(spoiler alert) nathan would do anything to be with his lover richard (dickey). he even dropped his glasses on purpose at crime scene, so they would get arrested and put in prison cell together. richard found it out afterward. and he got upset about nathan being so obsessive and possesive over him. basically he means 'you would even get pregnant to keep me beside if you could.' by that line.
I don't know why, but that one line near the end that Dickey says about "If you could get pregnant you would, wouldn't you?" just gets under my skin - something about him getting that much into his partner's face I guess...
I just saw the 1959 "original" movie, called "Compulsion", and there was no reference to the killers being gay. Guess the topic was too sensitive for back then. They were two very sick individuals -- but their sexual preference had nothing to do with them being so.
It's not glorified. Did you even watch the movie? In fact, a large chunk of the gay and lesbian community abhorred this movie after its release because they thought the film portrayed homosexuals in a negative light, with the characters as examples of the "killer queen" stereotype that is commonly found in cinema. Get your facts straight before you go around making homophobic statements.
"If you could get pregnant you would, wouldn't you?" What the hell was that supposed to mean? Apart from that, the movie is great, I loved the whole "film noir" atmosphere.
the movie is based on a highly publicized true case in the 1920's. i saw this movie when it originally came out in 1991 and although it is stylistically appealing, it was never glorified in the gay press.
I watched a documentary on them when I was younger and it completely left out the gay part, either that or I don't remember. Either way I'm gonna watch this.
@JRF1961 Gay people aren't the ones to blame. Society constantly makes movies that glorify and romanticize murderers, whores, and crime bosses. So I would leave the 'Gay' press comment out of it.
good classic movie romantic and sad "Nathan Leopold &Richard Loeb" Gray love, faded memories for eternity *cut out the murder Their love was seen as wrong anyway. (Sexuality in the past Being seen as wrong, some people are afraid to admit very different from the present) 🤟"...
Naw. Two big guys killing a defenseless kid for whatever reason, it's a dealbreaker for me to not watch this movie, however well-made otherwise. No to Swoon!

Thank you for that. I need to check out this movie.
This movie is far, far, FAR better than the trailer would indicate.
I saw this movie when I was very young and I'd love to see it again!!!!!!

Keith Wright Rope came first.

the music is wonderful
I love this movie. It's awesome. The real people were sick and deserved to die, but the actors are hot and are awesome to watch make out!
"If you could get pregnant you would, wouldn't you?"
What the hell was that supposed to mean? Apart from that, the movie is great, I loved the whole "film noir" atmosphere.
"You would do anything to keep us together, wouldn't you?"
“You’d do anything to get caught, wouldn’t you?”

I love this movie so much! This movie shows how prejudice the United States judicial system once was. This film is worth watching!

Ahh, thank you.
I find it amusing that phrenology was actually taken seriously back then
What are phrens for?
@gyqz Ahaahaha! that's a good eye there. I suppose the director hired who ever was available.
Where's Sure Fire 1990?
what did he mean by that line?
That he would do anything to get caught.
I got a great story.

One thing that is a bit out of context : A black woman working as a stenographer in court in those days???
are they not gay?
Lol 2019
Instead of "Swoon" it should be titled "Belch."
