Flamu: great format and analysis comparing strengths and weaknesses. Z-52 torps don't have as much alpha damage BUT they can still start floods. My damage is low in Z-52 but win rate is highest of T-10 DDs. Shimakaze still is strong despite nerf. Those torps are SO powerful despite the high reaction time. 3 sets of 5 each gives you so much flexibility. Radio Location is very helpful on the Shima. Khabarovsk is the only ship I do better in when I'm really frustrated or just plain angry. Damage output is huge; however, it's harder for me to carry in a pure gun boat. I used the 10 km torps a lot and miss them. 6 km is just absurd. Gearing handles so badly and torp reload is so long that I prefer the Fletcher.
How does the Gearing handle badly? Yes, the Fletcher is tier for tier a better ship, but besides being slightly slower what significant changes to the handling characteristics are there?
As someone who just unlocked the Z-46 yesterday, I'm really looking forward to pushing through and getting the Z-52. The German DD line (at least in Tier 7 and 8) has been a ton of fun with great guns (although mediocre HE damage on the Maass and slower reload on the Z-23), great torps and that glorious, glorious hydro that counters just about anything that gets cocky and tries to pick a fight with you. It's also a ton of fun to just pump salvo after salvo of 150 mm AP into a broadside BB or cruiser who thinks a DD doesn't pose a threat to them and try to push my smoke screens in the Z-23.
i personally think the z-52 is the best. quick torpedo rearm of 90s vs 136. 46 seconds faster and as a dd torpedo rearm is more important than amount in 1 salvo. and while the guns not being better than the gearing in rate of fire the gearing has very high arcs making the z-52 able to more accurately hit the gearing.
Nice review of the T1- DDs. I figured that this would be the answer; "it's situational" is something I've noticed happening even at tier 5 and 6, and it makes sense it'd keep on that way.
I found Z-52, Shima and Khaba quite and strong, Gearing is somewhat falling behind, especially because Z-52 makes fighting on a cap extremly difficult. In order to use your guns you have to use Smoke and get close, right into the range of several radars, since stealthfiring isnt possible anymore. If you team Up, this ship excels well, if you don't have any teammates to rely on, it can be quite hard sometimes.
Great informative vid, looking forward to similar vids for the other classes. As for the DD it starts to look like the Fletcher will take the position as alpha DD.
I just got the Shimmy and the Stock torps are ...... well ... 20k and S l o w .. and spotted from outer space .... but I have had a lot of fun with them .. ambushing as they come round Islands or in smoke and some time they just don't think they will last that long and it doesn't end well for them lol . so for my play style ... I love the Shimmy

Some changes I'd like to make to WoWS: 1. When a BB or cruiser launch a fighter and then come under CV attack and the player under attack clicks on a particular squadron to focus AAA then the fighter also attacks that squadron...the ability to vector fighters in a non CV 2. Only spotting aircraft can spot ship launched torpedoes. 3. The ability to have different main turrets loaded with different ammo. ie turrets 1 and 2 with AP and turret 3 with HE 4. Give CV's the ability to customize their load out so long as they have at least 1 squadron per plane type. And while were at it with CV's give IJN cv's a kamikaze last strike kind of deal. Say
for any T10 ships (especially t10) The answer to this question is simple: the one you like/prefer to play. I mean theses ships cruisers, dds and bbs are all excellent ships. I mean its the top of each nation's line should not be a hassle. They all good and or have good particularities

Man, I really wished WG would finish the alternative DD branch all the way to tier X. The current apex of the subbranch, the Akizuki, is insanely fun to play and imho downright tier IX material with just a couple miniscule tweaks. I'd say replace the Akizuki with another ship for tier VIII (perhaps a modified version of an existing DD class to fill the gap), move the Akizuki to tier IX with a couple minor manouverability buffs and give it the option to mount Defensive AA in the same slot as the Torpedo Reload Boost. Then make the tier X of that line the Super-Akizuki class (essentially the same as the Akizuki, but a bit faster, a couple more 25mm AA guns and a single quintuple torpedo launcher), again with the choice between Defensive AA and the Torpedo Reload Boost.
The fun thing is the Japanese during WWII played with the idea of a faster Akizuki with similar guns but with 6 torpedoes and 37 knots speed. However Japan has enough paper DDs for now.

Excellent vid Flamu. Quick question: I have recently got the Gearing and have found myself comparing it to the Fletcher... Not especially favorably.... Fletcher is stealthier, has better (feeling at least) guns, is faster and more maneuverable, has a slimmer profile, harder hitting torps, etc. The question is how (when) is the Gearing better? Or; How should I change my play to suit the Gearing better?

I missed a little bit the hint and gameplay of the Z-52 when it comes to AP. There are still a lot of ships that do not care about broadsiding to a Z-52 which allows it to hammer 5k+ AP salvos in their fat belly (and bow/stern). German DDs can absolutely wreck cruisers and BBs with AP when they are bold enough to show their side. The AP is probably the biggest strength of the german DDs that's why I don't understand why it was not mentioned at all in this video.

what does DPM stand for? Also forget team play, in Random you are basically on your own. Also I want a dd that has great concealment vs torps, and I want to do a lot of torping vs using the guns. If I wanted to use guns, I'd use a cruiser or BB.
Khaba can cap (cos lul 48.7kts can reach cap quick on large maps), do damage, spot, tank damage, and do area denial against ships of almost all classes (only KMDDs and RNCLs have tools to do area denial against a Khaba). Also, I would hardly consider baiting the enemy's first salvo (and thus getting them spotted) "poor teamplay" nor would I consider lack of smoke a downside. I play very aggressively in it and have an average of 2 mil potential damage. I think it is fine. It teamplays in a different way from other DDs, but the fact that the only counter to it are KM BBs and a unicum IJN CV tells me this shit is great.
Why does Flamu say the Khaba is the worst for teamplay? Part of teamplay is to atract incoming fire, building up received potential damage. @Niro DeLacie: I'd bet on the Mino either.
Not sure why but I always see Shimakaze's in my T10 matches, honestly even with its buffed concealment recently the DD is still underwhelming and a 1 trick pony. It can easily be killed by other T10 - T9 DD's that aren't on the same line as the Shima. In terms of contesting capture points it is so passive that it really all comes down to if the enemy team wants to contest or not and not because the ship is anything to worry about. Matter of fact every time I see a Random T10 match with more than 1 Shima I already know the outcome... the team with the most Shima's lose 70% of the time regardless if that Shima has 2-3 kills. So it kinda confuses me as to why its so popular even by today's radar and radio finding filled matches.
Answer this for me please: Why are the Gearing's torps stealthier than Shimikaze's?! Historically, the IJN "Long Lances" were the biggest, hardest hitting longest ranged and stealthiest torps in the world at the time....

This video really shows how little the Shima has going for it when other DDs can almost torp as well as the only thing it can do. It doesn't even have a real concealment advantage anymore which is the other supposed strength. Wow all of .1km difference now that's some BS when you look at the size differences. Can't really buff the torps without making it OP but maybe something like capping slighty faster, better concealment, different consumable( since almost every other DD gets three to the Shimas two), or something that would make it a better scout.
If you want to play for the team, smoke screen expert has little effect. It is not about the girth of the smoke screen, it is about how you use it. Long strokes of smoke instead of fat puffs. :)
Okay so. Shima: good for slowing and weakening a Enemy's Push. Gearing: Great Team play, not a Solo ship more on the torpedo end Z-52: Domination Cap DD Grosavoi: Good team play but more on the solo gun end Khab: Hunter Killer DD cruiser best foe carrying solo with guns. So more balanced then I thought... Interesting.
Grozovoi can be good when divisionned up with something like a Shima or a Khaba. It's interesting in division play. (As long as you're good. it's one of the hard ships to do well in). in the Grozovoi, you just don't want to eat BB AP, Random Torps, A Khaba, or a Cruiser support a DD you're 1v1-ing
Hey flamu , nice video!! .. i have the shimakaze and how you say .. with a lot of radar and hydro is hard to hit a torp or win a gunfight .. i can supp my team but dealing less than 100k dmg losing credits and that's not fun :( You forgot that detail. Shimakaze can't cap , Can't win a gunfight , Worst guns than any other DD TX , 2mint torps reload time...Worst DD in game..Just my humble opinion ..
Cap contesting isn't really about gunning the enemy destroyers down, rather spotting them for your team. They should be the ones to do the majority of the damage. You can't solo an enemy dd but it is very rarely a 1vs1 situation.
Can you please redo your old Des Moines vs 10 Hosho/Hind vs 10 Hosho and maybe add Henry vs Hosho video? A lot has changed since than and it would be fun to learn who rules the skies this time

i think this is one of the better ship review vids. Tier/class gives more perspective than other styles.

Well considering the only tier 10 dd I have is the Z-52, I am going to have to go with that.

Z - 52, the torps are ONLY 14k... lol. Another excellent video flamu
every 60 seconds. Basically, when they reach you, his torps have reloaded and already on their way. One minute is 2 BB reloads, keep that in mind

Gearing is thicc but short and manuverable with good dps. Imo the most reliable and versatile.
I love hybrid DDs, so I'm probably going to go for the Z-52 for my next T10. Also, Hydro. And it's darn good Hydro at that.

I like to play with the shima, its a good disruptor ship. Shima at the end game, if you know how to play, can be really dangerous.

At close range, definitely the Mino. However, anything at more than 8km is in the Khab's favor due to Mino's rainbow arcs.

the simple answer is because Shima was overpowered, and they forgot about the Gearing. (it has 16.5km torps for crying out loud)

Give it fuking yueyang torpedo stealthiness, it won't be broken and those Noobs that sail in straight line can cry in their own room and not on forums

This video really shows how little the Shima has going for it when other DDs can almost torp as well as the only thing it can do. It doesn't even have a real concealment advantage anymore which is the other supposed strength. Wow all of .1km difference now that's some BS when you look at the size differences. Can't really buff the torps without making it OP but maybe something like capping slighty faster, better concealment, different consumable( since almost every other DD gets three to the Shimas two), or something that would make it a better scout.

If you want to play for the team, smoke screen expert has little effect. It is not about the girth of the smoke screen, it is about how you use it. Long strokes of smoke instead of fat puffs. :)

Shima: good for slowing and weakening a Enemy's Push.
Gearing: Great Team play, not a Solo ship more on the torpedo end
Z-52: Domination Cap DD
Grosavoi: Good team play but more on the solo gun end
Khab: Hunter Killer DD cruiser best foe carrying solo with guns.
So more balanced then I thought...

Grozovoi can be good when divisionned up with something like a Shima or a Khaba. It's interesting in division play. (As long as you're good. it's one of the hard ships to do well in). in the Grozovoi, you just don't want to eat BB AP, Random Torps, A Khaba, or a Cruiser support a DD you're 1v1-ing

Hey flamu , nice video!! .. i have the shimakaze and how you say .. with a lot of radar and hydro is hard to hit a torp or win a gunfight .. i can supp my team but dealing less than 100k dmg losing credits and that's not fun :( You forgot that detail. Shimakaze can't cap , Can't win a gunfight , Worst guns than any other DD TX , 2mint torps reload time...Worst DD in game..Just my humble opinion ..
Cap contesting isn't really about gunning the enemy destroyers down, rather spotting them for your team. They should be the ones to do the majority of the damage. You can't solo an enemy dd but it is very rarely a 1vs1 situation.
