That ring light is brilliant! (no pun intended!) I have to wonder why no one else has done this yet!? If it weren't a Makita, I'd be ordering one right now (I'm too invested in Milwaukee at this point)!

Skil has had a ring lights on their impact driver and impact wrench for almost 2 years. Being a DIYer brand, Skil isn't on the same level as the power and performance as Makita's, but they're hardly the first to do so.

@@Rycel2001 Yea, Skil isn't something I would buy for any serious use. Having one around the house for grandma to hang her photos with is fine, but anything else and you'll need a real tool. lol

Thank you for the comments, I had tried out Milwaukee in the early days too, but that was when the 18V line was still pretty bulky and the batteries were absolutely dreadful. Also glad to hear some other manufacturers are doing the ring lights now too.

Hi I’m Uk based but I’ve seen other us reviews talking about the collet size being longer for Japanese bits. Have you found this to be the case with yours and have you had any issues with it? Thanks

    • @HowtowithTroy

I have not noticed any difference in the collet depth at all, it fits all of my regular bits. In comparison my older impact has a bit of slop in the depth for the bits but that might be due to a bearing not locking fully any more. (Older impact is US made).

I notice a bit more of forward wiggle in Japanese Makita 1/4" chucks. Note that I mean that not for this model specifically but in general. Even on new Japanese tools with their bit that comes in the packaging it wiggles much more than the same chuck on an european model. It is how it is. Supposedly there is Makita bit piece part that fills the gap and that might make a difference but the thing just falls off all the time from what I have seen on youtube.

where is a link to get one

I bought mine off eBay at the time. I see some vendors carrying it in NA now. If you type in “Makita TD173D for sale” you should be able to find one somewhere. I know eBay’s Japanese sellers have all the different colours you can get them in that you can’t find elsewhere typically.

I don't know the exact number but the tool is lighter than xdt16 (US) TD-171 (Japan)

Says that it is 1.5kg or 3.3lbs (Without Battery Pack.) The angled grip also makes control a lot more comfortable too in my opinion.

@@OlegLitovchenko-t1d nah! DeWalt sucks! I just got the new DeWalt dcf860 I bought it in Ali Express that new impact driver is not available here in the US yet. But I got one, I paired the new DeWalt dcf860 with 5Ah power stack and it beats the Milwaukee gen 4 with the forge battery, it beats Bosch and Hikoki and the 40V Makita. But it got destroyed by Flex with 10Ah stack lithium.
