Put all those in jail who have made huge profits selling/installing cladding that can combust and kill. In many cases these people have recklessly endangered inhabitants' lives.
Why developers? Most of this stuff was specified at the design stage for planning approval by architects who I can guarantee were getting a good drink from the manufacturers. The developer is only going to build what is on the drawings unless it's D&B, even then the specifications would have to match? Good luck renewing your PI architects, you're gonna need it!
It would be very surprising if it were the architects fault because the developers aren’t shouting from the rooftops that it wasn’t their fault, it was the architects fault… I don’t know the details personally, but when nobody is pointing the finger it would suggest a degree of innocence
Its disgusting that this was allowed to happen. Really shows how downhill my country has gone in the wake of "buying a house will solve all your problems" culture. Housing and transport the two things that make the UK not a good place to live.
If you think about it. It should be the standards agency to foot this bill. They wrote the standards, test on the products were carried out according the standard. Passed according to the standards and then suppliers manufactured, then sold and installed as its a verified BS EN product. Home owner in no logical form is liable. Neither is the contractors. Its BSI or UK government.
Yet again, corporates' whose lies for profit and bonus (having seen the banking sector bailout) turn again to tax payers to bail them out. It's shameful.
I used sell Aluminium glazing products, there was stuff I could sell in the UK, I could not sell in France or Germany. So there products I had to take off safety aspects, as the UK not pay for the extra cost.
Given the current government's track record with dodgy PPE contracts and test and trace perhaps 'coming for a bribe from developers' may be a more apt title? Sorry not 'bribe' they prefer the term 'a large donation to "the party" for access to fat contracts with no oversight and a seat on the board of directors after Westminster.' The ERG led Tories have turned the UK into Zimbabwe with crumpets and worse weather.
The external cladding not the problem, the problem is there is a cavity that allows fire to spread behind the cladding. So no fire breaks. All units are under law have to be designed to stop fire from spreading from one unit to another.
Conservative government will not be coming for developers over this. It will eventually be owner of the property that gets left with costs. Developers will just hire an accountant to play musical chairs with tax liabilities. It would nice if professionals would do their job, however shouldn't this be tested in court if a professional falls below the standard usually they are liable, if my doctor uses the unapproved items in operation, he is held accountable. He usually carries insurance, so there is no problem here, these businesses carried insurance. Just ask crown prosecution services to take them to court, my preference would be they at least arrest people over this. Oh you have white collar and vote conservative? I doubt the developers have much to worry about from any Conservative government.
Is this Gove's dress rehearsal for his Tory leadership contendership? Empty words delivered with such bluster.
