Why is it everytime I find something interesting on TH-cam theres always arguments and cussing for coments... Its like watching a good movie and u can hear people talking away like there at home in there living room... Always gotta ruined a good thing...
saimone Fiji, the fellow in this vid is explaining the history behind the sites connected with legends of his village, Tufutafoe. On the first site, he explains the history and name of the little rock wall. The name of the wall is “Pa-le-sopoia, meaning in English: wall that can’t/mustn’t be crossed (or breached). In olden times, it is said that the property on the other side of the wall belonged to spirits/monsters. Whenever the monsters were present, you weren’t allowed to cross over the wall unless you turned and went back to where you came, then return crossing over the wall backwards and continue walking backwards till you are off property. Hence, the proverb among the villagers, “The belly becomes the back and the back becomes the belly.” About the second site, he explains the existence of the steps of rocks. According to the story, a Lady named Apa’ula fled from Fiji in grief because her brothers killed her son. The man doesn’t mention this in the story, but I think the version I heard was the brothers ate Apa’ula’s son. Anyway, she came to her lover, Vaea, on Upolu island, the father of their child, and told him about the matter. But he couldn’t do a thing because he was turning into a mountain. His whole body had turned into a mountain, from foot to neck. Before his head turned to stone, he told her to go see his brother on Savaii island, at the village depicted in this video. She arrives and finds the boy catching butterflies. His name is Vaatausili. Then she follows the boy to this site and she builds the steps of the rocks. The man in this vid doesn’t explain why she built it. The third site, the cave, is said to have been the residence of Vaatausili. The boy told Apa’ula that he will go to his cave to sleep, then he’ll avenge the killing of her son. Then he slept and later woke up and presented his body to Apa’ula and asks, “How is this body?” She replies, “Your body/ physical stature is far from what I am hoping for.” The boy then goes back to sleep, comes back the next morning to present himself to her again. She still wasn’t satisfied. Then the boy tells her he’ll go sleep one more time. He wakes up the next morning, he has grown in size. The man in the vid says Vaatausili was as wide as the mouth of the cave he is in. Apa’ula was pleased. Hence, a famous proverb in Samoa, “Ua ‘atoa tino o le tama.” Meaning: “The boy’s body is complete/full.” The man doesn’t mention this, but today, whenever someone fully recovers from an illness or injury, or energy is restored after resting from a tiring day or task, people would say this proverb, “Ua ‘atoa tino o le tama” or “Ua ‘atoa tino o Vaatausili. When I have time, I’ll explain to you the last two sites. Vinaka.
