Jacowitz on April 8, 2016 in Castro Valley during the day shift during the department's distracted driver enforcement period. It is a peek into what the CHP do patrolling Castro Valley and the surrounding areas in Unincorporated Alameda County.

I enjoy these CHP videos, however I would like to see more footage from the freeways. Maybe a traffic break, catching speeders, stopping vehicles in/out of lines, clearing an accident scene etc...

Driving on the 58 west towards Bakersfield the other day and a white crown Vic passed me, stopped a dodge rt made my heat feel warm seeing them still use those old cop cars

My friend responded to a motor vehicle rollover. She was a paramedic. They got on scene. The driver was unconscious. They and fire looked around and didn’t see any evidence of more than the driver involved. 15 mins later the heard a woman scream. Everyone stopped and looked up at what she was looking at. A baby in a car seat was hung up in a tree. The baby was dead. It was ejected out of the car due to improperly installed car seat. It was the last shift me friend ever worked. It devastated her to see it.

I damn near hit a CHP officer once while he was using his phone while driving. He was out of the freedom Ca office traveling on ca highway 1 in Santa Cruz , just coming out of the
" fish hook" where hwy 1 and hwy 17 intersect. His lane merges into mine but he wasn't paying any attention to me or my truck! You should have seen his eyes get as big as boulders when he realized just how close he came to meeting god right then and there! Scared him so bad he dropped his phone on the floor of his patrol car while skidding and swerving! I thought for sure he was going to blame me for it but he didn't. Heck he didn't even stop but just kept going . Wish to god I would have had a dash cam back then!
Adolf Hitler yes that's true however most accidents involving cars and trucks are caused by the car driver and the truck driver is the one who is scrutinized and the car driver is usually viewed as the victim. I was involved in a fatal head on crash in 2001 because the car driver was distracted driving. The ONLY reason I didn't get the blame was because there were plenty of witnesses who saw the guy cross over the lines and hit me. It was on a bridge with nowhere to go. Still bothers me sometimes. All because some idiot playing with himself (distracted driving)!!!!! Rest In Peace Shawn mundell of holister ca.

Ok, if I am stopped at a light, and know the stupid light just turned red (and I didn't try to "make it" through the yellow, and checked to see what call I missed while moving, I could be ticketed? Good to know, I thought it was about safety not revenue generation.

I am sick and tired of waiting through multiple light cycles because of people on their damn phone! I don't know if I would call it distracted driving? What it does is make me go around them and run the red light!
So here is a good question, I see cops all the time texting/talking while driving and they never get into trouble for it, so why do citizens get into trouble and get extorted out of their hard earned money
And to mention their laptop they use while driving which is computing while driving. So if I install a laptop in my car can I read the screen and not be pulled over?
It's because they are considered "trained professional drivers" who went through training school, it's just BS that they get away with, more laws that they don't have to obey like us regular folk; FTP!

Its funny how most people have excuses while they were either talking or sending text messages. I don't think any officer cares what line you use, he/she will probably give you a ticket.
Why is it called "driving" if the vehicle isn't in motion, at a red light, and technically isn't in operation. It's just "on"? Why is it a problem? I always thought it was good practice to wait till you were stopped to look at your phone. It's an intersection, not stop and go traffic, that would be different. I'm all for zero distracted driving, it's awful what happens because of it, but still.

Texting and driving should be treated like a DUI. I have been hit at a red light by a woman who rear ended me while she was texting. What's the rush? Get bluetooth or pull over to text.

CHP officers enforce laws on the freeway, they handle pursuits, arrest DUI drivers, and even assist sheriff’s deputies and police officers in arrests. They don’t just write tickets every day, they do more stuff
