It's interesting watching these old episodes because it makes it more obvious how far the show has come. Back in the early days the show the top priority was entertainment, so they really tried to keep it lighthearted the whole time. I remember often being dissatisfied because at times it felt like they really should take the concern more seriously, or because the guest with the concern was obviously still unhappy. They tended to try to quickly settle the matter without having to get in too deeply and then end it with a neat little bow. In more recent episodes you can tell they're definitely trying to shift the focus from pure comedy to primarily focused on seriously addressing the concerns while sprinkling in humor to keep it lighthearted overall and not let the tone stay down for too long. But they get far more deep into matters, even asking difficult questions when necessary. They're even brought in experts in certain cases, like one with a girl who obviously had an eating disorder. What I'm trying to say is watching these old episodes really makes me appreciate how this show is obviously trying to make an effort to keep it entertainment while also really trying to help the guests with a concern. Obviously sometimes it can still be frustrating, often due to cultural differences (things that to us might clearly seem wrong might be deeply ingrained in Korean culture and therefore will be far more difficult to change). But these old episodes can be WAY more frustrating, lol. Hello Counselor is, at it's core, still an entertainment show so they're never going to completely do away with the comedy, or change the MCs to health professionals or anything like that (although I would LOVE if they at least brought on one psychologist to the cast who can offer professional insight). But I hope they keep moving in this direction!
The guy that sounds like a girl.... I totally understand his issues. I'm a girl and I sound like a guy. Especially on the phone. I have a really low, husky and raspy voice. I often have to change my voice to sound more feminine because people always think I'm weird because of my voice. I feel bad for him since I understand him so well.

I'm sure he's seen doctors--cancers require follow-up. What I think he should do is work the "cute". He has a total baby-face. He needs to let the hair feather down a bit and get contacts or cute glasses and work the "I'm small and adorable" angle. Some girls adore that. I always feel like the editor of hello counselor is a fan of Hyesung because she/he always shows Hyesung's reactions and smiling face whenever Shinhwa is on this show, or maybe it's because Hyesung has a very eye-friendly face and a very pretty smile with expressive eyes and that's why they show him the most for the viewers. Well, it could be both but I have no complaints because he's my bias and I can take captures of him every moment XD He has a very attractive, manly and yet comforting deep voice that makes people want to listen to his words. He is also a respectful and thoughtful human who is very well aware of his surroundings and truly cares about how he behaves so that he doesn't hurt anyone with his reactions. I admire how precise he is with his words and actions.
The last concern was horrible, yeah it's not healthy to be obese but being underweight isnt either. You're also not gaining needed nutrients when eating only one food, this can leave the body really malnourished and the person can get sick a lot easier. If your daughters health is your highest concern, then be healthy, don't starve her.

I think some people are over-reacting towards the girl's weight issues and how Shinhwa actually reacted towards it. If you actually calculate her bmi, she's slightly overweight, and if it continues, health issues will arise. If you're obese, you can't lie. It's better to face the truth than to continue. From shinhwa's perspective, they cannot do anything to help her as well, but only to motivate. The most logical way of motivating a fan is to give a VIP concert ticket. If she actually loses the weight, then it's a good thing for her as well. This program is actually good. It's one of the most interesting program ever. Why? It makes people realize how bad their problem can be and it actually mends relationships, clear misunderstandings and actually make others realize their own's issues as well. There are a lot of the same kind out there.

Because for all I know Shinhwa members DO NOT support excessive&reckless diet and even discouraged it to be done (Shinhwa Broadcast Ep 24). This is so wrong that it been edited, but if we pay closely attention we could see that Shinhwa do not agree with the diet method. 1. Jinnie said the members was so worry when Dongwannie himself undergo excessive diet. 2. Their expression and off comment show their sympathy for the daughter ("how can you live like that?") 3. i think that slimming down at her age is rather good actually, because when she get older, she might gain weight and then it will be harder to lose it, and im not saying this because of appearances and looks, but bc health can be hard to maintain once you are old. I'm an overweight girl 18 yo, and i wished my parents were strict with me when i was a kid, im trying to lose weight but its really hard when you are in college and facing lots of other life problems

I agree that sometimes the concerns are unhealthy but it's actulaly a really good show. Not only the 4 hosts funny, the famous guests add some flair, and the audience like a little family, but I love hearing about the concerns. There's been some really touching moments between friends and families on this show. AND the winner's do get money prizes to help them in whatever they need. Plus, it's always good to talk about one's concerns and this show is a great outlet for that. So entertaining too!
The Kim Jiwu dude, I thought it was actually kinda cute with his voice. It reminded me of aegyo, but instead of doing it on purpose, it's just natural. So it's like having him do aegyo all the time.

Usually when I watch this show I love how the stars react to the different situations but I definitely did not like the last one. That girl is NOT fat! The show is called Counselor, but it lacks the counseling part from the guests/celebrities. I'd like to see more on the guests/celebrities' advices/counselings and want to hear more thoughts from them on the issues - that, in my opinion, will make the show more impressive and meaningful besides entertainment. Btw, I've been watching Korean idol groups for a while and so far, to me, all Shinwa's members are so manly and good looking out of all the other men groups!!! Maybe because they are older

I always feel like the editor of hello counselor is a fan of Hyesung because she/he always shows Hyesung's reactions and smiling face whenever Shinhwa is on this show, or maybe it's because Hyesung has a very eye-friendly face and a very pretty smile with expressive eyes and that's why they show him the most for the viewers. Well, it could be both but I have no complaints because he's my bias and I can take captures of him every moment XD
He has a very attractive, manly and yet comforting deep voice that makes people want to listen to his words. He is also a respectful and thoughtful human who is very well aware of his surroundings and truly cares about how he behaves so that he doesn't hurt anyone with his reactions. I admire how precise he is with his words and actions.
The last concern was horrible, yeah it's not healthy to be obese but being underweight isnt either. You're also not gaining needed nutrients when eating only one food, this can leave the body really malnourished and the person can get sick a lot easier. If your daughters health is your highest concern, then be healthy, don't starve her.
on top of everything Shinwa also think that she is overweight and offered her vip treatment if she slims down, now this girl will starve herself just to go to that convert wtf

People who watch this vid and also KBS themselves should read it. The last segment totally made SHINHWA looks like a bunch of douche and in the end saying tat it "wasn't a concern". The show was edited in a wrong way people, I was shocked too hearing Dongwan's words, but cant help feeling odd, cos its soo not like him. After I read the link, now I know. It wasn't a concern cos Dongwan resolved the issue with all his suggestions and comments (which they edited it out). Shinhwa may be bunch of (adorable) dorks, but they are not simple-minded- "outside appearance only matters"- kinda of douche~. Minwoo himself like more healthy body rather than skinny girl~

yes, that's why I was shocked. when I heard dongwan i was like, what? what are u saying wannie?? he himself is like an "obsessed " for heath and other members say he's always taking care of everyone with vitamins and other stuffs, so I couldn't believe and when he's talking u can notice from his tone that he was gonna say something else and just was cut suddenly by editing. that's why I searched. I remembered an episode of shinhwa broadcast (the end of ep 24) when they talked about people losing weight when it's not necessary and the ulhealthy diets :)

I think some people are over-reacting towards the girl's weight issues and how Shinhwa actually reacted towards it. If you actually calculate her bmi, she's slightly overweight, and if it continues, health issues will arise. If you're obese, you can't lie. It's better to face the truth than to continue.
From shinhwa's perspective, they cannot do anything to help her as well, but only to motivate. The most logical way of motivating a fan is to give a VIP concert ticket. If she actually loses the weight, then it's a good thing for her as well.
This program is actually good. It's one of the most interesting program ever. Why? It makes people realize how bad their problem can be and it actually mends relationships, clear misunderstandings and actually make others realize their own's issues as well. There are a lot of the same kind out there.

I love Shinhwa but I cannot believe they supported the mother. The girl is not even that fat! Just a little chubby but NOT fat. And says who that fat = unhealthy. Thin people can also have diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses related to obesity too.

Because for all I know Shinhwa members DO NOT support excessive&reckless diet and even discouraged it to be done (Shinhwa Broadcast Ep 24). This is so wrong that it been edited, but if we pay closely attention we could see that Shinhwa do not agree with the diet method.
1. Jinnie said the members was so worry when Dongwannie himself undergo excessive diet.
2. Their expression and off comment show their sympathy for the daughter ("how can you live like that?")
3. Dongwannie clearly stated "You cant do that." when the mother said there's no limit in dieting.
4. Minwoo outright glaring at the mother saying the daughter could die!
So yeah, knowing Shinhwa, what this episode trying to show is really confusing. So thank you for the link and clear it up for me.

i think that slimming down at her age is rather good actually, because when she get older, she might gain weight and then it will be harder to lose it, and im not saying this because of appearances and looks, but bc health can be hard to maintain once you are old. I'm an overweight girl 18 yo, and i wished my parents were strict with me when i was a kid, im trying to lose weight but its really hard when you are in college and facing lots of other life problems

I agree that sometimes the concerns are unhealthy but it's actulaly a really good show. Not only the 4 hosts funny, the famous guests add some flair, and the audience like a little family, but I love hearing about the concerns. There's been some really touching moments between friends and families on this show. AND the winner's do get money prizes to help them in whatever they need. Plus, it's always good to talk about one's concerns and this show is a great outlet for that. So entertaining too!

I guess Koreans only care about what they see on the outside and not what is on the inside. I can only imagine what this girl is going through when her own mother sees her obese when obviously she is not. Mothers are supposed to love their child/children no matter what without criticizing them. That is not a good message not only to Korean girls (which i think they all think the same as the mother) but to other girls who are obsessed with South Korea because of the idols, they all want to be skin and bones and full of plastic surgeries because they don't love themselves. Pity...

There's nothing wrong in controlling your weight and going on a diet. But be sure that it's a healthy diet and will make you, not just physically confident, but also emotionally and mentally assured.
So I kinda feel bad for the girl. I mean, she's maybe a bit overweight for her height but the way her mum is forcing her to trim down only pushes her to eat more if she has the chance. Shinhwa's MinWoo's advice (if the girl loses weight, she's get a VIP ticket to their concert) is a bit ok, it's somehow motivational and not pushy. I just hope the girl didn't do the crash diet just to get that VIP pass.

Usually when I watch this show I love how the stars react to the different situations but I definitely did not like the last one. That girl is NOT fat! Usually they say something to the person causing the problem but it's like they completely thought that mom was correct. Even though I did not like that part I still love the show and Shinhwa!!

The show is called Counselor, but it lacks the counseling part from the guests/celebrities. I'd like to see more on the guests/celebrities' advices/counselings and want to hear more thoughts from them on the issues - that, in my opinion, will make the show more impressive and meaningful besides entertainment. Btw, I've been watching Korean idol groups for a while and so far, to me, all Shinwa's members are so manly and good looking out of all the other men groups!!! Maybe because they are older
That's my mom ✋who keeps talking over n over, it is good that she is so cheerful n friendly, but sometimes she doesnt listen to others story n opinions, n often has arguments with my dad, but I love her the most 😭😭
I was watching it normally and enjoying it when that last concern problem came up, & I dont know why I had to stop it because I just felt so many emotions at once, and very displeased.
