Ladies and gentlemen, here is the Starker (or the Fournier, or the Gendron, or the Rostropovich, as you prefer) of the next generation. Since I am living in Italy, where I arrived back in 1980, I do hope that he will come and perform for us here in Milan. He is awesome!

Watched this again today. To me, this defines perfection.
This is beyond impressive! And I could be mistaken, but is he playing with a band aid on his first finger? If so, I am even more stunned! He makes it soud so easy and it´s played so gracefully. Will come back to watch this again for sure!

What cello is this?
John-Henry is from a musical family and performs on the 200 year old European cello smuggled out of Austria in 1938 by his grandfather, cellist Dr. Robert Popper.
Robert Popper? Is there some sort of lineage that I was unaware of?

Das Stück ist mit maestoso überschrieben, feierlich und gemessen soll es damit sein. Respekt davor, es als prestissimo spielen zu können, aber es trägt dem Ansinnen des Komponisten nur bedingt Rechnung. Der Daumen geht da nicht nach oben.
