No I look at each artist, band , song , lyrics , messages individual. I mostly listen to the art form of the over all sound. As I am working on some Goth type of music myself . I just don’t like the dark oriented messages and the negativity in what it brings . They tend to bring more of hopelessness then hope . For example a recent song called Pray for me talks about the mistrust in the religion sect but doesn’t really offer hope. The other things is some of these artist are into more darker things and this I don’t want to do anything with that .
I agree, some Goth music is just trash, even though the instrumentals are great. I will always have a love for Goth Rock and Deathrock in my bones, but these days, lean heavily toward Industrial.
