Like others said...this is about Mark's mother. The amount of trust Mark had in letting Myles have lead vocals on this song says so much about their bond.
I asked Mark (by way of Patreon question on Charismatic Voice "Tea Time" interview recently) what his thinking was having Miles sing this song and he stated "Because Miles would do a better job with it". I think perhaps he was also concerned with breaking down occasionally if he sang it though he didn't say that. Fact though, he doesn't like his voice in rock and prefers to do "classics". His 2023 Christmas Album is Magical. We all think Mark has pretty good voice though :)
I mean whats even more amazing is that he had this trust in Myles even before they were really the duo they are now. Think about it, this was off of their FIRST album. They had only known each other and played together for less than a year. They didnt even really know the extent of Myles' guitar playing abilities at that point.
this song really means a lot to Mark Tremonti.... it's about his mother..if you watch other live with this song, he's always gets emotional playing this..
I discovered this song when my own mother passed. I even made a slideshow of photos of her using this song. Every time I hear it, I can't help but get emotional.
It's so odd. I listened to Alter Bridge but never heard this song. But after my mother passed this song popped up on my TH-cam. May your mother Rest in peace 🙏.
My mother passed a year and a half ago. I was her caretaker in the last 4-5 months for her. When it came time to clear her room, which took me over 30 days, I had a very hard time starting the project. I had her tv on in the room and this song came on. I lost it and cried my eyes out through it. I remember asking her to give me the strength. After the song was over I was able to take care of what I needed to do. My wife and I moved into the room. Later that night I had a very clear and vivid dream. In the dream I woke up and she was sitting on the edge of the bed. The room was full of luminescent light. All I could see was her. She looked healthy and had a full head of hair she lost from the cancer treatments. She told me she loved me and off she went. I then actually woke up. I felt an overwhelming peace and i knew she was alright.
I got to hear this live for the first time about a year ago. I always dedicated this to my grandpa who passed many years ago. Not too long after seeing AB and hearing this live for the first time, I lost my grandma. This is my favorite AB song. It has so much power to it.
This is such a beautiful tribute to Mark's mother. Myles lost his father when he was only four. His album "Year of the Tiger" is about that loss. You should check out the title track and the song "Love Can Only Heal." Amazing vocals.
I’m very glad you picked up this song, which is one of my favorites. If my memory serves me well, this song is dedicated to Mark’s mother. For what it’s worth, the studio version is superb and phenomenal as well you should definitely check it out.
Let's go! I was lucky enough to hear them live. This song was beautiful, I'm jealous that I wasn't at this one with the Orchestra, it must have been amazing. Once again loving your reactions!
One of my favorites from AB, and I love the orchestral elements in this live performance. Myles voice will forever give me chills, especially when he sings those higher notes. I loved loved your reaction to this... 🤩😍
I have to say I prefer the live in Amsterdam version better. Even to the point where Mark takes a step back from the spotlight. Guessing the emotions got to him.
Myles Kennedy is a hero vocalist for me! Its not just his killer range and control, its the amazingly beautiful timbre of his voice too! Easy in top 3 rock vocalists all time for me!
Been a huge AB fan since around '06, so thanks for covering this one. Mark is a fantastic writer and this is likely the best song he has ever written, which is saying something from the hundreds of songs he has written. For those unaware, Mark has a side band, Tremonti, since 2012, five albums deep with an incredible amount of great content as well. Highly recommend diving into these albums for those who like Mark's voice and a more metal, heavy rock sound. A few tips I normally use checking out a new band: 1. Read the lyrics as you are listening to a new song for the first few times for context or even before listening. 2. Listen to the album song, then a live version to check the overall talent level of said band live. 3. Don't, however, expect album perfection performed live. In this case, AB was doing a two day show here at Royal Albert Hall and Myles had to save his voice. Not to mention, they were 13 or so years into the band when they did this show. Myles has some wear and tear over the years, even though he takes very good care of himself by all accounts. If you listen to the album song it's much more vocal and higher register. These guys also write their own music. Far more talented than ever given credit and some of that reason is due to Creed. People here in the USA always go back to Creed because they were a huge, mainstream hit. Alter Bridge has more overall talent but they'll never will mean much here in the states. It also doesn't help that the guys keep reviving Creed, either. Lastly, do yourself another favor and check out Myles' first band, Mayfield Four. That's how Mark Tremonti found Myles for Alter Bridge. Myles didn't even have much vocal coaching then, but the raw talent is something. Mayfield Four wasn't known much but had some good stuff. "Summergirl" is a must-listen for his vocal range.
Thank you for reacting to this! ❤ I suggested it because this song is very special to me. Back in 2003 my little brother passed away just before my highschool exams. I managed to get through those but spent about a year and a half at home afterwards. During that time the first AB album was released, and this song immediately grabbed me. Mark wrote this about his mother who passed away, but it was a big help for me during that period as well They played it live during their concerts here in 2022 and 2023 and I simply couldn't hold it together, especially since my dad passed a few months prior to the 2022 concert as well. This song gets me every single time ❤ Hugs for everyone in the comments who need it!❤
I think the next Alter Bridge performance you should react to needs to be The End Is Here live at The Royal Albert Hall. It's a heavier song but Myles' voice is on FULL display there and I'm sure you will love it! And the orchestra sounds fantastic as well. I watch it once in a while just to hear and see Myles sing because it's pretty spectacular how he can flex his vocals. And you're right -- it looks effortless how he sings! Thanks in advance 😇
As others have pointed out this is about Marks mother, Mark wrote it. His solo stuff with his band Tremonti where he sings lead is amazing. I'd suggest checking out Take You With Me.
Myles uses a technique called voice masking for live, attain high notes without stressing your voice. I consider him my vocal guru and it's something that has helped me a lot to achieve high notes.
In fact, this is one of their songs that I seldom listen to. It's beautifully written and performed but, it also takes me back to the loss of my own mother. Obviously, that says something about its impact.
This makes me think of my mother, too. She passed at the age of 26 when I just 3 weeks shy of my 8th birthday some 36 years ago. Makes me cry every. Single. Time. On another note, I think Myles Kennedy is the best rock vocalist of this generation, hands down... and I will die on that hill.
Saw these guys at Rise Above in Bangor, ME in 2016. Only bands that came close were Volbeat and Disturbed. Tremonti also has his own band, more traditional metal, but they’re fantastic.
For some reason reactors don't go deep into Alter Bridge. Some hit a few songs. Some just do the recent live stuff. I'd suggest going back and reacting to most of their first two albums, as they're amazing.
This is from their first album! And fairly early live. I love each and every AlterBridge album! Especially the 2nd through 5th ones! They just can’t write a bad song💪
Yeah it’s so hard to listen to this song just knowing where he’s coming from losing my mom it makes me think of the memories of my mom so I love this song but I don’t at the same time! I know that’s probably confusing but yeah!
I don't know why I love Alter Bridge, I should hate Myles Kennedy, a beautiful man, who sings like few can, and is a good guitar player .... Mike Tremonti is a workhorse at the guitar ... my envy is taking over 🤣
I would love for you to react to ghost of me by make them suffer, I just recently found out about them this week and this song is such a beautiful song I think you would really enjoy it 🫶🏻
You absolutely need to get to Blackbird (song about Myles friend who passed away and just a story about death in general.) It’s an absolute masterpiece of a song. Blackbird Life Must Go On Open Your Eyes (Live with Parallax Ochestra) Fortress (Live with Parallax orchestra)
@@damoncrossan3827 she did that one a few months ago but I agree with u 100%. When I first heard that I shit my pants. I just couldn’t believe the range, the power, the control. Absolutely insane. Myles is 1 of a kind.

Yes, that other love is so beautiful and perfrct❤
@@armaang96 when they play this song live in Amsterdam you'll see how he hold back his emotion ..
Myles' live acoustic version of "Love Can Only Heal" is truly TOP SHELF stuff!!! The crowd is so in sync with him!
I quoted this at my moms wake. Love you, Mom. Miss you always

The thing I fear most in life is the day I lose my mother. I hope you're doing well, man! Stay strong
Alter Bridge and PRS guitars To the FRONT !!

I went to school with Myles Kennedy in Spokane Washington. He is a great guy and gave my best friend guitar lessons. 🎸
He looks like he would

I had this played at my mom's funeral and have the lyrics tattooed on my arm as a tribute piece to her . Loved your reaction
You have to listen to Blackbird from Alter Bridge !

Yes, definitely. Please checkout ‚Love can only heal‘
great reaction..watch their performance words are darker than thier wings..vocal range of myles is out of this world
Such a beautiful song. Every time I hear it I get in the feels. ❤
this alter bridge playlist was what made me sub, ive been a HUGE fan of these guys since the early 2000s because my old man!
Just perfect timing. One of my favourite AB songs and my grandpa died yesterday. This hitted like a truck, but in a good way i think

My favorite deep cut from AB: "Shed my Skin"
Incredible song. Shakes you to the core.
I saw Myles open up for Fuel in Seattle with his band The Mayfield Four. Amazing band! They put out two albums that’s are soooooo good!

This song has it own soul
Yes the one in Amsterdam performance
You should give the liveversion from Amsterdam a listen.
you HAVE TO react to blackbird from this same show, absolute perfection and one of the best songs of all time in any genre in my opinion
“Just not as belty as…”
Myles, immediately: “hold my beer”
If you haven't yet, you gotta see him sing Elton John's "Leon"
Please do Myles’ acoustic performance of ‘watch over you’ for Bilboard. I think you’ll love it!
The best version of this song is the Live at Amsterdam one
blackbird was the one for me
Yeah it’s so hard to listen to this song just knowing where he’s coming from losing my mom it makes me think of the memories of my mom so I love this song but I don’t at the same time! I know that’s probably confusing but yeah!
You should do a reaction to I Appear Missing by Queens of the Stone Age live in Paris from 2013. Unreal performance
I don't know why I love Alter Bridge, I should hate Myles Kennedy, a beautiful man, who sings like few can, and is a good guitar player .... Mike Tremonti is a workhorse at the guitar ... my envy is taking over 🤣
The john wick of vocals!
Review the older live version of this (In loving memory) by Alterbridge if you want to witness greatness more from Myles's voice. Thank me later!
You should check out some of mark tremoni on his solo stuff.
Tremonti
Dust is a great song
Tremonti aoso sings Frank Sinatra
I would love for you to react to ghost of me by make them suffer, I just recently found out about them this week and this song is such a beautiful song I think you would really enjoy it 🫶🏻

If you wanna cool song - listen to Null Positiv "wo rauch ist ist auch feuer". This is masterpiece.
Which Aerosmith song? Rag doll? Love in an elevator would be good. Cyin' would be another.
You should react to Myles singing ACDC
Tune a song synthestines. Can you launch down hair without you Thomas Rhett? A happy man
inertia vs helium beatbox reaction please
Can we see The stage by Avenged sevenfold?
i think its time for Blackbird live from Wembley😊
No. It should be Amsterdam
When Myles tours with with Slash they do play Aerosmith.
Your pants must be on fire.
This version isn't nearly as good as the one they did at a radio station.
