The drive is one of the most important shots in pickleball. If you're at the baseline and you're not going to hit a drop, then you're most likely going to have to hit a drive. Without a good drive, you won't be able to put any pressure on your opponent at the net. Check out the basics of the drive in this video!

Superb video. For me (right handed) it was important to learn to lower my right shoulder on forehand and backhand in addition to lowering the paddle face.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video
Thanks!
Incredible! Love your videos. Thx
Glad you like them!
That last drill is absolutely killer I’m definitely excited to use it
👍🏻👍🏻
Bossier city la really needs this franchise. There aren’t any indoor courts except for a few at a church someone needs to open this here please !,
Find an investor and give them the link in the description
Video was very clear and helpful (and included many things I need to work on).
👍🏻👍🏻
As always, we’ll done!!! I do like how you made this video buddy!
Thanks Anthony!
Jordan, wow another great one , loved it , I am like a sponge when you post videos! You are holding new paddle, hmmm 🤔 thanks for the instruction.
Yes I am!
Thanks B! Great drill and ground stroke breakdown.
Np !
Excellent. Love your video's. Wonderful job of explaining techniques.
Thanks Jeff!
Can we get a video dedicated to digging out balls slammed at us? Ones that are a worse situation than a normal reset. You made a distinction between those in one of your pods.
This is how to dig out smashes.

Can you teach how left handed players need to train basic techniques
The same way right handers should ! By drilling good technique!
steve scott
this was a very informative viedo the stroke Technik is very useful the paddle pointed down and roiling the the ball is great my follow through was a little
flatter like going across the net level this is much more effective following through up towards your shoulder great tip and i like this format see you soon!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks, good instructional video. I like to watch this type of video with the sound muted and run at .25 playback speed.
Glad it was helpful!
When do you go from a two handed backhand to a single handed backhand?
I usually use two hands on drives and one hand up at the NVZ…
IT WOOD BE NICE IF YOU SHOWED US WHAT A FOREHAND EASTERN GRIP LOOKS LIKE
th-cam.com/video/JQX1ZSCfzEk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SbJNzPfvaRibVTst
I love this content type. From beginning oh your warm up, speaking through each element of grip, back swing foot work, unit turn follow through grip type. Plus the. Opportunity to watch segments of each helps me to remember how you approached and completed the practice. Thanks a ton
Thanks Mary!
Had one other question. If there is a ball that comes a bit short of the baseline, do you get into the unit turn first and then move up to the ball or do you run up to the ball first and then get into the unit turn?
You have to run towards the ball first. That being said, you’ll slightly see players start to turn their body as they are approaching the ball
By far your best video yet! I say this because your videos always have great information, but I often have trouble recognizing the moves in the real time video. It was EXCELLENT seeing what you are describing in slow and stop motion!! Thanks, and keep up the good work.
Thanks!!
Once I can spin my paddle in between each shot I’ll know i’m at least better than 3.5!
😎
My serve return is consistently short.

When you are playing indoors on these beautiful Pickleball courts do you use indoor balls?
We only have multiple purpose basketball courts so for sure when indoors we use indoor balls. Can’t wait to get back outside-snow does not bounce!
If outdoor surface, use outdoor balls.
Posted this on some other videos, but it never got a response. Is there any difference in the foot position and swing path for down-the-line and cross court-like do you angle your body towards where you want the ball to go? Do you alter the wrist based on where you want to direct the ball? Or do you maintain the same wrist angle, foot position and swing path and it all depends on the timing of when you contact the ball?
Some players may differ, but I’m almost always in an open stance with my feet facing forward. Your swing path will always be directed towards your target, and the angle of your paddle will direct the ball.
I do like the format. The breakdown of the stroke mechanics was helpful. Motivated me to get outside and practice.
Glad it was helpful!
I enjoyed this video. In particular, your breakdown of mechanics and footwork. Great learning tool.
Thanks !

@@BrionesPickleball Thanks for getting back to me.
SUCH a useful video, thank you. Love the video + voiceover format. Especially appreciated the drill (figure 8), which I've done half court from the NVZ, but never tried from the baseline. Also the careful 2-handed backhand body mechanics explanation. Thanks.
Thanks Lisa!
Great video. I have to ask...is that paddle spinning you do after pretty much every shot an OCD thing? Wondering if you've ever been caught doing that in the kitchen and have a speed-up catch you before you re-gripped.
Never got caught before
My last comment was “stop banging bro” and you dropped this video. Confirmed you’re the GOAT 😂😂
Good question for you for 2.5-3.5 courts at PK. You mentioned this as your number one gripe about coaches but the “forehand always takes middle” is definitely something players abide by on those courts and a lot of points get dropped due to this.
Even if you’re pulled off court left and have to run back the right player still won’t swing because forehand takes middle.
Same if the ball is clearly angling towards their side and lands on their side/foot/FOREHEAD, NO - FOREHAND MIDDLE ONLY
It’s annoying but all I’ve found to do so far is just crowd the middle and expect them to never swing. I started getting some points from poaching as well but wanted your thoughts.
It would be great video you could make about “How to not get bit in the butt by the top 10 3.0 ‘unwritten rules’ of pickeball”
Thanks bro
Good idea for a video. We did a series like this a while back.

Yesssss thanks dude this is exactly what I needed! ❤
I have reviewed this video many times. our club hold instruction for various levels twice a month. they do a pretty good job but for me I do best with a mechanical breakdown like you provided in this video, freezing shots highlighting areas of body mechanics, along with your dialogue. more instruction like this would be well appreciated.
Thanks for sharing!
Really well done instruction. Great views and explanations.
Thanks Rich !
In singles play, I struggle with wide serves to my backhand on the ad or odd court. My opponents put side spin on them, keeping the ball low and pushing me wide off court. Any tips on ways to overcome?
Maybe adjust your positioning to cover the spin. That’s what I would try first
I’ve recently switched to a two hand backhand. My miss is hitting it in the net just below the tape. How can I hit it higher? Also, what grip are you using with your left hand?
I just lay my left hand right on top so it’s comfortable. As for hitting the net, it could be multiple things, but your paddle face is probably too closed during contact.
YES on this format. 👍 Great instructional video. For me its much nicer to listen to your voiceover while watching the technique, drill, etc. being done. (My legs, lungs and knees ached just watching the figure-8 drill. hah!)
Awesome, thank you!
I was taken by your footwork when moving side to side. Quick, yet you never take your eyes off the ball…therefore knowing where to place your next shot. Do you have a video on this skill? Thank you.
Great idea!
And could you also cover footwork at baseline vs at NVZ? Many thanks!
Why do you keep flipping your paddle in between shots and not just maintain the same grip? Just wondering
Old tennis habit, allows for me to stay relaxed and focused. I generally use the continental grip.
Great stuff Jordan! You continue to impress. Question for you. I believe you did a video about 3rd shot strategy and not rushing NVZ on poor drop shots - "wait & see." Can you provide the link as I want to share with my pickleball club. Thanks
th-cam.com/video/vtSY-38BdVg/w-d-xo.html
@@BrionesPickleball THANK YOU 😊
Great video. It talked to me. you covered what I was going to say in the second half. Stepping back with your leg first, then stepping forward. I step forward first. not as good on many levels, and I will see if I can change that. enjoying the process.
Good stuff!
One other random comment I am taking from other sports (especially golf), that swinging as hard as you can, and fast as you can, from setting the backswing... it's not as good or as consistent as accelerating through the swing... starting slower and completing hard through the contact point. I think it is about the kinetic chain. If you start hard with the swing, it ends up being about the arms... if you start with the hips and the arms slow and accelerating through the swing, the core does the work, and you have better power, accuracy, and control. Given that, you don't always have time in pickleball for perfection like in Golf
Yes! Still something I’m working on.
On your two-handed backhand drives, are you changing your grip or just using your 2nd hand to force the paddle into an "effective" backhand eastern grip?
Slightly changing grip to continental
I yearn for the day when the pickleball world understands the difference between drivers and bangers and stops confusing the two.
Yes!
Would like a tutorial on one handed backhand. My backhand in tennis was my strength. It’s a standard topspin one handed backhand. Can’t seem to get the power though with my paddle. My stroke production is good just not a lot of power. At times I will resort to a one handed slice backhand which really is my go to backhand. I would really like to get a power shot however with my standard backhand. Any advice?
I’ll have to make one!
Y
Jordan is that the control slk or power? Looks like you’re really having to smack it to get a deep drive.
It’s the control. You’re right, if you want more power, you can easily add lead tape or get the 13mm, which I may be switching to.
He's hitting top spin and that takes energy to get the ball to spin
👍👍👍
😎👍🏻
What do you think about that SLK paddle. I've been thinking about giving it a try.
I love it, I use it all the time!
Jordan when hitting the topspin drives do you try to hit the ball a little higher on the paddle face.? I use an elongated paddle and it seems I'm able to generate better topspin when I hit the ball at the high end of the sweet spot.
Yes, you do want to hit it at the highest end of the sweet spot, but be careful not to mis-hit the ball! 😎
Are you using an eastern forehand?
Yes
Thanks for this instruction. A couple of questions. 1) Do you use the exact same top spin technique when you are hitting the 3rd shot drive when opponents are at the net? It seems like the ball is kind of high when it is crossing the net in this drill and I would think that would give the opponent a better angle on their 4th shot. 2) I’ve tried the 2 hand back hand a bit but I never seem to get nearly as much power/control as I do with my forehand or one handed backhand. It feels like I am using quite a bit of my right hand and a lot of trunk rotation vs left hand. How should it feel when swinging the 2 hander. Thanks
You want to be hitting more with your left hand for the two hander. Also, in doubles, I would take some pace off, and drive the ball lower to the net.

Let’s talk glasses. I’m currently wearing my bifocals (the pair I wear for activities). I believe I’m losing the ball in transition, making bad returns. I’ve heard that I should have a pair of glasses just for Pickleball that are for distance only. What’s your opinion?
That might be a good idea.
Yes, get them. It makes a big difference. I've had these for years and wear them when I golf too.
I am in your shoes! I wear progressives!!!! I wore distance until another pballer asked me about my vision and said i should try progressives… huge difference!!! I don’t play without them. What you see really does change as the ball approaches your contact point.
Jordan, do you find that your forehand is more low-to-high than your two-handed backhand.... I feel like my two-handed backhand has to go more through-to-high... not sure why or if I am explaining this correctly. My two-handed backhand always starts totally horizontal (when I hit it best), but my forehand seems to like to start lower -- both end up in the same place (over the opposite shoulder). It may be due to starting wrist deflection now that I think of it.
I would say you may be right, obviously it’s marginal, but I think it’s just easier to have a more upwards swing path with a FH, with a 2 hander I tend to more drive through the ball.
Amazing videos with the level of detail you’d only expect to see in paid content. ❤
You put a lot of the other Pickeball channels to shame like Pickleball Pirates and Cliff Pickleball who record their audio with a Pringle’s can and use clickbait titles
Lol. Thanks
Dumb, dumb question... when you are drilling like this... are you trying to provide your training partner a ball right back to them... or trying to challenge them?
You can do either!
Good morning , I hope your doing well and thanks for all the good information. I just had a quick question if you don’t mind . I played some matches today and on 3 or 4 plays my partner hit their return very short and the opposing team just kept blasting me over and over . I was wondering if I should scoot back when my team mate hits a very short return or should I just keep training my reflexes. Very frustrating getting smashed from up close.
If it helps you get the ball back, definitely!
Agree with Jordan to get back some but make sure. You stop going back and split step right before they hit the ball.
