I read it as 'big white conspiring to keep blacks down'. Right, of course. But but, black people just get picked on by meanie cops... right, cops only patrol black neighborhoods. Yup...
The minute Tipper Gore started slapping ratings for mature content on music, sales skyrocketed. It's just like the video game industry. Record executives knew what was making them money.
Another explanation: the people who own the labels want to make money, and know what sells, and that it sells best to future prisoners, who they can then make additional money on. Meaning: You don’t need malicious intent, or to actively control those outcomes if the outcomes are just what happens naturally. The fairy tale is that if those songs weren’t controlled, and the prisons weren’t owned, the crime rates would fall off a cliff somehow.

It's secondary whether some music executives are directly pushing for that because they have investments in private prisons. There are plenty of rappers who are all too eager to make music like that, and they don't need any pushing from anyone else to want to focus on that. Mr. Cube himself used to be like that and he has made tons of music like that, and it's fair to guess that there are people who ended up imprisoned or who are still in prison in part because of his music having had an effect on influencing and hypnotizing them to want to be involved with illegal and violent activities. Mr. Cube should really focus more on this realization that he has had, and he should really try to use his influence as much as possible to make things in hip hop music more positive.
