That was awesome! I have found that being a beginner flying at night with leds on the frame made it SO much easier to fly a quadcopter and keep your orientation.
since there LED's you won't "blow the whole line" of them if you wire them reverse polarity, they just won't work. however if you wire half of them correctly then make the mistake 1/2 way along then the ones up to your mistake (wiring +V to 0V) will illuminate
I was installing some of the single color LEDs in the wing of my FT Racer. With everything soldered up and installed, I used a charger adapter with multiple outputs to connect the battery to the LED string. It looked beautiful with the lights turned out! Then a bright flash and the insulation of one of the battery wires burst into flame and glowed orange. It melted the solder and the connector fell off, breaking the circuit before the battery could catch on fire. A connector on the charger adapter had accidentally touched another connector and shorted the battery. The LEDs are beautiful, but always remember to be careful with LiPOs, a short circuit can be very bad.
You can't run electro luminescent wire ( El) off an rx. While the things you buy to run them do have two aa batteries, they convert it up to a higher ac voltage.

quick question.. im building a sonic model ar wing and its black epp foam molded... will the black totally kill any potential illumination from pointing the leds inward? i was thinking about doing a tail strip but also some wing leds as well should i glue them facing the ground or inward? do u think the thick black foam will even shine any light i dont see how it can work with this type of foam... just wanted to check in with the pros of course if you can help i would appreciate any knowledge you can share in regards to lighting up my ar wing.. thanks in advance. -peter
hey, u guys actually have to fold the wings of those things. there are those white line u can follow on the wings of those things. just saying :) great video!!!
I think other things that might work is using fluorescent dye, pens, decals and paints and using high powered UV LEDS illuminating the marked surfaces up. Would be cheaper than using LED strip, few high power UV LEDS on the tail lighting up the tops of the wings and a few on the bottom of the fuselage lighting up the bottom of the wings and one near the centers of each wing pointing towards the fuselage.
Wow thank you for your sharing ... I have a question, What is the danger effect from the LED for the battery ? I mean does I need to switch on the LED while flying just less time ?
4thGloryMonday, do a search for "step up to 12V". I have a couple to step from 1S or 2S up to 12V to power my LEDs. They work great as long as you stay in the amp rating. All the best and Happy flying!
If you short the contacts at the end of a segment NOTHING happens... there are still resistors at the strip (at least when you have good ones). The only thing that happens is that the LEDs BEHIND these shorted contacts do not light up.
Where do you guys fly? I recently joined the hobby and I'd enjoy watching you guys fly some of these awesome projects some time. I live in Kent and I've heard McKinley Park and Aerotech mentioned several times in different videos so I'm guessing the Canton area?
I have the single solid colors front and back on my 3cell quad, I simply did a 6-way split at the battery connector instead of a 4. I like it better for orientation than having colored props.
I don´t know the laws in the USA, but here in Germany ( and the european union ) nightflying is vorbitten. -->so sad ! Remember: 3-color LEDs consume the current for each color switched on ! So white from a 3 rgb LED consumes 3 times the current of a single white LED. The overall current of a full illuminated model is often underratet ( ? ).
More or less. Now, anyone who flies models enough is going to be able to tell the between some sneaky nightflyer and something odd. The uninitiated, though, can get duped pretty easy.
engineeredlifeform One time I wasn't flying my UFO, but was actually flying my very fast, flat foam F-22 with FAA nav lights (LED) at twilight. A guy pulled up (sounding drunk) and told me I needed to stop that blankedy blank.. Ha ha! He went on to say he thought he saw a blankedy blank UFO. My eyes were on my plane but I got a chuckle from it. Before I was able to land he had already taken off. I just hope he didn't hurt anyone on the road.
My neighbor is a police officer and he thought my UFO was a blast. There are some UFO reporting sites that have descriptions of UFOs that match dates I was flying and appearance. Most people just want to see it.
RonALampman yeah, you'd be suprised how many people report UFOs with models. (Which is odd, usually, if you listen hard enough, you can hear them, unless the lights are REALLY far away, and equally bright) I used to mess with the neighbors with my glider now and again.
How about a foam , PT 109 ,I say BOY / PAY, Attention. SON ! ! ! / Boat that is.Would be better than the same old,again+.Just a thought,EH,? ? ? Gots to go,thanks for,your help,omg
i had to laugh at the LED HELis things they were dropping. here in AZ there is some guy who thought he could make money off these buy selling 3 of them for 14.99 i picked up 50 of these for less than 17.00. i hope no one bought into that guy.. no clue why he thought it would be a good idea to pay for a expensive commercial on tv. shrugs. leds are getting cheap. i bought 16 feet of solid colors for 7.99 a piece.. i bought 4 colors, figure that will last me for a while. .. chris,.
I can't believe you guys constantly talking about the Kraken but not releasing plans or a build video. We need that Kraken!
Product links would be great!
I fly more at night than during the day I think. Night combat is loads of fun! Thumbs up guys! Can't wait to come fly at FliteFest!!!!!
You guys make so good videos right now! keep em coming!
I have some of those falling light things too!!
That was awesome! I have found that being a beginner flying at night with leds on the frame made it SO much easier to fly a quadcopter and keep your orientation.
Cool! Thanks for the tips! Can you guys please review the Parkzone P-51D Mustang BL?

Release the kraken plans!!!! Looks really cool tho!
Product links please!
Nice vid you guys!! Love night flying!!! Especially when the people come out from all over wondering if it's a UFO in the sky, LOL!
How did you hook it up to the transmitter to allow it to turn on and off and the functions associated with it?
Yay! Thank you for listening, I appreciate it!
Good talk Josh.
You guys do such a great job. Thanks!
Does this also work with flitetests new brown foam?
Where do you get the foam sheets to build the craft?

Hi you guys did a review on the delta ray from Johnstone and I'm thinking of getting one for my first Rc plane would you recommend it
Brilliant! Looks like an SF movie, but this one is real. I love it. Keep good work, guys!
Which plane was that in the vid with the bomb drop? Are there any build plans for it?
Amazing Video
I like your videos so much, but what will happen with david?
THis is the epitome of what this hobby is about!! Fun friendship and getting others into our fun world!!
What has happened to the with the J Scott Plane?
Have to try watch this at 2x the speed. So funny. Half the speed also sounds like they a bit slow in the heads :)
Would an FT plane still light up if it is minwaxed or painted?
+Davis Walmsley Minwaxed, yes. Painted, depends on how thick the paint is.
I want to know where to get those light up whirlygigs aside from going to a fair
Geoffrey Stankus I'm going to take a wild guess here.. On the internet?
Dee Jay if you find the website let me know
Geoffrey Stankus A place called "slingcopterdotcom" seems to be a major seller of them. They are not as cheap as I had hoped.

I have a lazer 3 from lazertoyz, it does not have hollow wings, what is the proper way to put lights on it?
Arjun Fulp with tape or glue
cool man.

Do a video on the whirly gigs!!!! PLEASE! I've searched and I haven't found anything on where to buy or how to make them
So they need to go in the wing and not on it?
Gonna miss Dave
Me 2... 😥😭
Wow thank you for your sharing ...
I have a question, What is the danger effect from the LED for the battery ? I mean does I need to switch on the LED while flying just less time ?
Very cool guys. I really look forward to enjoying your videos each week. I even save them to enjoy a few in a row sometimes :) Cheers!
i know you probably realized this but i like how it is the kraken which is a squid and squids light up to comunicate ITS EDUACATIONAL!!!!!
ok , that be cool ~ thanks for the demo
You should build an rc bird with ailerons and a folding prop.
How would i do this to a super cub lp?
They should do this again, but this time take some long exposure photographs
Will David start making videos on his channel since he is gone?
On amazon they are way cheaper like $7:99 for 16'
is it ok for led strip to work in small closed space without any airflow?
Why can't I use led with a 2s?
thanks lars

well somebody is going to be calling about a UFO sighting

I can't find your cargo bay setup any where that you used on this. Can you help?
2s does not give enough voltage to light an LED. 4s is too much voltage. 3s is close to 12v, which is what they need.
I think it would be neat to see a tri-wing plane in the swappable series. Can you guys make that happen?
what is the intro music called.

you need to rename this plane "disco plane"!
I suppose the song you don't want associated with it is "Burn baby Burn.. Disco Inferno!"
Flight test!! Great video, plan a UFO scare!!!
So basically you are saying that the X Files is all just some hoax then... :(
More or less. Now, anyone who flies models enough is going to be able to tell the between some sneaky nightflyer and something odd. The uninitiated, though, can get duped pretty easy.
DFX2KX The uninitiated already report Venus as a UFO,.. RC aircraft all lit up and pulling off flat spins is going to make their heads explode.

400% Kraken!
You mean full scale kraken
will you ever be selling balsa wood rc planes?
How many people called the police and said there was a UFO in the sky ? :D
