I got dysentery and cholera at the same time. I was walking to my porch and my arms and face went numb and I couldn't walk and felt weak then I randomly started ejecting from both ends and felt like I got blown up by a bomb (litteraly) so I got rushed by and ambulance and them nurses with those ivs litteraly saved my life. Mad respect to all sailors that got that stuff

I caught dysentery once. As bad as you think it is it’s much worse. I don’t see how anyone could possibly survive it without medical intervention. As soon as you drink anything the water touching the bottom of your stomach triggers the small intestine & then large intestine to start spasming. Then you hear gurgling & you have about 20-30 seconds to make it to your favorite pooping spot. If you were also vomiting I think you’d probably die within a day or two. After you start feeling really dehydrated you start freaking out/obsessing about how you can retain water but it’s impossible. I thought I just had food poisoning for the first 2-3 days but it just kept getting worse. I thought I was going to die until I got to a hospital. As bad as I felt I could feel the effects of the IV drip after about 10 minutes. The whole ordeal mentally scarred me to the point I overcook everything & wont eat anything I think has a chance of making me sick and I won’t go to any country that doesn’t have clean water & plumbing. I shudder just thinking about it. The headache the gurgling guts the dry skin the sandpaper tongue & the taste I had in my mouth 🤢 I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

You weren’t in Israel were you? They use opium to stop dysentery, or they used to. Watched this girl drink a few ounces. Highest person I ever saw. Apparently it stops the diarrhea cold too. Seems kinder, what you went through sounds awful.

@@dianelipson5420 Interesting! I'm in Canada, but I remember that when I had E.Coli and was in terrible pain (as well as spewing bloody yuck out both ends), one of the things the nurses put in my IV was Dilaudid. Not opium, but an opioid. I wonder if it was used as more than just a very effective painkiller? I have to say, the relief alone was blissful, and then I fell asleep for a good few hours!

I’ve had salmonella food poisoning and it was absolutely horrible, but not as bad as dysentery, I was only vomiting and diarrhea atst for a day and it took me and my ex almost two weeks to be able to do anything and I’m just grateful our eldest son didn’t eat any of what we ate 😢 note to self, if there’s a grocery strike going on, don’t go to the affected stores and buy discounted meat 😮

Origin of the Term Poop Deck The term “poop deck” originated from the French word “La Poupe, ” which means “the stern.” Therefore, the poop deck refers to the stern deck. The stern deck was traditionally the tallest deck of the ship and was used for navigation, steering, and observation of the crew.

And how did Pirates wash their hands? Wipe their bums after going to toilet by pooping over the side of the ship or the buckets of waste? The drinking water on ships would have to last weeks or months and was usually filthy after a week or two. But what else was there to drink that was not contaminated.

0:17 Bloody flux? The disease that immediately pops to mind is of course m Dysentery! Which considering the living conditions doesn’t exactly come as a surprise! In fact I’m sure they were at risk of more serious illnesses ! Considering sanitation, close quarters and rancid meat, I’d be very surprised if their digestive systems were riddled with parasites! Damn Miasmas, the ship and crew likely stunk and of course that’s what caused all diseases, as we all know! I don’t imagine any ship was good for your health . But don’t worry, the barber surgeon will have you good as dead as soon as he gets your humors back in balance and of course, we all know the best treatment for rectal bleeding 🩸 is a good blood letting. If you’re losing lots of blood, nothing like draining out more! You’ll be cured to death in no time!
