- The finish line is getting close on the 2000 Chevy Corvette convertible that sat in a barn, got ate up by rats, then sat outside for years at a shop. Ratvette was only $5,000 and it's been a long road bringing it back to life. I thought it was about to become my daily driver, all the parts were on the way, then it all ground to a halt. Most of these parts were ordered over 2 months ago and haven't shown up yet. I'm not even sure I'll be able to get everything I need to save the C5 without cutting up a salvaged car. Today we discover plenty of new problems and keep working on existing issues.

Just read this in a old corvette forum. You may try this and see if it helps "2. Grounding issues with the RFA
The very first thing is charge the battery. Make sure it is FULLY CHARGED! The C5s are notoriously sensitive to weak battery voltage and can throw out a host of “odd” problems because of it.
Next , check chassis G-104/108 in the battery compartment. Follow the small negative battery cable down to the chassis ground stud. G-104/108. That is the PCM and RFA ground. Remove the ground eyelet from the stud and clean it with a wire brush."

I used to work part time in an upholstery shop for a friend that owned it ... Trust me.. talk around your area and have a pro do it ...they can be tricky ...not bubba with the Camaro up on blocks in his 12" tall grass

I ordered interior panels on 2/13 and they still haven't been shipped. Another site I paid for a dash pad and got no emails or confirmation or receipt. 3 months later I filed with the credit card company and got my money back.
I thought you were gonna do something with the clearcoat.

In today's crazy world, seemingly everyday items aren't available, let alone parts for an old car, hard to believe a C5 is old.
My wife orders a lot online and, when possible, specifies anyone but the USPS to make deliveries. I hope your convertible top isn't shipped by the USPS.
This car is one heck of a project and it'll be great to see it finished and completed!

Ive had that exact same battery tender for many years now, works perfect! One battery its keeping topped off is over 9 years old.

TPMS sensors were a stupid idea in the first place. If you can't tell by driving that a tire is low on pressure or you neglect a "preflight" inspection to see them, maybe you should just ride a skateboard! I have found that Battery Tender chargers fail at an incredible rate. Like 68% don't do anything at all. Buy an old fashioned roll around charger if you need results. A 28 volt version is best, a short blast on the 28v setting can knock the sulfates off of the plates in 12 volt battery, very likely to save ones like in the old Camaro.

Looks like you're following the same road I did. A LOT of parts for the 97-00 C5 are unobtainium. As for the top, I just had the exact same issue with a vinyl top for an 84 Buick I am working on. Took them three months to get it to me, AND sent me the wrong one.

Seriously keeping track of these videos on the C5, because once my C4 gets done, I’m looking to sell it, so that I can buy a C5. Your videos are extremely helpful and what to look for, and some of the dues and downs of buying a C5. Just got new wheels for the C4, and they are C-5 wheels. Should have them mounted on the car by middle of next week. Parts are so hard to come by right now, then it’s not even funny. Everybody is short on everything.

Have you thought about using parts from a pull your own part yard? Not sure how many Corvettes end up there, but might be worth a try.

Yeah man, parts are extremely hard to find. I am having my engine rebuilt and I had to order some parts from Germany, could not find them in the U.S. A lot of the manufacturing plants closed down when covid hit and have not opened back up. The supply of parts is very, very low at the present time. 🤔
Even before Covid most companies operate their supply stock with "just in time inventories". They try to keep inventory down to a minimum due to property taxes on that inventory.

In -- some, not sure if there are exceptions -- older vehicles with mechanical speedometers, cruise control requires the speedometer to be working properly.
Backup light socket, Napa ECH LS6507, takes a 2057 bulb, there’s 73 of them in the system, might give them a shout
The old girl is looking good. I am surprised at the reverse lamps needing dual filament 1157 bulbs. They are normally a single filament 1156. Any car I have owned that took either bulb used the standard socket. They were not manufacturer specific. I got sockets for both kinds off the shelf in Canadian Tire for under $10 each. Parts for my 30 year old Volvo are easier to get.

Try hitting the dead batteries with a full power charger for an hour or so, then switch to the slow charger. Doesn't always work, but I've brought back several batteries that wouldn't accept a trickle charge that way.
If it's just the dash speedo that is bad but the computer is reading it fine, you can get a Heads Up Display that plugs into the OBD port (around $40 online.) Then your speed is showing on the bottom of your windshield

If you have driven a lot you learn to feel the speed of the vehicle, I have an old mazda protégé 5sp that had no speedo. I learned to calculate the speed based upon gear and tach.
Have you corrected the "Column Lock" and Turn/Off the key - Wait 10 Sec" issue?? It's a LMC5 module - from LMC5 - notorious issue on C'5s - Best!!!
I know that parts feeling. Ordered some Mopar stuff back in April that just came in this week.
And parts for a 2012 Ram truck? Discontinued. Can't get them anywhere new.

My 2001 C5 has been my only car for the past 20+ years - looks and runs like new. It is a crime that I can no longer get hardly any parts for it now! Would have better luck finding a part for a 1953 Corvette.

My 90 model Camaro had a dummy vent box on the front passenger side just like your Corvette I put a pipe in the middle and connected them looks like yours already got a pipe that connects the two

With a car with this type of damage pulled the interior and checked all of the wiring would have been the best thing to do.
Damage from mice Is far worse than flood.
You cant use that style tpms sensor in that year corvette. You need to get the gm units and cycle thru the tire training with a magnet. I work at a tire store, just went thru this a few weeks ago on a customers car.

I just had to repair two pex water lines under my house crawl space, they were chewed through by rats. Never had that happen before, those things are a disaster waiting to happen.

In my (questionable) experience, the RF receiver sucks more juice than anything else when the car is off. (One notable exception being the infotainment / RDO circuit on my wife's Escalade.) Having that disconnected or missing likely contributed to the battery lasting so long. Cars really need a "I'm not gonna drive this thing for a few months" switch. (Because I'm too lazy to disconnect the battery.)

I went back in the video and saw the model. It's an Autel MaxiTPMS TS508 and is $279 on Amazon now that I've looked there.
