I have strong evidence that "A Christmas Carol" wasn't written by Dickens, but rather by Mathew Franklin Whittier, younger brother of poet John Greenleaf Whittier, and his wife, Abby Poyen. Abby died in 1841, and when Dickens visited Boston about a year later in 1842, Mathew--being friends with Oliver Wendell Holmes--would have met Dickens and given him their manuscript. In 1843, needing something to get him out of debt, hurriedly revised the manuscript within six weeks, and self-published what, to him, was a "Ghost Story of Christmas," even though Abby had infused authentic occult principles into it. Abby Poyen was a deep student of mysticism, including the Eastern teachings.
