-WILL FIX LATER-
The KGV represents a massive technological shift from the preceding Queen Elizabeth Class battleships. Owing it's design to a heavy emphasis on protection and safety, the ship boasts more armor than any battleship preceding her. This came at the cost of armament. Only having 10x14" guns to draw fire power from in an unusual configuration, she is the lightest gunned, non premium Battleship at T7 but that doesn't stop her from packing a punch with those guns! Overall accuracy is good, with good HE AND AP shell damage. Durability to HE fire is lacking, but durability to AP is good. AA is also good, as is concealment. Lots of pro's! What's not to like? :)
Bismarck s scuttling is questionable, she 'scuttled' the same time as she ate several torpedoes and lost her entire stern.
german pride demands she was scuttled, reality suggests that she was sinking even before the torpedo and scuttling and the torps just hastened her end
The best way is to go to the Bismarck and look if the torpedos did any damage.
@@23GreyFox they blew the fucking stern off, seems somewhat significant in terms of damage
@@xarglethegreat It was cut of while sinking. Clear cut on the points it was build.
@@23GreyFox it detached at the surface, scuttling doesnt do that but german ships of the period had weak stern construction so it separating along its seams under the shock of torpedo impacts seems likely.
@@xarglethegreat Look at pics of the wreck. The stern was cut of by the water pressure half way down. Even the torpedos (byside the rudder) did nearly no damage. The stern was not weaker than the stern of any battleship of that time. The Prince of Wales was hit in the same spot and nearly broke apart.
The quad turrets granted had teething issues to begin with but these were all eventually worked out and sorted out, the quad turrets became one of the most successful of the war. Bismarck was also not scuttled the command structure was basically gone with Lütjens and Lindemann dead there would ave been no CO to order scuttling of the ship, and with the ship being bombarded by shell fire all the crew would have tried to do would be escape not go into the bows of the ship to scuttle her, long story short she was sunk by RN gunnery and torps. Also fun fact the KGV in game having an AA suite not as good as Hood's is historically accurate, even after the KGV class entered service Hood had one of the best AA suites in the fleet.
Other interesting fact about the KGV design, they were very wet in a seaway, especially into a headwind as they had a low freeboard forward because of a staff requirement for point-blank dead-ahead fire from the A turret....
Good to know! RIP the wood deck though! =\
The 14inch guns were not because of the Washington naval treaty, that only limited guns to 16 inches, they were instead because of the london naval treaty
Thanks for the depth of your research and sharing it. Missed not hearing the number of lost sailors in your battle reports. Lest we forget
It actually has machinery spaces not being counted as citadel area,
Bc Brit BB has too high a skill floor
Interesting. Wouldn't surprise me. Still would be hard to find the citadel on this ship though due to the armor!
gotta say, i use this and when i see a colorado its like christmas, it perfroms so well against american ships its insane
no main naval guns ever achieved anywhere near their theoretical rate of fire in actual combat for example most battleships at jutland managed about 1 round per minute despite theoretically being capable of over 2 rounds per minute on most ships
do you know why they were so low rate of fire? battle fatigue? or the rate of malfuctions were high?
I've been struggling in the King George. I have been mostly finding myself on teams that crumble before I can support them, and then I'm stuck alone having to run away
quick tip use HE like other BBs use AP, the HE on this ship is god like. the AP is good at killing DDs and cruisers because it has a shorter fuse time than any other lines of BBs, so less over pens on low armoured targets the HE is best against BBs believe it or not. in this video he should have been using HE most of the time. nearly always get higher damage from HE on BBs unless there exactly broadside 8km away then ye use the AP.
Actually the first 14" gun British battleship was HMS Canada (albeit she wasn't in the navy at first but after WWI started she was and she was built by the Royal Navy in the first place so)
Technicality there! :P She was not designed for the Royal Navy but for the Chilean Navy! The KGV was the first 14" gun battleship designed specifically for the Royal Navy! :)
I've read about these ships since I was little; why couldn't the British have used triple turrets? One less gun, but you save weight and lose a lot of complexity. And yes, the 14-inch gun was great, firing a 1,590-pound shell to a range of 42,350 yards. It was probably the most powerful gun of it's caliber.

--WILL FIX LATER--
Well, I guess later will come eventually.
She's a fine ship, HE spamming is fun. AP is a let down unless I get in close, and I've never citadeled an enemy BB other than the non-German Tier 5s. So far I've played 32 battles with her, and struggling to met my stats up in average damage and EXP because she's performing so damn well on Warships Today. Durability wise she's a cross between IJN and USN, more IJN but surprisingly durable at times. Not very maneuverable but eh, not too bad either. I've noticed she isn't much of a game changer compared to some other Tier 7 BBs, in this regard shes must like Nelson. She lacks the AP power of Colorado and Nagato, she doesn't have turtleback, and she doesn't have Lyon's ridiculous 16-gun broadside. But still, she's the best for lighting them up. She does struggle when up-tiered.
I just don't click with Nagato or the Japanese battleships in general, except Kongo (and that was before changes to Matchmaking). The Japanese BBs feel like they are made of origami paper. I like to brawl, but the Germans have sub-par main guns and are a bit too 'pushy'. You can look up Zionas on the Warships Today website (NA server) and tell me how I'm doing overall. Keep in mind that WoWS is the first shooting game I've ever played. I like the historical aspect, which is why I'm playing. One thing I have trouble with (and I'm seeing it more often) is when enemy cruisers suddenly slow down or even reverse. Often throws off my aim.
I believe 28 knots was the designed speed and that she actually hit 29.3 knots in real life
This is a great looking Ship I can’t wait to get it hope it plays good.
we need in game king george V with 3x4 turrets! it would be so much better!
Good video. I think this ship was way better than it was IRL. This is where the line gets insanely strong HE potential. Tho I like Nelson better as the T7! Do you plan on doing a Nelson review too?
I would agree that she's a bit overpowered compared to her historical performance, but alas balans comes to play tovarish! :)
Nelson review will be coming, I promise!
Urpeackeeper, thanks for the vid on this ship. I am suffering through the QE and expending too many camo and flags to get to this ship. It looks well balanced and fun. But, I'll need a lot more fire fighting flags!!
Btw, if changing between ship lines messes with your hit % (jeez getting close to as bad as mine!) would the alt reticle with time to target at 30kts be of help. It does calculate your selected shell type. I don't believe in ANY mod except what comes with the game, as the alt reticle does.
Cheers, and again thank you.
Having never used the alternative reticle I don't know that it'd help me any to be honest. I generally aim by "feel" and it works pretty well LOL! :) The QE grind is real, so I know how that goes, but thankfully things get more comfortable with KGV! :)
Thank you sir. I just got past QE. Whew!
I'll buy the KGV in a few days on the RN sale. I will sell back the QE immediately unless you have a use for it for your subscribers. (I am serious, if you want me to send to you I will, in appreciation...) Somehow the ship was painful for me. I am not good with the Warspite, but I can enjoy her, the QE not so much...
I had a blast with the KGV on PTS a few weeks ago. Sacrilege perhaps, but to me it felt almost German. I am looking forward to learning how to fight the ship on the regular account. Might be a keeper, as it meets my baseline criteria of a "Real Ship".
Cheers!
“Is FUBAR German?” Is from Saving Private Ryan
FUBAR is not german, it stand for Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition
Lol, my bad was reading comments before getting to that part of the video
Be fair about KJ-5th & the Battle of the Denmark Strait.. she was still being finished when she sailed.. with workmen still aboard her!
KGV should have never left dock then! :P Either way, the quad turrets struggled to live up to the hype. There is a reason why so few nations employed quad turrets.... even the US was like "Yeah... no...." for a Quad 14" gunned version of the North Carolina's.... The French spaced their quad turrets out quite a bit more than the UK did.
KGV was not involved in the Battle of the Denmark Strait. It was her sister ship, The Prince of Wales (POW) along with the Hood
Why are they referred to as 'guns' of 'rifles' instead of cannons? Wouldn't they be same thing in this context?
In naval terms, cannon generally are smoothbores whereas rifles are not. It gets even more complicated when you talk about the 40mm Bofors or 20mm Oerlikon's which, when mounted on other modes of transportation are often times called cannons. In truth, for the Navy, the large caliber weaponry are generally referred to as "Naval Rifles" or "Naval Guns" unless they are smoothbores. That's being a bit... well... generic... as it's more complicated than that :P
I think Cannons are loaded from the Front
I could be wrong
I think I am wrong
I have no Idea
Nagato has 65,000 HP. KGV has more HP than Colorado.
Thanks! For some reason I was thinking Nagato had upper 50's for HP
Whiskey's Gaming Lounge probably because Nagato has 49000 for most of her time early on and those are the games most people remember and I rarely upgrade the hull on some ships to force the rush in bbs mentality out of my head
I haven't really paid attention to the commentary in battle tbh
not your fault
I just kept reading the chat x'D
the weebness was strong x'D
I approve x'D
do the upgrades work for the Duke of York?
+Revkor Absolutely! I'm having a hard time distinguishing the two ships to be honest
Didn’t Colorado get an HP buff recently?
USN Cruisers got a buff. That one salvo that landed on the Cleveland (That he shot for 8k?) should have citadelled it... at least before whatever update that came out that i'm fairly certain buffed USN Cruisers.
Yes, it did, but I don't think it breached the 60k mark did it?
Whiskey's Gaming Lounge It's something like 59.4k
is George better than the Duke ?
George gets more heal and RoF, Duke has better AA and armor but with 1 less heal and lower RoF , so yea
Is Nelson next?
In the How to Play series? No, that's Monarch, although I do have a Nelson battle around somewhere that I could put together a Premium Ship Review for her! :)
why does he sound like Kermit the frog?
My great grandfather was serving on the Prince of Wales when it was sunk lol
why'd you have to unironically insert a lol at the end? sounds like he and his comrades perished aboard the ship.
King George v sinking 1956 killing kaga in aircraft pacific war ww2
God it feels so awkward listening to a presumably jingoistic American scoffing at every available opportunity. If you're American, don't talk about the second world war. You tend to get a lot wrong, and piss people off in the process with that characteristic arrogance
O.K. Tom Meakin, since we're apparently here to presume, stereotype, and tell people what not to do, I suggest you don't talk about Americans...you tend to get a lot wrong, and piss people off in the process with that characteristic arrogance.
Wow what $5555555$555$
