    WTF IS GOING ON. The Josh Smith Evertune Baritone is WAYY cheaper in EU/UK. Check the Reverb listings, even after shipping, it's like a thousand dollars less to import them: bit.ly/3BcGeZO.

      Its a shame the pricing on the JS because its a really beautiful guitar. I've specced a similar Kiesel in that Tropical blue on their builder so many times. But yeah, it's overpriced. You can get a 26.5'' scale MH1007ET for like half the price, made in the same factory in SK as this one, or for $300 more than this a MIJ E-II M-II Evertune with Fishmans and a hardshell case. Sad to say I'd take either of those over this one hands down. I love them (at least old Jackson), but they just can't help but shoot themselves in the foot one way or the other.

      Ok I'm an all-in Floyd Rose user and have used the OFR, Schaller, GOTOH 1996T, 1000/1500 , Special and different licensed models for decades not even years. The catch with the 1000/1500 is: they just don't last. They work just great when they are new and can really impress even an experienced player; but they only live as much, a year and a half on my case, and then you need to do smth about it. Repair it, change it, drop and swap it. No I don't confuse the 1000/1500 with the Special , those are hands down worse . And the crappy part is, you can't upgrade the vital parts to the OFR/ Schaller/GOTOH quality range, they are designed so it is just not possible (believe me I asked Floyd Rose in the past).

    "Made in USA" comes with legal baggage - a minimum %'age of components also have to be made in USA. It's the reason Fender dropped "made in USA" and now just says "Corona, California". For a time California had an even higher %, but later dropped in line with other States. So don't be surprised if Jackson, made in the same Fender Corona factory, have the same caution about that labelling too.

    • @prozaccowboy
      @prozaccowboy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fender has been cutting bodies and necks in Mexico and bringing them back up to America for a long time. They also were spraying a lot of finishes down there that were not so California friendly.

      @@PaulCooksStuff I remember that podcast Phil spoke about the USA stuff as well. If I remember he said guitars made in the USA aren’t required to say “Made in USA” and like you said if they do say it, a LARGE % needs to be USA parts also. Hence Fender, Ernie Ball, just say the location. Essentially most of the “USA” stuff is assembled in the USA with various imported parts. It doesn’t bother me. I have a Jim Root Tele (MIM) and Jim Root Strat (Corona) and I love them both but the Tele has a slight edge for me.

    Just a tip for any Les Paul users out there that have tuning issues. Have an original nylon nut installed on it like they used on the original 50's Les Pauls. The material is called nylon 6/6 and is SUPER slick. I have these nuts installed on all my Les Pauls and they never go out of tune. The material won't wear either therefore is very difficult to work with. You'll have to find a good luthier who has experience working with the stuff.

    My thoughts on current releases:
    1. Rob Cavestany - long overdue. This guy has been so incredibly loyal to the company that I’m surprised it took this long. My issue is that Floyd special.
    2. Josh Smith - That guitar is HOT. Now, 7-string baritone w/ Evertune isn’t my thing (I’m old school metalcore, not so much modern so go ahead and call me a boomer). I think in today’s metal scene this is something much needed by Jackson to “get with the times”. My one gripe is I want to see Jackson showcase THEIR models more with modern updates, not the super-strats that every company has. But I understand the demand for that shape so I don’t fault them for pushing it. I have to check out Northlane, but while the shape is not my cup of tea, his guitar does look absolutely sick. I’m in love with that color.
    3. Phil Sgrosso - The silverburst in the My Own Grave video I believe is his custom shop model that he got back in 2013, so 9 years ago (at least I think that’s the one), so I’m hesitant to say that was a prototype in the video (now 4 years old, so 5 year gap between the CS and video). But it very well could have been the inspiration for one. He’s very much a strat guy, I think partially due to being a major Iron Maiden fan, so it makes sense he’d have a super modernized strat. Again, pointy Jackson guitar fan here. But I’m massively interested in getting this. AILD had been my favorite band for so many years. I love silverburst guitars, love Floyd roses, and prefer a single humbucker. And I think it would pair nicely with my PRS. Fun fact, the only PRS I own was once owned by Phil. It was his first PRS he got when he became an endorsee, prior to Charvel. He toured the world with it and it’s in the Parallels music video. I donated to his fundraiser that he was having for relief efforts on the Japan tsunami in 2011, and got that guitar as a gift from him. So yea, major AILD and Phil Sgrosso fan here.

    • @ilovesguitarmucho
      @ilovesguitarmucho 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Also to add, Phil had an affinity with Silverburst guitars as well. When he was with Washburn he had a silverburst V and whatever their single cut model is. And also had a silverburst PRS Torero. Custom shop Charvel So Cal too, so the signature model being the same finish makes sense.

  • @interwebuser
    @interwebuser 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    My guys, if it upsets you that Jackson is asking a premium for a 2.2k made in USA guitar then don't look at PRS, cause they're doing the exact same thing to the Dustie Waring CE24 Floyd, to make it worse it's a 1000 series, not even the 1500, on a 2.6k guitar.

    Just to clarify, the FR 1000 you are showing at 4:40 is their low profile model (kinda like the Ibanez LoPro Edge trem), not the overseas made FR 1000/1500 series. The 1000 FR or sometimes known as the Floyd Rose Pro is also made in Germany and it's considered a very top of the line bridge, that's why it is priced much higher than an original FR.

      Like I said: any cast part has a small chance of a flaw in the metal structure.
      Anyways...
      The steel alloys used are supposed to be the same (Schaller states C45 for the Lockmeister but there's no grade stated for either the Floyd OG), as is the heat treatment/hardening of the baseplate.
      In theory, there should be no difference between the Schaller Floyd and the Korean 1000 with the exception of the arm fitment design.
      If this is true then the only way the 1000 series would be inferior (tuning stability) is looser machining tolerances and tooling being used for longer before replacement by the factory (cost cutting as hard steel eats tooling), say there's the potential for more slack between the post and the body insert, leading to more "bad ones" out there, giving the 1000 series a bad name.
      Perhaps it's just brand snobbery and people are convinced German is better than South Korean.
      Dunno, I haven't had a guitar with a 1000 series and I prefer the Gotoh GE1996T anyway.

Also Idk if anyone else notices these things but on my usa custom shop guitars like my usa dimebag dean guitars the nickel frets wear faster (also on usa guitars like gibsons) than the nickel frets on my Korean made schecters or esp guitars they both claim to be nickel but the supposed better harder nickel that I belive is jescar on most usa guitars wear extremely fast compared to any Korean guitars I've owned, my old hellraiser I played the ever living shit out of and never had the little valleys carved out of the frets from years of playing and heavy vibrato compared to the same abuse Over less than a year on my usa dean dime slime u can already see quite a bit of wear I wonder if anyone else has thought or noticed this. All in all tho I feel like Josh smith's guitar having non stainless steel like he said it would have on his promo of it is a slight bummer but from my experience the higher end imports that have nickel frets are very good and strong and resist wear much better than their usa nickel fitted counterparts.

    Hey small correction, the MJ Series Soloist and Dinky have a Gotoh 1996t bridge but still uses a Floyd Rose R3 locking nut. Great videos nonetheless.

    If you put a locking nut then you will need some fine tuners at the bridge because some strings tend to go sharp when tightening the nut :). But not a bad idea !!!

    Jackson could dominate the 7 string market so easily but they are scared of being too heavy or edgy (Ironically)
    I'm a time of extremly heavy music becoming so popular and mainstream (bmth, lorna shore, spirit box) it's incredible that they don't capitalize on it

    • @pauln6803
      @pauln6803 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is they weighed up the figures and decided to not go in so heavily on an already crowded, but limited market.
      They were a bit late to the party on that.
      It's not so much of an issue when you're outsourcing to the big Asian factories as they already have the tooling and parts inventory.

      Jackson was late to the party with 7 string options and extended/multiscale.
      Ibanez, ESP and Schecter all piled on it in a much bigger way when baritone became a thing.
      There was also Agile who made quite an impact in the upper tiers of the budget class.
      Jackson is expanding into this category more so due to their newer artist endorsements and the resources Fender have clearly put into that programme.
      The brand WAS one of the original pioneers (alongside B.C. Rich - look where that is) when it came to wacky shapes and weird and wonderful options due to the custom shop.
      Then at some point around the sale to Fender the custom shop seemed to almost disappear, seemingly focusing on "custom options" instead of building anything the customer wanted.
      Not to mention the big hike in prices and waiting time for custom builds.

    The Josh Smith signature is so bad ass but almost 3k for something like that it overkill... I have never understood why Jackson tosses their price tags so high. even more so when companies like ESP/LTD are make that modern guitars for almost half to cost of Jackson... must be a name thing I guess !!

    I like the 1500 more than the original 🤷‍♀. The thing that annoys me with the new jacksons is the lack of stainless steel frets. Idc if nickel feels more 'original' or whatever; I am not spending $3000 CAD on a guitar with nickel frets! PS: the EMG HA neck pickup was in the eppiphone Robb Flynn signature, so it has in fact been in at least one other production model guitar.

      Even better would be a well cut nut.
      Y'know, like you'd expect on a stupid money guitar where the manufacturer says it's stupid money because of the level of craftsmanship and human labour involved(!)
      Seriously, there's too much string break angle all round on a classic Les Paul headstock and unless the nut slots are cut correctly there's going to be problems that no add on will fix.
      The TOM bridge isn't always a solid as it's cracked up to be either.
