing up enjoying it, but now because it's one of the last memories I had of my dad before I lost him.

I was born in '85 and mainly saw Gadget in reruns. This theme has been stuck in my head for 31 years now, even when it disappeared from the airwaves. It's just magnificent. As an adult, I find Inspector Gadget to be a little predictable and formulaic, but the enjoyment I get when revisiting it rightly crushes those more grown up thoughts under it's boots in a way I just can't deny. Inspector Gadget is a ton of fun and a treasured piece of my past. Few things can even come close to matching it for me. Well done, Dic.

Now in my adulthood I can realize how creepy it was that they had a child blurt out the name of this production company. at the end of each episode.
The composition of this song , plus the types of sounds chosen for the instruments, plus how each section mirrors themes that are repeated in the show (notice how when he opens the safe a portion of the Chief's theme plays for a moment) make this opening an incredibly intelligent use of the limited song assets for this show that sets the tone for the entire experience. Shuki Levy is one of the GOATs.
Hands down the 80s and 90s had the best cartoons!

Dick Tracy in 1940's comic books and early James Bond movies in the 1960's had a video phone watch and Inspector Gadget is a mix of Tracy , Bond , Inspector Clouseau and the main character in the spy spoof Get Smart .

This show has one of the most marvelous concepts ever for a cartoon that you could practically make a Looney Tunes short off of it.
A detective robot who is completely broken in his limitless accessibility yet is absolutely incompetent in every way and his little niece and dog have to keep him from danger without being acknowledged by him is so brilliant.
One of the best 80s properties never forgotten.
He's basically a robot version of Inspector Clousseau

Shuki Levy and Haim Saban were brilliant theme composers for cartoons in the early 1980's. This one was amazing, but, my absolute favorite was their other huge offering for none other than He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Just fantastic! 💯💥💫💥💯

even though the 80s were infamous on toy-driven shows, this one stood out as a genuinely good show, I discovered IG from an old ipad game where u could unlock episodes in-game, and then my dad told us about his childhood watching inspector gadget. It's a pretty cool show
One time, we left a car show and I was in the back seat of our car. We were cruising home when an early 80s Lotus Esprit pulled up next to us. I kid you not that thing looked so much like the gadget mobile. I was completely hearing the theme song in my head all along. I never forget that image of that car cruising next to us.

Now.. at 29 years old.. I realise ... everything in that show is real... except.. there s no inspector gadget. M.A.D is actually the representation of evil, and Dr Claw is the Devil.

Edit: Y'all talking about their first airing time. Which doesn't have to fit with when they lived.
I just thought that because inspector gadget had simpler technology than Iron Man's (in my opinion). Also the recent media about Iron Man depicts him living in 21st century, so I'd rather use that info rather than their first appearance in my granpa's comics collection.
Iron Man first appeared in comic books in 1963 20 years before Inspector Gadget appeared Gadget himself was based on a mix of James Bond , Inspector Clouseau and the main character in the spy spoof Get Smart which aired on TV around the same time as Iron Man made his first comic book appearance . So to answer your question Gadget is a possible descendant of Iron Man meaning Gadget is younger than Iron Man .
Inspector Gadget is a cyborg, so maybe he could be related to RoboCop more then Iron Man, at least that is more logical to me! ^.^

This is 1 of my best childhood program memories on #Nickelodeon's cartoons in 1980s, 1990s, and beginning of the 2000s of all time.
Since I'd truly watching it on CBS Saturday mornings late in the 1991-1992 season.
Then on The Family Channel in 1992-1995.
Then in syndication via repackaged by DiC and Bohbot in 1992-1994, but the episodes were edited and time-compressed and done for Bohbot new syndicated package.
Then in Fox Family/ABC Family in 2001.
And then in Starz Kids & Family in 2016.
Man, I really wish my kids would've been a fan of this show like I was when I was their age. I am 39 years old now and I can guarantee that they've never seen a single episode, but I remember it fondly. Even Mayor Quimby...
