I'm 23 And my first serious relationship was with the guy I married. He was the second guy to present himself to my parents because they have a strict rule about them having to meet the guy I was going out with. Yes this is hard as no guy was up for that especially in the 21st century. So yes there's still strict parents out there.

My husband was brought up in an old fashioned way. His mother taught him to ask for permission to date a girl, go introduce yourself to her family and when you go to collect her for the date - don’t wait in the car! Knock on the front door and ask if she is ready to go out.
We’ve been together 13 yrs and I still find it so precious that I married an old fashioned gentleman!

A lot of gals don't realize that rules like "let him talk first" is actually a great idea, you can tell a lot about how considerate a person is by how long it takes them to ask you about your day. Also the "order your food thing" shows you how well he listens and pays attention to your needs, If someone didn't ask you about your day or was obviously not listening when they place your order you could know right away that there would not be a date #2.
My husband can order for me without asking no matter what restaurant we go to, not because I get the same thing all the time but because he really understands my needs and preferences, he has been doing this since day 1. On our 4th date when i returned to the table after using the restroom and saw the exact drink i wanted and the appetizer i wanted on the table without me ordering it, at that moment I knew he was a very attentive person.
The older i get (35) the more i realize these "old fashion norms" were actually really good ways to find out about a person's character very quickly and were actually really smart.
Now a days we spend so much time on surface level things like hobbies, and favorite books but don't have many "norms" to help us figure out someone's character besides how they treat the waiter.
As a 30 something married gal, let me give young ladies advice, figure out the guy's ethics and character, observe his action, not what he says. A lot of these old customs are great ways to see what a man is made of.

    • @melisaroman5060
      @melisaroman5060 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

Well if you put it that way, I guess it's okay, I mean I really like it when a man knows how to pay attention to the details. Still, I don't like it when someone orders for me, even if they are trying to be polite. It makes me feel as if I'm being treated like a child and that really annoys me 😅. But I guess some people like it so, it's okay.

Your sugar coating. Maybe they're talking first because they don't want to hear about anybody else. I exaggerating one for like thing for the fact that you call someone then you are the one who hangs up. But you shouldn't dominate the entire conversation. So of course if he ask someone out and they conversation with start with thank you for coming let me tell you what we're here. Then of course he would want to hear about the person

I dont see how is that bad on a date, its not really respectful to the guy if you dump all your feelings on him the first date. That could also create an unhealthy emotional dependency on someone who might not even be that great for you. So then it would hurt both people a lot more if they stopped dating. You could totally talk feelings if the relationship grew more serious and there's enough emotional security and maturity on both sides.

My boyfriend has a bit of 50s in him when it comes to dating. He believes that you have to meet parents before or early on in dating to ask permission, and he believes that he should pay for everything when we go out or get food. I know that he's only being polite, but I'm stubborn and don't want to feel like a mooch, so we always fight about the latter. We've made more cashiers than I'd like to admit nervous because we both hold out money and insist that they take ours. We finally came up with a passive-aggressive way to do this in private by allowing the other person to pay, but slipping money into their backpack or guitar case.
Yeah... I don't think I would have had a dating life in the 50s.

Imagine finding the an you marry to decide he wants to party , be unfaithful , abuse you after a few kids or few years of marriage. You wouldn't have any options to leave because the jobs a woman could get paid less than minimum wages . woman may have lost some things but ......you decide if the loss was worth it. My mom married just that kind of man . had 4 kids and jobs paid very little , he paid even less to help , I think it was 0.00$$ he gave mom to help with clothes , food home etc. Options are much better now , I think.

I don’t like when people play hard to get, but I don’t mind waiting for an answer when it comes to those sorts of things. Love isn’t immediate and emotions take time to process. I think that the guy ordering was too be considerate of his budget, not that the girl was not allowed to speak in public. Also, things were much simpler then, more considerate, common courtesy, and a girl wouldn't have such a picky food order out would be a burger and fries ans a coke or shake. And the burger wasn't a double quarter pounder with bacon and cheese, lol.

In the 'dating culture' in my country, when you pay for yourself, it means you're just hanging out as friends, it's not a date. It's also a polite way of showing the guy it won't lead to any type of romantic relationship, so he doesn't have his hopes high. Still, you can have a great time together in this 'just friends' atmosphere.
I really like it because you can get to know the person really well before you move on to any romance. And if it stays in this 'just friends' mode, there are no hard feelings.

He said boys were expected to act like gentlemen, walking the girl back home, meeting her parents before the date, no sex or sexual touching, etc. I asked him if the stereotype men/boys beat their gfs/wives was true. He opened his eyes wide and said “GOODNESS NO, at least I never saw or heard any evidence of it. I’m sure there were terrible men but slapping your gf was not a social norm. I always made sure to act like a gentleman, otherwise no second dates and her friends will hear about it!”

My parents raised me very traditional, I never knew why I didn’t give my own order to the waiter. My husband used to get upset when I’d tell him. This video cleared that up for me.

The thing with the pin that the girls would wear. That changed a bit seeing as how I'm in highschool currently. The girl gives the guy a scrunchie to show that. It's cute and kinda funny

The part of wearing a ring to symbolize that you date is super common where I live! **countryside** Even 13 year olds with their first boyfriends use it!
And the man ordering food and not the woman too, most waiters don't even like talking directly to women because some men are very offended 🙄

Honestly, you just earned a new subscriber! I love how it doesn’t matter if you’re old fashioned or not when it comes to you and you accept everyone! I myself love the 70s/80s and would love to live in that period of time! I also love other periods but 70s and 80s are my favorites!❤️❤️❤️

My boyfriend likes to order my food at the restaurant so I tell him my order in advance. I had no idea it was so old fashioned lol 😝

I feel like I came out of this decade. My parents were always strict. They always needed to know who I was going out with and was there a chaperone and who, the man always had to ask the girl out in my family, the woman never paid, I had to know about the plans at least 2 days ahead or God forbid my parents decide to make plans for me to help them in any way and I go out instead of helping. Also wasn't allowed to be drunk in public(my parents' rules, not the bf). Lately I've been fighting some of these rules but because they were so ingrained in me I don't even realize that they're still there, these self boundaries.
